World's tallest loon speaks the truth here, folks. I've known and followed the work of Gavia since making a migratory stopover on Center Lake, and I can assure you that he's the real deal!

Isn't my thing, but applaud the persistence, enthusiasm, and the win.

  • Pittsburgh (21-8, 14-4) at Notre Dame (10-19, 2-16) - (Pitt by 3.5) - 7pm on ESPNU - So, this one has been the daily debate here lol Here's where I stand (today). Pitt still has a chance to win the ACC regular season. Yes, the ACC is down but there is just no way they would get left out in that scenario. And we are ever so close to Pitt being another Quad-1 win for us. If they lose to ND tonight, I think our rooting interests may change but for tonight, my personal opinion, I think it's in Michigan's best interests for Pitt to win.

THWND!

I wonder if Weiss ends up at Alabama.

EDIT: I'll never be able to resist applying a gif from The Office. As far as things that make me cringe about the fan experience, one thing that comes to mind was an observation from my visit for the MSU night game. We were walking through the west concourse and could hear crowd noise coming from S. Main. The noise was coming from a full-blown stage production from a well known digital media company that I don't care to name. The amplified obscenities and garbage rolling around everywhere (actual garbage; not STAEE fans, though there might have been a few) seemed more appropriate for East Lansing than Ann Arbor. I realize the production wasn't university-affiliated, but the proximity to the stadium put a bit of yuck taste in my mouth before the game. The victory, however, was sweet.

In case it hasn't been asked yet (I'm guilty for being late and for now scrolling through all of the submissions):

How much stronger can we expect the BIG West to be in 2023, versus its abysmal 2022? Will the conference experience a positive bump as a result of coaching changes and the portal, and how significant will it be? How do you expect Michigan will fare against Nebraska, Minnesota, and Purdue?

Sorry. That's three questions.

I struggle to maintain an interest in college football after January 1st.

After winning the BIG, I was mostly satisfied with Michigan Football for the year. I attended the Fiesta Bowl, which was a cool experience (despite the outcome), but I didn't have the normal feels I get during the regular season.

But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

It might not be any of my …

It might not be any of my "damn business" why someone would choose to drive a PT Cruiser, but I can still be curious as to why in the heck someone would choose to do so.

And in a world for A) everything is subject to public scrutiny because of the internet, B) 21-year-old athletes can be idolized by fan bases, and C) gun ownership in the United States is considered a socially divisive issue, I don't think my curiosity about why a 21-year-old top student athlete would have a gun is necessarily "psycho analysis" (whether he was operating legally or not).

I'm simply trying to put myself in that person's shoes and gain a better understanding.

That said, even after being forced to drive a PT Cruiser by a rental service, I can't understand why people drove them.

Why does my curiosity about…

Why does my curiosity about the headline-making behavior of a member of the team I cheer for and that's poised to play for the College Football Playoff matter?

Because I'm a fan, maybe? Because I'm trying to understand and appreciate the individual, perhaps?

This blog dissects--and often celebrates--the lives of these players outside of football, from their service in the community, to their lives as pet owners, their academic successes, etc. How is this different?

Honest question...

Why does…

Honest question...

Why does a 21-year-old college student and top athlete, who is poised to make millions in the NFL, need a weapon at all?

Reasons I can think of:

  • Protection? I have no idea what kind of public pressure (i.e. stalking, threats, harassment) individuals in Mazi's position face. If it's on the level of needing to protect oneself with a firearm, wouldn't the university being providing some kind of guidance or security?
  • For fun, or as a hobby? I have relatives and acquaintances that collect guns. It seems a little over the top to me, but I also have more fly rods than any normal person should own (though fly rods aren't particularly lethal). This seems like an odd hobby for a 21-year-old college student and top athlete, but that's only my opinion. I'm twice Mazi's age and far from a "freak" athlete.
  • Machismo? Trying to be "cool?"
  • Belongs to a friend and happened to be in Mazi's possession?
  • Something else I'm not thinking of?

I know we're lacking a lot of important details at this time. The possibility that this young man, star athlete, seemingly affable dude with a bright future would need or want to be around guns is something that baffles me. This sort of thing seems to happen every so often, though.

For me, a head-scratcher. Also, a total bummer if this prevents him from competing for Michigan again.
