Big steal from MSU

I'm happy. I like Andrel Anthony and his game. ( It doesn't hurt that this is a zero sum recruiting win against Sparty.)

He's not the flashiest WR but I think he'll be a productive WR.

I see he's not much into Sparty girls.

Possibly I guess you could say that living around Sparties for your whole life, he's tired of Sparty girls.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

East Lansing HS belongs to us. First Brandon Johns spurns Izzo and now this.

The first remotely good guy in MI that gave them a chance and that msu had a chance to land, too. OOPS!

Not the first. Jamari Buddin's recruitment was somewhat similar except for the destination. Both had pretty much written off MSU before Tucker came, then eventually were thought to be MSU leans, then decided to go elsewhere.

Just to create some perspective: Anthony would have been the #1 composite rated recruit in MSU's class by almost 150 spots. He is Michigan's 14th best recruit in the class, according to the rankings.

I really like Tucker's staff, it's just I haven't been able to really build a relationship with them like I have with Michigan since my sophomore year...

*sigh* ... Story of the spring/summer for MSU. He does sound like a good kid, so I hope he does well 12 out of the 13 games a year

I think Tucker is a decent recruiter and will be able to pull in some decent players to MSU, but when you're in the same division as OSU, UM, and PSU, and you've got guys like Fleck, Fickell, and Stoops fighting for the same type of guys, being "decent" isn't going to cut it.

Receiver is probably the least-needed position in this class for MSU, so from an on-field perspective it's not a huge miss. But he seems like a good kid and would have been a good guy to have in the locker room. Also, missing out on a good prospect in your own backyard just hurts, especially when you're trying to get some momentum going. It's definitely a bummer, but life goes on.

Given the roster in EL, MSU cannot lose any recruiting battles.  They lack team speed, depth and skill across the board. The D lost 7 of their top 9 players and they have 1 guy (Simmons) on D as a guy who would seriously challenge for a starting role at UM or OSU.
It takes a lot of squinting to see their WR corps as strong - they had approx 550 yds receiving combined (excl Barnett who is playing DB apparently). They played behind two undrafted WRs and Seybart.  Bell and Nico each had more yds than the whole MSU corps combined.
It j ust seems like UM made a late push to pull a strong WR AND really hurt a desperate MSU. The 2021 class is wretched in EL and Harbaugh just made it stick there even longer.

I don't think anyone would see the MSU receiving group as exceptional, but it's a very young group  - the expected top 3 receivers are all sophomores, and on top of that they took 4 WR in the last class. Also, the receivers won't really matter that much unless they can figure out who's going to throw them the ball, and the QB won't really matter until they get the line to block for him. And as you mentioned the defense is a massive question mark. Getting Anthony would have been good no matter what, but receiver is the least of MSU's worries at the moment.

If anyone was wondering Anthony definitely fits the speed in space offense as he reportedly runs a 4.47 forty. While he’s not the perfect prospect right now in the future he’ll be a great player for Michigan.

Yeah but that 4.47 gets five FAKES out of five. He’s absolutely NOT known as a burner or a quick twitch guy. He plays like a big bodied possession receiver, not a quick twitch speed in space guy.

He’s the solid Grant Perry/Junior Hemingway type kid who QBs love to go to for their solid hands and their ability to find open field. Even if he does have that speed (he doesn’t), it doesn’t translate to the field when he plays.
