Jake Butt named B1G TE of the Year; Butt & Chesson(!) First Team All-B1G

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Didn't bother making it a show thread because no one here wants to be forced to watch this tone-deaf conference's awful show that no one watches unless there are things like these being announced.

Jake Butt is named B1G Tight End of the Year and is a consensus First Team All-B1G pick.

Jehu Chesson named First Team All-B1G by the coaches.

The really surprising news to me is Chesson. Thankfully he got it.

But I don't get all the hate here for the B1G Network (in fairness, I don't get the network, but still it seems weird).  In particular, I saw a lot of bitchin' and whinin' yesterday that the offensive awards were to be announced a day after the defensive awards.  In my mind, it's fine that they split it up.  Gives us a new topic to jabber about during the pre-bowl announcement lull.

Agreed, though, that it's nice to see Chesson get this love.  He deserves it, and has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season.  (I thought he'd be good, but not a game-changer.  He's on the cusp of being just that.)  Butt is no surprise, but glad to see he got the recognition too.

Four First Team All-B1G selections is the most by a Michigan team since 2007.

That team played in the Citrus Bowl against Florida, which is most likely what this one will do, as well.

and I think platitudes should be tossed his way for his willingness to keep his plan intact but do the necessary tweaking required to move them from an also ran into a legit contender. Don't know if he has the necessary recruiting classes, especially at the all important qb position to keep it moving, but he has done a great job. They will always have a good rushing attack because that is what they teach and their RB coach has been great at maximizing talent, not unlike a poor's man version of WI at their peak.  No need to mimimize the success of others or insult same. Recognize him for a job well done and move on.

My thought too - I was looking over Big 10 WR stats and some guy from Wisc (sorry i dont keep up with Wisc this year since we dont play them) and he were the 2 I thought would have a chance.  Dude is tough as hell - I thought MSU knocked him out of the game a few times but he kept coming back even as Armstrong hung him out to dry repeatedly.
