[Inflammatory Headline about 6 Month Old Michigan Case]

Submitted by MrVociferous on

The crimes have to do with child pornography by a resident at the hospital.  And since they failed to report this to the police for six months, Michigan may also be guilty of failing to adhere to the Cleary Act.  They violated the Cleary Act back in 2008 too according to the article.

And for all of those "this would never happen at Michigan" people...this is why you never say never.

[ED:BISB - This is really old news (the article links to an AnnArbor.com report from FEBRUARY 3rd for Crissake), and the original headline was ridiculously misleading. However, I've been accused of trying to whitewash things in the past, so here she stands. Also, it gives people a chance to BOO THIS MAN.

That said, this is a bullshit comparison. Even the article admits that "the details of the Michigan case and the Sandusky case diverge wildly." Read this:

After a series of misunderstandings and confusion over who was responsible for the case — and a lack of clear evidence beyond the woman’s allegation — no one reported Jenson to the police.

Then try to compare it to Sandusky/Paterno/Spanier/Curley/etc. Go ahead. Really]

[ED 2 - Also, I fixed your link. You're welcome.]

I never said it would never happen at Michigan, only that the perpatrators of the coverup would not have a freaking statue.  Creeps are everywhere.  Michigan has had its fair share.  I just know I would not worship a guy who passively allowed children to be raped for 14 years.

Also, already posted.

The link goes back to your own, but IIRC it was a mid-level (at best) employee who hesitated reporting info. The argument isn't that there aren't pedophiles everywhere, the argument is that usually, senior university officials (yes, Hoke is a senior official) report what they know about child abuse.

Apparently also must be reported to the US Dept of Ed under the Cleary Act:

Arrest and/or disciplinary referrals for Liquor-law violations.

Actually, having worked in the Office of Student Conflict Resolution when I was on campus, I can attest that Michigan does faithfully compile all - and I mean all - of our MIPs and other liquor-law violations in an annual report for the US Dept of Ed. In fact, just 2-3 years ago we switched over to an automated data entry system that tagged and compiled them for us.

Wow, glad we needed ANOTHER thread about this.  Seriously, what the fuck vociferous?  If you're going to post something like this, make sure it's not really old news first.  And don't compare this to Penn State.

OMG what an idiot flamethrower the OP is. a few comparisons: 5) administrative errors vs deliberate cover up 4) 6 months vs 12 years 3) Misdemeanor vs felony 2) low level administrators involved vs iconic coach and university president 1) 12 years of direct harm to children
