OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/31: The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Submitted by AmaizeingBlue on May 31st, 2018 at 4:05 PM

So about yesterday... We had a pretty brutal night if I'm going to be honest. We ended up losing a lot of territories to RNG while also being spread a little thin in other areas. We are down to 16 territories total which is still second highest in the game. But we are almost in an identical position to where we were a week or two ago. Last night was a minor setback for a major comeback. The next few days will be focused on recuperating and preparing to expand once again. As the great Thomas Paine once said, "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

Also. Just a heads up guys. Please don't share order details in your comments. We don't want enemies reading the comments to get insight into our plans.

I'm sure that too many of our players are stuck at 2 stars, myself included. One way to make a comeback is to have every Michigan flair receive upvotes on sight. I know many have already been doing this, but there's always room for improvement.

I'd also like to reiterate what many have said re: Team Chaos. They don't seem to be pushing into Red territory too much, are they? If they're not going to serve their "chaotic" function, but rather predominantly organize against one alliance, they should be removed from the game. I think their addition was a cool idea in theory, but in practice, the mechanic is being used to tip the scales way too much. Once you're eliminated, you should be done. It's already clear enough that this game is going to go for a very, very long time--the last thing we need is yet an another team vying for territory, especially given its size and the fact that every single one of its members were already eliminated.

This last point raises the problem of flair switching--you could get rid of Team Chaos, but then what's to stop those people from joining another team anyway? To fix this, the game should have a "team declaration" mechanic, where you enter your flair/team on the attack/defend screen. Once declared, it cannot be changed for the duration of the game, regardless of any flair changes you make in r/CFB. Just a thought.

Finally, remember not to post in r/CFBRisk. That karma will not count towards your star count. Only karma earned in r/CFB will.

territories don't matter.. don't think of this like risk. You can only lose 1 territory deep per turn, so maintaining unattainable territories is priority.

last night was rough, but it's going to get worse if we don't get more help and luck.

What the hell is happening to the map? We have a numbers advantage, I think. And yet we're getting stomped back to the North East.

BTW, I'm Imacyco on reddit. If people can help me level up to 4 star that'd be great.

One of the CFB off-topic communities yesterday claimed UM hacked some other teams something or other.  I don't know what it is, I'm too old to understand BUT before you dismiss me I proudly rock my FOUR STAR RATING.

Anyway, I will definitely not reveal to anyone, ANYONE, even someone who spies on this group, that I was told to defend Mary Baldwin College or my delight over their Fightin' Squirrels mascot.
