Well when a "#3" ranked team gets jail-sexed by the "#2" team (at the time) by a score of 0 - 38, the Committee needs to be hard on not only themselves and the football team they erroneously thought was that good.  They failed to see all the close gmaes and injuries to key opposition players (Oregon qb) and went purely by record, and in a season of blowout bowl games, that was the biggest one.

That's just tremendous news, Jim. I can't wait for the day that Coach Carr announces the four tremendous programs that have made the playoffs. They'll all have just finished up a tremendous regular season and there's no question that they'll all be ready to compete in a tremendous playoff run to decide the champion.

Cooper's record against Illinois was notoriously bad, and nobody really understood why. I think Ohio State lost the first 5 games they played against Illinois when Cooper started as coach. Cooper's final record against Illinois was 6-7. Against Michigan: 2-10-1 Bowls: 3-8 Overall: 111-43-4 (70-30-4) So, well over half of his losses while at Ohio State were against Michigan, Illinois and in bowls. That is essentially what got him fired (interestingly, while Cooper was head coach of Arizona State his record was 1-2 against Arizona). As a head coach, Cooper's overall record was 192-84-6, which as good enough to get him in the College Football Hall of Fame (inducted in 2008). Cooper's predecessor, Earl Bruce, had a record of 81-26-1, a little better than Cooper. Ohio State was in decline in the last few years of Woody Hayes (9-2-1, 9-3, and 7-4-1 in his last 3 years, in order) and continued through Bruce and Cooper. Ohio State was nowhere near the elite program it is now when Tressel arrived in Columbus in 2000.

A class act MICHIGAN coach. I still can't imagine the pain he is suffering after the loss of Chad! Hope he gets the job and wish nothing but the best for the Carr Family!

but I have to question a genuine interest on his part to become a part of this. It became pretty clear that when he decided he was done coaching, he was done coaching. He really took his foot off the gas during the last couple of years in terms of keeping the shelves full. This is not a knock on Lloyd at all because he unquestionably gave us some very good years.

I realize membership on this committee is more of an honor and speaks to the knowledge and integrity of the members and I don't think there is a great deal of stress involved in giving your honest opinions on which teams are actually the best. However, to be able to do this in the manner Lloyd liked to do things when he was at his peak in AA obviously requires numerous hours of film study in order to formulate an honest opinion. I really believe a large percentage of the members involved do not put in the hours they should in formulating their opinions. The same is true of Heisman voters and I have huge doubts, except for former Heisman winners that live on the west coast,, just how many really tune into those midnight games.  I think this is contrary to Lloyd's mind set when he accepts the obligations of a given position. I really have no concerns that he would hold Michigan to a higher standard if he does accept an appointment.

I think it could be beneficial to him if he approached it as a means of staying involved with the game he devoted so much of his life to, and if he still maintains a high level of interest in the game then there would be no downside. I am just uncertain that Lloyd still holds a high level of interest in the game.  And actually aside from the qualifications of understanding the game, I think this is the only other real requirement.

The committee members all take it pretty serious.  They are each assigned a region and set of teams to focus on, and they become the "expert" for those teams.  So say Carr is selected to be part of the committee.  He'd get assigned like the Big 12 or something like that.  So it would be his job to watch as many Big 12 games as he could and be knowledgeable on those teams.  You don't have to watch every single Top 25 game.

So if Carr still wanted to play a role in CFB, and was watching games anyways, and didn't mind giving up 6 or so weekends a year to go to the committee meeting in Texas, its not that much extra commitment.

He's kind of an intellectual type anyway and I think he might enjoy something like that. One thing I know; they would get an extremely detailed report on the teams he is assigned to cover. It would be good for him and help keep him sharp. Can't help but laugh though when I think of Bo and Woody being put in a similar situation. Something tells me they would not relinquish the floor until the other members were in total agreement with them.

Hell yeah, Lloyd's the fuckin man.

Won a ton of football games and turned a lot of high school kids into millionaire, ass-kicking nfl football players, and I know a lot of old players who love him too.
