Interesting Backstory from Sam & Devin on Jadyn vs. Air at the Elite 11 Atlanta Regional
Nice that he’s saying that but it does appear that JD is slipping in the rankings and how he’s viewed (didn’t finish in the top 11 at the Elite 11) and observers are saying there’s something in his mechanics and he’ll fall in the rankings. While not gospel, I’m hoping he’s closer to JJ than Shea.
I honestly could not care if he falls in the rankings. We know based on his scouting report and tape what we are getting: not prototypical size or frame, not elite arm strength, but someone who excels at running an offense, improvisation, and ball placement. Davis got to where he is in the rankings despite his physical profile, which rankings and scouts care maybe too much about. We saw at the Elite 11 how Davis struggled a bit the first few days against physically bigger guys in drills (in shorts with no defenders) that didn't really play to his strengths then in the 7 on 7 portion had a top 3 performance and was arguably #1 or #2 in that portion of the camp, where a lot of other guys who performed better than him the first few days really struggled. Guys like DJ Lagway and Julian Sayin performed far worse than Davis in 7 on 7. If they want to drop him in the rankings for not looking as good throwing in shorts against air, then so be it
Um, he finished 5th...
Which is usually IN the top eleven.
It was a left-handed eleven.
So basically finishing in the top 5 is the same thing as finishing in the top 11
Which according to Reese Bobby isn't that bad a deal.
"Ricky, I was high when I said that! You can be second, third, fourth, I mean hell....you could even be fifth!
None of this is true. Slipping slightly, but he finished top 11
Are you serious? Where did you read he is slipping, he finished in the top 11. But that's your hot take so be it.
This On3 article had them ranked out and he wasn’t in the top 11. I didn’t realize they had different rankings. My bad.
On3 has never been much of a fan of him, but everywhere else I've seen says he finished around the middle overall. I don't think combine style settings is a good spot for him because he's not a physically dominant guy with size and power.
He's accurate, smart, and can improv. Those things don't show well when you're just playing catch pretty much.
They also ranked the QBs after everyday. But each site or different analyst rank each QB different. On3 for some reason doesn't like or isn't high on JD for some reason. Other sites or people are. Some like Davis more then others but to me there are certain analyst who rank Bama or OSU or even Georgias QBs higher no matter what.
Joe Burrows did not make the elite 11
It was his tiny hands. He didn't play much at Ohio State, and then I don't remember what happened after that, but probably not much.
Considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts.

On3 - what a spiteful loser. Should be enough to kill that site where personal whining is driving reporting.
He finished in the official Elite 11, but I think some of your concern is justified for a different reason. My bigger concern for Michigan is QB recruiting in general. Even if Davis killed it at the Elite 11, it's a dangerous game to put all your eggs in one basket at the QB position. We did not take a QB in the 2023 class and have 3-star Jayden Denegal in 2022 class who is probably behind Davis Warren on depth chart.
I think it is going to be essential for Michigan to get another elite QB like Bryce Underwood in the 2025 class. If Michigan were to miss out on both Bryce Underwood and Dante Moore in their backyard, it would be a huge loss especially if Michigan were to develop a void at the QB position.
I think Michigan realizes that. They have made Underwood their priority but they've thrown out some offers to other prospects. Matt Weiss recruiting only one QB in 2023 and not being a good recruiter wasn't a smart move.
Kirk Campbell seems like a massive improvement in that department and is recruiting Underwood very hard
Part of the issue IMO was ever having Weiss as a QB coach in the first place. He didn't get canned for poor job performance (recruiting is a key part of the job). UM basically got lucky when he broke the law and had to go....and they had, what definitely seems to be, a better candidate already on the staff.
I think JJ's going to crush it this year. And his player development will help QB recruiting.
Kinda selling Davis Warren a little short here. Yea, he was a walk-on, but if it wasn't for leukemia and covid canceling his senior year, I believe its been said he'd probably been a 4 star recruit. The kid has some skill and I'm hoping he gets some meaningful snaps in the early games this season. If JJ goes to the league after this season, I'm betting on Warren to be QB1, not Jadyn Davis.
What I would like to see in '24 (well, 1st of all that JJ stays) - but barring that, Davis & Davis share snaps somewhat like Cade & JJ did.
That's how you maximize the QB room. And don't forget there's an Orgi in there too!
Davis Warren is your likely and very good starter after JJ goes pro. I just don’t see Orgi being the guy.
Orji hasn’t displayed the arm for me to consider him a true QB at this point.
Yes sir. Warren is a guy who could take over next year and we may not miss a beat. I’m rooting for this kid big time. I don’t believe anyone deserves it more given the shit he’s dealt with.
Two words: TRANSFER PORTAL
"We did not take a QB in the 2023 class ..."
Strictly speaking that's not true. I understand that there's a good chance that Kendrick Bell switches positions, but he played QB well in HS (high completion percentage at least).
This definitely seems like the old school way of thinking. Yes of course high school QB recruiting is important and getting Bryce Underwood or another top target in 2025 would be a smart thing to do. But the portal has changed things. If Michigan has a “void” at QB, you better believe we are getting a top transfer.
I have to disagree with your post on a few things.
1) Eggs in one basket due to not taking a qb in 2023 class. The previous class we took 2, Orji and Denagal. We also took Tuttle as a transfer in with a couple years eligibility and have Davis Warren on the roster.
2) We didn't land the top guys on the board and passed on others for 2023, that means don't take a reach if the top guys went elsewhere.
3) JJ, might be here for 2024, there is no given that he leaves for the nfl after this season. Even if he does, I put the battle for qb1 between Warren, Orji and Tuttle or another transfer. Which Imo we are just fine. The QB room is far better today than it was at anypoint prior to 2022!
If next year is a semi-rebuild, which I think it might be, then it might be okay to throw Davis right into it. Sounds like he has the mental strength to handle it.
The "something" in his mechanics is pretty clear if you watch the Elite 11 tape, he has developed a bit of a wind up. He's dropping the ball down to his waist or thigh then bringing it up to release it which is causing him to be late on timing throws.
It's not like his entire throwing motion has changed and this is something he can tighten up, hopefully in high school but if not Michigan will "fix" it.
The biggest thing was mentioned, dropping his arm and bringing the ball down. That is an easy fix but will take 1000's of reps to break. The biggest thing is breaking them when he comes to fall camp.
The funny thing is making an issue out of something that many qb's do as most all have some fundamentals to fix. Davis, his best attribute is accuracy on the move, seeing the field on the move and throw accurately against coverage off platform. Something many cannot do.
If you watch, many of the elite 11 have been going to qb coaches for a few years now and the college staff is going to change some of that anyway.
Well Shea was the Elite 11 MVP, so there's that.
Shea was an absolute elite stud high school qb. Stud at camps and army practice and army game.
He's got a long wind-up the staff will have to correct.
You may recall that JJ fell at the end of the cycle, too. He turned out OK. Consider how much more extensive the scouting is for the NFL, yet their track record isn’t better than, what, 50%. * It’s hard to quantify what makes for a good QB.
* wild-ass guess on my part
This is a good point. And I'd guess it's far less than 50 percent.
I was thinking first round QBs, since those are the selections with the highest expectations, and hence, the most scouted.
Along those lines - is Trey Lance a bust?
If yes, is it because of:
A) an inefficient throwing motion -or-
B) because he can't stay on the field?
If A) then is that bad QB eval by SF, or have they not been able to fix it up to now because of B)?!
Grading the draft picks gets so complicated when context is added in!
It's way, way worse than that.
No quarterback draft position has a greater than 50% success rate except #1 overall.
I wondered about this immediately once I heard Devin was involved, for once my conspiracy theories paid off…
Devin talked about the intangibles Davis has above the shoulders. Much rather have that than “Built like Tarzan, plays like Jane.”
Devin is apparently a Sith Lord.
This is not in GIF form.
I am dissapoint.
After the hard to listen to ( to put it nicely ) Spring Game broadcast I’m surprised Devin still is employed in broadcasting. He was absolutely annoying and I had to just turn the sound off. Many other Michigan fans shared the same review on GB Wolverine - Michigan Insider and M&B .I wasn’t the only person that turned the sound off.
Devon needs a little less motor mouth and goofballing and a lot more professionalism. Michigan can do better than him. Jake Butt on the other looked like Keith Jackson next to Gardner. He actually has some broadcast talent.
Hey I’m a Michigan Realist
Sounds as rock solid as your last bold opinion. What was that again? Something like "Raylen Wilson plays for Ohio State and Notre Dame at the same time because he hates Michigan that much?"
Nope you got that wrong old buddy old pal.
I mistakenly included Wilson in a comment about FLORIDA commitments. I owned up to it shortly after. So actually your comment about me saying it was OSU or Notre Dame is as rock solid as my blunder.
You must of rushed your comment trying to be funny or cute. It was a fail. However, I’m sure you’ll have other opportunities in the insult game and me. You’re gonna have to sharpen your game in that category though.
BTW My opinion doesn’t have to be rock solid. Personal opinions are just that. With people who agree with them they are solid opinions. Expand your consciousness a bit. I by no stretch of the imagination am the only Michigan fan that thinks DG is atrocious as a media broadcaster.
Also by the way I don’t hate Michigan. I have been a fan since 1971 but I call em as I see em. Michigan is great but a portion of our fan base just like most fan bases drink the cool aid while wearing rose colored glasses You for instance 😊
That’s being a realist.
Age checks out, Im 39 and love Devin’s energy and QUALITY analysis of the game. Watch MMQB and that may change your mind. Jake Butt over Devin, hilarious, just deliver the facts Devin and don’t have any fun!
Wait, is it an "opinion" or is it "reality"? Smells like dogshit to me!
It's "must have" not "must of." I wish your excuse was that you rushed it.
