Mark Hollis wakes up in puddle of vomit and regrets bad decision he made
Wishes he tweeted message to all student athletes.
Lets all laugh at Sparty some more.

tweet Roundtree made.
There, with that behind me, I can laugh because, well, I can laugh. Once again, sparty is pre-occupied with Michigan, and proves it on the national stage.

Stepping back, I find it weird and obsessive that Hollis even follows Michigan athletes to begin with. It has never even occurred to me to follow MSU athletes. Stories like this and the Dantonio/Hecklinski thing (or Cousins' comments about Michigan watching from its couch... or Dantonio calling Mike Hart short... and on and on) are fun reminders of how deeply and permanently preoccupied that university is with Michigan.

Better yet, how can the AD EVER reprimand one of the MSU athletes for indiscretions on Twitter after this fiasco? Hollis -> stick out foot, pull trigger, shoot self in foot.
He doesn't have to worry about that as reprimanding players isn't protocol in spartyland.

thread title!
If he were a Spinal Tap fan, could've been a pool of somone else's vomit.

This whole thing also begs the question, how much time does this guy have on his hands? I would have thought that being the AD of a large B1G school would mean that you are pretty damn busy. And why would this guy be subscribed to Trey's Twitter in the first place. The whole thing is just CREEPY.

... we get a parody twitter account out of this:
@MSUADvice

I was checking out who Hollis follows on Twitter. Why the hell is he following Chelsea Handler and Lady Gaga?
Also he's following the Rose Bowl, as if he's ever going to need any information from them.
And his description reads: Michigan State University, Director of Athletics, East Lansing, Spartans, Final Four, Bowl, BTN, B1G, ESPN, CBS, NCAA
It's like he just got to the end and started listing stuff that he knows are things. The correct description should be "Director of Athletics at Michigan State University." That's it. I'm in college and I'm not a super classy guy, but I know how to be more professional.
Alright, that's my Sparty talk quota for a while. I'm going back to not caring.

This made me laugh...given that we are talking anchorman 2, it reminds me a little of Brink. Just randomly listing off things he sees.

"I was checking out who Hollis follows on Twitter. Why the hell is he following Chelsea Handler and Lady Gaga?"
The only thing I can come up with is Hollis has a bucket list and "bang a celebrity" is on it. Those two would seem to be fairly accessable targets.

Does anything good ever come from Twitter? It seems like the entry of Twitter into human society has been the equivalent of putting a loaded pistol into the gorilla exhibit at a zoo - the gorillas don't really understand how it works or what it is, but they still might manage to shoot themselves with it.

This all depends on how you value the entertainment level of (metaphorical!) gorillas shooting themselves.
Please note: I don't find apes shooting themselves funny. On the other hand I do think that metaphorical apes, especially when said metaphorical apes are the leading representative of all sports for our 2nd biggest rival, should be given an entire arsenal and penned off in a viewing room with the feed broadcast on BTN.
March 29th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
I have to admit it.
March 29th, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
Till the apes stop shooting each other, and then start shooting at you.
Next thing you know...

Is that video for real? Either way, its hilarious!

things like the Occupy movement, or the Arab Spring were aided by twitter. Also, flashmobs, everyone loves a good flashmob, organized by twitter. Also, Barcrawls sometimes post the next bar to go to via twitter, which is an excellent use of the app on your phone.

With regard to Iran, Twitter's role appears to have been vastly overstated by Western journalists. (LINK)
Also, I imagine its propensity to spread rumors quickly would be a double-edged sword for Occupy or any other social protest movements.

I really have no input, but the title made me think of this.

It's as if this man has made it his personal mission to reinforce every Sparty stereotype in the book.

The best part of that article:
Brandon later said the same thing in an email to the AP, adding that he believes Hollis “realizes that now[... after having his tonsils removed without the aid of anesthesia and receiving 40 lashes.]"
*I may have taken some liberties with that quote.

His tweet was wrong on three fronts:
1) You ought not publicly offer advice to a player at a rival school.
2) When you publicly offer advice to a student at a rival program, you ought to at least use proper grammar.
3) You ought not send unsolicited advice about not taking unsolicited advice.
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.
Yeah, I think his heart was in the right place with this (in the sense he wasn't trying to convince Burke to leave or anything), but it was just so dumb and lacking in foresight that it is hard to not question his general competency. Yeah, people say dumb things all the time, but as an AD for a major school, why would you even be following a kid's twitter account at a rival school, and if you were just told about it, why respond? Nobody was waiting with baited breath for Mark Hollis to chime in on Trey Burke going pro.
...that he didn't deny it to Brandon or the press, saying, "Someone hacked my twitter account."
Everyone recognized his writing style.
...to be disciplined for posting an abusive or inappropriate comment on Twitter, and then observe the questions to be then posed by the press to Mark Hollis.
No, wait that's not right.
I'm still waiting for the first Spartan to be disciplined.
I think someone needs to remind Hollis of the following words of wisdom:
'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
