I've earned my pessimism. I was at the 7 period epic against the Pens in 1996. The Caps outshot the Penguins 37-12 in the first three overtime periods. Nonetheless, the Penguins held on and won it in the 4th overtime period.
I don't get how Tampa hasn't scored anything - they've had some great opportunities. But they aren't getting rebounds and are just missing passes. Its the Red Wings luck the last several years of the streak.

This game may end 6-0. That being said, I’m not sure either the Caps or the Lightning could beat Vegas.
3 years, that's optimistic. We'll need draft lottery luck to be that fast, otherwise it'll take 3 years just to begin a true rebuild after finally getting out of the current bad deals. 5-6 years is likely the time where Wings become a contender again.

They can become a good team again in a very short amount of time. Play the youth, phase out the veterans. It doesn't take 6 years to do that.
The NHL is truly the only sport where if you get in, anyone can win. Baseball has a little bit of it, but the season does a good job of shaking out the lousy teams.
The problem with the Wings tho is the deals that Holland made is a ball of chain for the Wings. The amount that is held up on Vetrans will linger for 3 more years before able to do anything with this team. I agree turn around time in hockey can be fast, but Holland really screwed the Wings that it may not be fast with this team.
