Notre Dame says their UA deal is still worth more than Michigan's Nike deal

On a per annum basis, source with knowledge of the Notre Dame/Under Armour deal says it's still bigger than Michigan's new deal w/Nike.

— Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) July 15, 2015

Take it FWIW though, as Rovell is the same guy who incorrectly reported this morning that Michigan's Nike deal was worth $169mm over 11 years (it's actually $122mm over 11 years, plus $47mm over the optional 4-yr extension)

Apparently Notre Dame's UA deal included the right to take some of the cash in UA stock, and UA shares have doubled since Notre Dame signed with them, which supposedly puts the deal at substantially more than the reported $9mm/yr.

Well, they should put their money where their eucharist is and open their books up to the public, so we can see.

**disclaimer, I am catholic, this joke is approved.

I saw that too. It doesn't really matter too much because I am sure someone (probably Texas) will sign a bigger deal here sooner or later. The important thing is that Michigan got a great deal of money, and it satisfies the athletes/students/fans. This is just ND trying to be like "but, but, but....we are the highest paid" and grasping at straws. UA stock will soon hit a ceiling as there are only so many rednecks out there that NEED MOAR CAMO SHIRTS!!!!

Bingo. We know that UA offered us more than Nike did too, but we sold our souls in 2008 to go with a secondary equipment provider (Adidas). Not going down that road again. Notre Dame can go all Scrooge McDuck with their Under Armor cash for all I care. We've got Nike AND a shitload of money!

And our TV contract is worth a lot more. Their NBC contract is worth $15 million annually (begins in 2016 and runs through the 2025 season), meanwhile B1G schools are projected to make $45 mil annually in 2017.

The fact that we signed with Nike for an amount in the same neighborhood, tells you how much more Michigan is worth. Besides, even if it was a lot less, I would still go with Nike over Under Armour.

That tweet is a stupid response.  No way is saying UA is a threat to Nike next year.  UA barely existed when current high school seniors were born so Nike still being liked better isn't shocking.  But UA's growth has been pretty big and they are just entering the shoe market now and have Steph Curry to market it.  They also have Spieth signed to a 10 year contract in golf as well and a bunch of baseball players including Bryce Harper.  They've done a really good job of getting in on big young stars for marketing purposes and that will pay dividends.  Plus with Notre Dame, Auburn, South Carolina, Maryland, Northwestern, etc they have a pretty good toe hold in college athletics for being a still young company.

With reports that the Nike offer was lower than that of Adidis and UA it clear Hackett didn't care about having the largest deal in the country, but getting the right deal. Nike was the right deal and like Hackett, I'm not concerned if its the largest or not.
