Michigan's Bowl Game - Who is going?

Submitted by UMProud on December 2nd, 2019 at 5:50 AM

Who is planning a trip to Michigan's bowl game?   I'm thinking about taking the family on vacation and centering it around our Bowl game.

First time doing this...any experienced Bowlers have planning tips?  I'm a AAA member not sure if they would be a good resource for this?  Figuring 2-3k budget round trip sound right for 3 people?

I think everyone is, what’s the word... WAITING, to see where the bowl game is.

I personally hope it’s in Florida, as I live down here, but understand that San Diego, or somewhere out west, is the preferable destination for others.

One thing I do know... there will be great seats to see MSU in the Pizza Pizza bowl.

I honestly hope JH allows the players to enjoy the experience in the sun.  Take them jetskiing, let them do things they cannot in Ann Arbor.  They have certainly earned a break from what must have seemed like the most intense and stressful part of deciding to be a Michigan football player.  It seemed like JH ratcheted up the intensity to get to 11 wins a few years (2016 and 2018), however the team came out pretty flat (and injured themselves - poor Jake Butt).  idk.  we are all tired of hot takes yet we do not live the reality like the players.  While I am sure you cannot turn off JH's spirit it might be nice to enjoy the trip.

San Diego is a ton of fun, minus the street crowd. I took a wrong exit once and before I could get back on the expressway I got stuck in traffic and my car was used as the obstacle between two homeless guys- one with a baseball bat, the other with a bowie knife.

Other than that, Coronado is cool, the midway museum, lots of crazy good food and bars in the gaslamp district, downtown is nice. Tide pools, nice beaches up by LaJolla, take a drive through the hills to the Julian pie company...

I won't attend any until we beat osu or the players start receiving a cut of the money made off the bowls (and I'm not talking about a bag of swag with $500 of junk in it like fossil watches and beats headphones), whichever comes first.

Well, we aren’t going to beat OSU until we can start paying players like they do, so I guess, bring on the NIL rights!

I am done with college football until it gets fixed and if it takes too long, they just might lose me all together. Watching kids/men bash each others brains in just isn’t entertaining to me anymore.

OP: I can't speak to the likelihood of AAA adding value here, but -- at the risk of stating the obvious -- you should be able to generate an estimate pretty quickly online (flights, lodging within a certain radius, rental car).

Flexible travel dates (at least, ones surrounding the game) and a willingness to do some driving on game day will be your friends.

I went to the Rose Bowl the last time Michigan was in it against USC.  Both sons were UMich students at the time.  We stayed in SoCal for the week and drove down to Pasadena very early New Years day.  The parade was amazing; so was the game in the first half.  The second half USC did a number on us.

Without knowing who and when we play, it is hard to put a price tag on things. I travel a lot and hotels and food in big cities has gotten a lot pricier over the last few years. I've been to a few bowl games and, depending on how long you stay, you need to find things to do beyond just the game if you are with your family and if your family includes kids.

Since I live in San Diego, and if Michigan makes the holiday bowl, I’ll be there. I don’t want usc since it’s my wife’s alma mater. Don’t want to hear Shit from the in-laws.

I've been to two Michigan bowl games in the past 10 years (Sugar Bowl and last year's Peach). I drove to both with one or more children in tow. The Sugar  Bowl was a blast--Peach sucked.  New Orleans is hard to beat as a place to visit, but the game as well. I just want to see a competitive game, especially if it's a loss. But, aside from the game outcome,  which you have no control over, take several days to enjoy sights etc beyond the game. Plan some side trips to make it a memorable vacation.

Edit: depending on the location,  the point someone made above about having a car allows you to get outside the city. We always tried with our children to do something at least somewhat educational.

I'd like to see Michigan play in the Holiday Bowl.  Saw them years ago, in '94 vs Colorado State while I was the the Marine Corps.  I love San Diego, beautiful place.  They usually have Navy SEALS parachute into the stadium with the game ball but when I was there, one of the SEALS had a hard landing and broke his back.  They cancelled some of the pre-game festivities cause it took a while for them to properly care for the him.

In fact, I miss SoCal so much, I plan on moving to the Palm Springs/La Quinta area after my daughter graduates from college in a couple of years.

Hoping for Rose Bowl-lite: Holiday Bowl in San Diego (beautiful town) against USC.

It will be more interesting than the actual Rose Bowl.

You may want to consider that some/a few of the players may not want to play so that they can avoid injury prior to the NFL draft.

Some of the starting underclassmen may have that thought in their mind too.

This reason alone makes me think twice about going to a bowl game.

I am not going to the bowl but I am actually pretty excited about this years game because I think the team is really heading in a great direction on offense. I want to see that continue and I am especially hyped that soo many of the younger players played a roll in the breakthrough. I am almost hoping some of the older guys that are not coming back sit so we can get a better look at the 2020 squad.

I live in L.A. and plan on taking the fam if it's the Holiday bowl. Anyone know when it'll be announced? I found 4 really good tickets for $500. Those will almost certainly double/triple as soon as UM vs USC is announced. I'm so tempted to buy them now...
