Hackett = Professional

Submitted by Black Socks on

Hackett did a very good job with the presser.  He has a completely different tone than Brandon.  Now I don't know if he's the guy long term, but I have more confidence in him now.

Thoughts?

If the criteria for being the AD is simply not being an asshat, I think that qualifies a hell of a lot of people.

But, I did appreciate the way he handled the presser and I wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

This was well-handled by Hackett, I think. He started off by praising Brady Hoke and his values and the things he has instilled into the program and took it from there really. It was balanced and tacful and probably about as good as it gets given the circumstances.

Interesting that MikeDeBord, though not a candidate, will handle the day-to-day administration of the program until a successor is found. He's handling questions very well though - it's definitely a different, more stiudied and open approach than Brandon's.

Dear Donors and Friends,

As part of the Michigan Athletics Family, I want you to know that I have informed Brady Hoke that he will not be returning as our football coach.

I want to thank Brady for his hard work and effort on behalf of Michigan Football, this athletic department and the University. He has done a great job of molding these young men, making them accountable to each other, and focusing them on success in the classroom and in the community.

Brady has worked tirelessly and represented this program with class and integrity. I wanted to make sure that he received adequate time to exhibit the results that would come from his effort. I believe that Brady and our coaching staff had enough time to produce those results and unfortunately they are not there. I feel that moving in a different direction is the right decision.

Moving forward, my objective is to find the right coach for the University of Michigan. This individual will recruit the best student-athletes and put them in position to win in the classroom, on the field and in the community. That is what makes Michigan the world-class University that we all support with great enthusiasm.

Go Blue,

Jim

He just about dropped a Harbaugh-Bomb talking about time frames for availability. "Whether they're in bowl games or whether they're...wherever they are."

Brady Hoke wowed everyone in his first presser.

Dave Brandon gave a masterful defense in his response to Stretchgate.

My thought is that we should stop deciding what we think about people based on their first high-profile, scripted public speaking.

I fear the problem is he has been waiting to assure Harbaugh or Miles or whoever he is looking at before firing Brady.

I'm impressed.  Brandon always sounded like an arrogant MF'er even in the days of the pimp hand.  Hackett really sounds like someone who owns what he knows but doesn't claim to know everything else.  Plus in my experience, to be able to come across as compassionate as he really sounds means he really is that way.

Well it's still going, but yeah he's doing a good job. He is handeling the q&a very well and looks like he'll take into account the necessary factors to make the right choice. He knows how important this hire is.

Carr is more responsible for Michigan's fall than either RR or Hoke (with a little bit of Bill Martin on the side for negligently not having a succession plan in place).  Quit drinking the Kool-Aid.

Obviously I strongly disagree, and weirdly, I don't even like Kool-aid! :) Thanks for offering, Jim!

All kidding aside, I think here is a lot of blame to go around. Personally, my top group is:

1. Coleman - It's my view that she did not adapt to the financial realities of the situation when RR was hired, and hamstrung Martin. Not providing leadership on new hire thereafter.

2. Martin - Despite doing a heck of a job and finding Rodriguez (a Carr suggestion..hmmm), he did not provide any sort of leadership to the Michigan community thereafter.

3. Brandon - Firing Rodriguez, and MANY other things that have been documented here.

4. Hoke - Not good at football coaching.

5. Rodriguez - Not fighting hard enough for his guy Casteel pre-hire. I know the situation was bad, but if he could have managed 2-3 more wins in 2008, it would have been huge. 1: Hiring Gerg to run 3-3-5.

6. Michigan Community that turned against Rodriguez cause they didn't like the accent, didn't like the spread, plus losing in first year. Yes, Carr is probably some part of this.

Your posts remind me of Billy Madison... "What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul"

He already knows who is coming...  That much is obvious.  He's a cool guy, but probably wouldn't be a good poker player... or he's doing it on purpose.  He looks downright giddy.
