thats often the case - huge difference bw playing to win and playing not to lose, obviously.

i do feel bad for kickers in those situations though.  even if they stretch on the side for long stretches of practice and maybe not take conditioning as seriously, and even though they may only have 1 job, its still a tough gig.  by nature, youre either the hero or the scapegoat.  i didnt know our kickers all that well but its obviously extremely difficult to face teammates in the locker room after missing a kick

The following is taken directly from the Illinois Loyalty blog:

Congrats to Lovie Smith becoming 1st Illinois non-interim head coach in inaugural season to win a B1G game since Lou Tepper (1992)

It doesn't get any better than that, does it?

Clemson probably wins this game in OT now, but whoever in fact wins, they will have more or less won that completely by accident.

Meanwhile, over on BTN, Lewerke just found out that Northwestern is not terribly good at defending the edge. Still.

O'Connor and Terry are known quantities. The biggest advantage about Lewerke is that there's no real scouting reports on him.

Now that State's playing him we're going to have two games worth of scouting on him. Plus, he'll be playing two very medicore teams, so the jump up in competition from Northwestern/Maryland to our D will be drastic.

I love how Dantonio did this honesly. Start Lewerke late enough that MSU's season is already shot, but early enough to give us plenty of film to look at. Thanks Mork.

Lewerke TD pass to Josiah Price and MSU leads 7-0.

Cue MSU fans talking about Lewerke being the savior and how MSU will crush us with him now.
