Harbaugh to Serve on National Council for Legal Aid

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

Legal Services Corporation connects legal service providers to low income people. Harbaugh will be on the Leaders Council.

Quote of relevance regarding Harbaugh:

“The first step to more funding is more awareness,” said Sandman. “If Jim Harbaugh would simply speak on the issue [of the legal aid crisis] it would be heard differently.” Sandman credits Sidley Austin partner John Levi, the chairman of LSC’s board, with recruiting the famed football coach and others. “John knows everybody,” he said.

The SEC and ACC are now lobbying the NCAA to ban coaches from working with low income people in any capacity.

My appreciation of the man continues to rise. And it started at a very high level.

Legal Aid meets (or tries to meet) a pressing need.  A tremendous amount of people in our country lack any meaningful access to the justice system.

He doesn't take his status for granted.  He understands that he's privileged to be in his current position, commanding this salary, and wants to always work his hardest to prove he's worth it.  It's refreshing.

This is yet another example of Jim Harbaugh showing up in places where his presence may not be exactly intuitive, but I am sure his leadership would be appreciated and useful all the same. Also, as someone said, definitely another example of the practical end of "Leaders And Best" in action. Very cool indeed.

John Levi - as in Levi Stadium?  That would be the likely connection.  MF'ing Harbaugh!!!  The guy is everywhere when a good cause needs help!

A college football coach being a good and altruistic person? This is the concept that the SEC and ACC (lol ACC) cannot grasp: it is possible to help others and help yourself at the same time. And occasionally, to just help others. Good luck convincing them that Harbaugh isn't doing this for some kind of on-field advantage. Because that's how they think: every action MUST be designed to hurt opponents as much as possible while benefitting yourself as much as possible. In economics we call it a "beggar thy neighbor" policy. Those never work out long term. Sorry to threadjack. Rant over.

This is pretty awesome. Legal Aid does good work and needs more support. Harbaugh seems like, at his core, a good dude, much better than a bunch of guys who thump the bible and talk about family and morality but are POSs when nobody is looking.

I'm surprised that this is a particular one Harbaugh has latched onto, but pleased all the same. Funding for it is at historically low levels.

However, for brevity's sake, I think he needs to re-format his resume. Instead of listing thing he has done / currently does, he should just list the things he hasn't done / currently doesn't.

His energy is limitless. I wouldn't be surprised to one day read "Harbaugh To Be a First Man To a Travel To Mars - Will Be Back In Time For Fall Camp."

Just when I thought Jim H. could not rise any higher in my estimation, he signs on to promote more funding for Legal Aid. Those of us who provide civil legal representation to low-income people have taken a huge hit in the past few years. My office lost 1/3 of its attorneys and 1/2 of its support staff due to funding cuts. It's getting harder and harder to "do more with less."

Just when we need him most, Jim comes through!
