Nick Bosa Out Indefinitely after Surgery

Submitted by Adrian on

This changes things. I wonder what the return has been for other players with a similar injury. Does he come back before the Game?

I think if he doesn’t transfer in the offseason, he feels he has a really good shot to win the job next year if Shea leaves. If he transfers and Shea leaves, then I think he feels he will have a better shot elsewhere. I hope he stays. Sky is the limit with him. I was re-reading his recruiting profile on here and how highly he was regarded by so many. He started off low rated and finished borderline five star. Dylan started as a near five star and finished in the 200s. Something’s just gotta click for Brandon.

From the profile on peters, thought this was interesting considering Shea was also in attendance:  “Trent Dilfer described him as a "freak" at the Elite 11 finals and the "best overall athlete" in a competition featuring the top pro style guys in the country and a few borderline dual threat types. Helmholdt thinks Luck is a good comp in this category.”

They also had a comparison between him and Shea which was probably the difference in the battle this offseason: “

There was one criticism that might carry over to college. 247 thought he was "a tier below" Ole Miss commit Shea Patterson because he lacked "urgency" but thought he "delivered a beautiful football" all the same. They did clarify what they meant with that critique:

needed to find some urgency within his drop. … When two quarterbacks would go through their drops side by side Peters was always a step or two slower than his counterpart. …From the top of his drop to the completion, Peters is as good as anyone here. He spins it consistently, he's got outstanding accuracy and his receiver always has a chance.”

Don't think it matters to ask the question - given OSU's blatant and unrepentant luck, of course he'll be back to100% 1-2 weeks before Michigan comes to town.  It's on Michigan to make its own luck for this game, because nothing the star alignment will cause ever ends up being against OSU.

Ugh...  Fuck OSU.

Being back in 4-6 following suspected hernia surgery doesn't mean he'll be at the same level. Far from it, in fact. He probably won't be able to lift anything for a couple weeks.

The only way I see him sitting out is if OSU is not playing for a title. If they drop to an NY6 bowl or worse, then maybe.

If they're in the playoff, or fighting for a chance to get into the playoff, there's no way he'd sit if he had the opportunity to play. Let's put it this way: if I'm an NFL exec, I'd understand a top-rated player not wanting to play in the Outback Bowl. But sitting out a chance to play for a national title? That would raise some concerns with me about how committed to the game he really is, or if he's just looking for a big payday and not much else.

I fully anticipate him to be back by the Michigan game, but save for the Penn State game, I don't think this will affect their defense all that much. At least not to a point where it would really matter.

Will be interesting to see, though, how that affects their matchup against Penn State. They've got an amazing DL even without Bosa, but if him being out gives McSorely even a half second longer to survey the field and throw, that could be the difference between a win and a loss. I know OSU has a stupid amount of talent on the DL, but whoever is backing Nick Bosa up is not as good as Nick Bosa. The kid is being talked about as the top overall pick.

I remember early in the Hoke-era how we were getting so excited to see our highly touted O-Lineman classes compete against OSU's highly touted D-Line classes in the future....Good days.

Probably a sports hernia (not inguinal).  It's a tear in the abdominal muscle close to where it connects to the pelvis.  I had one before, they put mesh in and I was good 4 weeks later.

If Bosa is truly out for the next 6-8 weeks, the smart move on his end would be to just call it a career at OSU.

No need risking another injury before you are about to be a sure shot top 5 pick.

I would have liked to see him at full strength when we play them. If victorious, it will be nice to have said we beat them at their best.

That said, I agree with some of the posters here that it's 'next man up' on a different level at OSU and Alabama. They are the only 2 teams that can truly absorb the injury bug.

To everyone else, this would be a disaster.

I don't think Bosa's injury causes OSU to now lose a bunch of games. They may miss a minor play or two that Bosa may have made.
