New 2022 Football Schedules Trickling Out
I have yet to see a complete revised 2022 schedule for Michigan, but according to PSU's 247 board their game against us has been moved back one week from Oct 8 to Oct 15.

Yep - need to get that bye week in first.
January 11th, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
Of course Penn State gets a bye week before us.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
I mean somebody always will. Hopefully State doesn't get another one before their Super Bowl vs us.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
Can’t you theoretically have a schedule where you never play a team coming off bye?
January 11th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
That’s possible but likely not going to happen. However, it should be easy to make the schedule so that in all cases, both teams about to play each other have the bye the same week.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:31 PM ^
I looked it up. Guess who didn't play a single team coming off bye this year?
OSU lmao
January 11th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
You can also have one where you are only playing teams after they came off a bye.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
I know someone always will - but it seems like it's Penn State, MSU, etc. Why aren't we the opponent after Maryland and Rutgers byes? Maybe we are, and maybe I am just yelling at clouds, but it seems like the upper half of the division frequently gets a bye before us.
This is just my perception based mainly off of MSU and this.
January 11th, 2022 at 4:46 PM ^
We talk about Sparty's "Super Bowl" like it is somehow funny or misguided. I don't get that. They prioritize an in-state rivalry over everything else, and I don't understand the "dig."
January 11th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Is there any evidence that a team has an advantage coming off a bye week?
January 11th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
We're overdue for a thread about playing at Michigan State two years in a row.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
On the road no less!
January 11th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Goddam that Dave Brandon!!!
January 11th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
I will point out, that "fixing" our schedule likely cost us a trip to the National Championship.
I think we beat MSU if that game is at home, and are a #1 seed playing Cincinnati in the CFP semi if we are undefeated.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
If we end up #1, Georgia would’ve been 4
January 11th, 2022 at 1:31 PM ^
I agree, but the CFP committee was adamant that wasn't true that they would try to avoid a rematch.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Impossible to extrapolate anything like that. Harbaugh is 1-3 against msu at home and was undefeated in East Lansing, so past results seem to disagree. Further, it’s impossible to say all other games would’ve worked out how they did. Lastly and most importantly I still don’t think they would’ve put us at 1. Three score win over Georgia would’ve been enough to move bama up even with the one loss. They were never going to schedule that rematch in the semifinals
January 11th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
So Michigan should have had three straight home games vs. MSU?
You seem to think it was a conspiracy or something based on quotation marks.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
No, we would have played the Covid year in East Lansing as planned.
I said "fix" because it's an opinion that people have had because it is evening out our home schedule each year to keep season ticket owners interested.
If our goal is to win a national championship, and we think we need all the stars to align in a year for it to happen, then it helps to have two stars guaranteed to be aligned every other year.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
So the refs wouldn't have fucked us based on home field? LOL
January 11th, 2022 at 2:59 PM ^
I don't think we beat both PSU and OSU if we beat MSU - we got pissed off after that loss and played much better
January 11th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
This is a good point and I agree. It's impossible to know the counterfactual, of course, but I do believe that game would have been a win if it were at home. And I think the CFP committee would have no choice to put undefeated Michgan #1 over the two 1-loss teams from the SEC.
I think Brandon was pretty cynical when he allowed the Big Ten to switch the home games vs MSU to odd years, thinking Michigan would have a better chance to go undefeated and get to the Big Ten Championship/BCS Championship game if both MSU and OSU were at home. Essentially punting on even years in exchange for a better chance at a special season in the odd years. I can't prove it was his thought process, but it always made sense to me.

JoePa is happy - he did that (open week before UM game) four years in a row under B1G stopped having bye weeks as a rule in the late 1990s.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
Harbaugh is a big cheese now. We should get a bye week before Ohio State.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
We did get Maryland this year while OSU got MSU...
January 11th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^
Ended up looking like a toss-up in terms of challenge.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
Michigan might be switching Western Division opponents too. PSU was supposed to play Illinois in 2022 but that is off now, it has been replaced by Northwestern.
Overall, kind of interesting. Illinois was supposed to be the one Western Division opponent PSU played annually from 2022 to 2027 (similar to how PSU/Iowa and U-M/Wisky were annual from 2016 to 2021). Doesn't seem to be anymore.
-----
(Edited to add: PSU has within the past hour removed this new 2022 schedule from their athletics website. I'm still assuming the schedule is real: they probably simply jumped the gun on a conference-wide announcement coming soon.)
January 11th, 2022 at 1:17 PM ^
I will riot if they don’t give us our west cupcakes we’ve earned
January 11th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Yes let’s switch out Iowa for Northwestern too
January 11th, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
I am planning on driving to Iowa next fall for the game, sure hope this road trip is not canceled
January 11th, 2022 at 1:28 PM ^
That one I don't understand. Wasn't Illinois the B1G West team that PSU was supposed to be paired with for the next 6 years? Is the Big Ten ditching their scheduling format for cross-divisional games?
January 11th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Question 1, the answer is yes. Question 2, it appears it might be. It's definitely interesting.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
Of course after we just finished up our 6 year run of playing Wisconsin, they switch this up.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
That’s interesting. I wouldn’t mind losing Nebraska or Iowa as our cross-over game for next year. Iowa is supposed to be @ Kinnick (pass on that), and next year is going to be the year that Scott Frost either gets canned or turns things around. Either way, I’d rather watch that happen from a distance.
Regardless of who we lose, I think the most likely add is Purdue. We were supposed play them in AA in 2020 but didn’t because of COVID. We’ve only played them once since 2012 and haven’t played them in AA since 2011. Makes me think we lose the home game vs Nebraska (our protected cross-over) and add a home game vs Purdue.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Yes - I can definitely see Purdue @ Michigan being added.
Northwestern (PSU's likely new Western Division foe in 2022) is the western division team PSU both (1) hasn't played in the longest amount of time at ANY site (2017), and (2) hasn't played at home in the longest amount of time (2014).
Purdue fits that same bill for Michigan.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
I am just looking forward to a year where we didn't play Wisconsin. I love that I get to let the taste of going into their house and taking their mojo linger on tongue. I'm not sure I love the idea of playing Nebraska for the next 5 years -- I can easily imagine Frost getting his house in order and winning 2 of those. Still, anyone in from the West is likely going to be an easier row to hoe than those stinking Badgers.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
I just hope the Iowa game stays where it's at! It works out perfectly for a family road trip.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Bpone just changed the date. Sorry.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
How is this possible when we are scheduled to play Nebraska in Ann Arbor on October 15?
January 11th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Doubleheader?
January 11th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
The Big Ten is completely reworking the 2022 schedules to take into account some 2020 COVID changes that will be permanent moving forward. Looks like all big ten teams have taken the 2022 schedules off their websites indicating we might get some announcements soon.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
My magic 8 ball says atleast one of the 3 teams will be in covid protocol. Scheduling 3 teams to play in the same city sets up the best chance atleast 2 can play.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
According to SI, the Indiana game will remain on November 12, but it will be in Bloomington instead of Ann Arbor (which we already knew).
So far:
Sep 3: Colorado St - W
Sep 10: Hawaii - W
Sep 17: UConn - W
Sep 24:
Oct 1:
Oct 8:
Oct 15: Penn St - W
Oct: 22:
Oct 29:
Nov 5:
Nov 12: @ Indiana - W
Nov 19:
Nov 26: @ Ohio St - Battle to the Death
January 11th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
Can I just stop to mention how insane the OSU schedule is? I mean, they might as well play high school teams at that point.
Love how they get a cakewalk schedule almost every year.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Their crossovers include Iowa and Wisconsin unless things change. They also schedule ND. They can't play themselves.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
Notre Dame isn’t very intimidating, especially when the game is in Columbus. Iowa and Wisconsin are in Columbus. Only tough games on the road are Penn State and Sparty.
Seems like they generally draw favorable schedules a lot.
January 11th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Our only tough games on the road are @Iowa and @OSU and we have the easiest non conference schedule in decades. I love bitching about other teams like the rest of you but this in NOT the year to complain about our rivals' schedules.
January 11th, 2022 at 4:40 PM ^
They're playing the two toughest teams in the West, all of the East, and Notre Dame. Do you expect them to play the top of the SEC every game?
January 11th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
The B1G had one job: fix the issues caused by the last minute 2020 schedule. Instead, they've put the 2022 schedule in a blender when there was no need to do so. Never underestimate the B1G's ability to ***k things up.
