Michigan's Muad'Dib

Submitted by michiganfanforlife on

I have a tendancy to relate almost anything to movies. I have always loved movies and I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to them. For some reason my mind is on a certain movie this morning. I'd love to hear what movie/scene you would compare this moment in time as a Michigan fan to in your replies.

On the desert planet, a once powerful and proud group of humans find the leader they need to overcome their oppressors. Much like Harbaugh, his name becomes a verb. His name holds power and meanining beyond just the collections of letters. His teachings make these people rise up and fight like they never could before. No matter the result for the rest of the year, I couldn't be any more excited about the future of Michigan Football. Go Blue!

In the movie he was played by Kyle MacLachlan, what did you expect?

The Scifi channel adaptation was closer to the books, but had some...........thrifty production values.

Still I liked it better than the movie and while it wasn't quite the book, I thought they did about as well as they could with it.  I've seen that documentary about Jodorowsky's Dune and while I appreciated the vision behind it, I'm not convinced he would have done much better.

I would say this is more a book reference than a movie reference as the book is fantastic and the movie is terrible. Other than that though love the comparison!

Hmmmm, interesting comparison. As a huge, huge fan of the Dune series, however, I think I need to remind the OP that Paul Atreides and his Jihad eventually killed 60 billion people in the known universe. Let's certainly hope Harbaugh doesn't go that route, m'kay? :-D

Reminds me of "Patton". Specifically when he rushes to relieve the beleaguered 101st in the Belgian town of Bastogne.

It sort of fits in that respect in that Frank Herbert - so I recall - derived the name from the Arabic word for "educator". I could be wrong, but I think that fact came out in some behind-the-scenes thing done for the movie actually.

It makes sense though, in this regard - you can see that the education has been well-received and is already being applied to opponents on a weekly basis.

But like a BYU victory the movie is totally redeemed at the last possible minute by the appearance of Alicia Witt as Alia Atriedes.

I generally try to convert real life to Game of Thrones.  With Harbaugh, I'm finding it difficult connect a comparative character.  John Snow (or whatever he'll become) is (was?) a bastard.  Ned Stark is dead.  Rob Stark was too young. And dead.  Tyrion Lannister is a dwarf. And a Lannister.  Bronn is a sellsword.  And so on.

I defy you to find another forum based on college sports that can have a literary discussion like this.  You can't.  It's nowhere but here.

I love this place!
