MGOBLOG Banner

Submitted by BlueLotCrew on

I am hereby recommending a change in the MGoBanner at the top of this page to reflect the success of the Men's Basketball Program and I present this proposal based on the following...

1) Hoke Springs Eternal was perfect for last year, as he was hired in January and the Spring marked the period that he galvanized the fan base as well as started building his program.  As long as we all agree that Hoke (or hope) springs eternal, there is no need for it to spring further since eternity is forever.

2) The football program went through a 4 year period of turbulence (starting with "The Horror" and ending with Josh Groban), followed by a return to glory in 2011.  We are simply past the whole "New Hope" thing.

3) John Beilein has just done 3 amazing things tonight... A) Kept UM in contention for a B16 title. B) Snapped a 13 game, 17 year losing streak at Illinois. C) Ended Bruce Webber's career.

4) Football season is many months away, let's celebrate some Hoops and pay tribute with a new banner.  The resurrection of this program under Beilein deserves a banner... at least... if not a medal.

Please support this petition and call upon fellow MGoArtists to come up with the next graphic to celebrate Michigan Athletics.

On the left, a picture of Novak's bloody face. On the right, the picture of him sans legs. The caption, "No pain, no gain. Novak, no legs."

I think it is a great idea and I support it wholeheartedly!! No suggestions on the design, I trust the hilarious, creative and dedicated minds we've all become accustomed to interacting with here on this phenomenal thing called MGOBLOG....Cheers!

I get it that MGoBlog is more of a football blog than anything else, but the basketball team has an opportunity to make a big run. At least changing the banner for the tourament run will show the community's support for basketball.

Like the design of the student T for 2011? But instead make it say "GO BLUE MGOBLOG SUPPORTS YOU" huh! Not too sacrilegious I hope. Just an idea.

There are legal issues to consider.  The redesign of the blogs banner has been an ongoing topic for a couple of years now and it's proven to be trickier than you think to come up with a aesthetically pleasing, topical banner that doesn't infringe on the University's copyright.  That's why you don't see Block M's or pictures of players or unobscured images of winged helmets.

But my point total doesn't allow for it....

If I could, I would foresake sports and throw my support behind Kate Upton and Her MGOBEWBS....

"Clint Eastwood Fightin' John Waynes" in frustration at the football team following the MSU or Iowa loss, so it's sort of derogatory. So why is it still there? I'm surprised with all the success we've had since then -- Beat Ohio, BCS, recruiting, MBB -- that annoying little line of text hasn't been updated to something more positive. Brian puts out so many great one-liners ... that little "blog sub-title" text is ideal for a "thought of the week" and yet he hasn't touched it in months.

I am not a photoshop genius, but if someone wants to make a bball-themed banner that doesn't suck I'll probably put it up. "Doesn't suck" is entirely up to me.

What a disgrace...How can the poster hate on the hockey team here ? The sport itself embodies hard work, determination, and grit that is seen in all michigan athletes. Hunwick who is a 5th year senior walk on turned starting goalie for one of the most dominant college hockey programs ever. That story alone should be a reason to like the hockey program, let alone what is considered the greatest college hockey program, the NCAA record 9 NC's, 21 consecutive tourney appearances,2 Hobey Baker winners, and 2nd most NHL draft picks. Oh wait, nobody cares about hockey right ? The Big Chill set a record attendance of 113,411 people....but nobody in Michigan cares, right ?

I would propose a Stu/Novak/Person wallpaper to showcase the seniors and below MGoblog have some slog about "True Grit" or "The Grittiest blog to ever grit grit"

If things go accordingly, some sort of banner (within the banner!) or SOMETHING regarding a Big Ten Title would need to be incorporated.

It's tough not to go all Stu/Novak/Grit while putting a new banner together, but I like the concept of what is there now.  It's not a face or face of someone or something glaring, but you know it's Hoke (even without "Hoke Springs..") and you know it's all about Michigan Football.  It's subtle, but you sure as hell know what's going on there when you look at it.  Not that there's anything wrong with putting a collage of faces of our Seniors/Beilein who brought this program back, but subtlety/simplicity goes a long way and helps keep it classy.

Just my opinion; which again, doesn't mean much!

Denard's smile (across the entire banner) with 'MGOBLOG' superimposed, written in the old Michigan Stadium lettering?

This is a classic example of an OP with a good (great?) idea that discredits himself by alienating almost everyone that responds in the thread.  Its too bad - the good idea now feels dirty.

How about:

Small Hockey(Sorry I don't watch it that often but I bet there are great after goal shots) on the left

Big Football(Denard Eating Soup Maybe)in the middle

Small Basketball (Novak bleeding) on the right.

I am sure there are some talented computer designers on here that could throw it together (Sadly I am not).
