Per ESPN: Lloyd Carr a finalist for CFP Committee

Nothing official yet, but it would certainly be interesting if he made it. Says he is one of about 6-8 candidates. They have to replace 4 members that are leaving.
Hopefully he will have plenty to vote on with Harbaugh turning things around in AA.

Michigan will never be the 4th/5th best team.
They will always be top 2 so no worries. He will have to be hard on OSU/Sparty though, don't want to favor the B1G.
January 15th, 2016 at 8:13 PM ^
Well when a "#3" ranked team gets jail-sexed by the "#2" team (at the time) by a score of 0 - 38, the Committee needs to be hard on not only themselves and the football team they erroneously thought was that good. They failed to see all the close gmaes and injuries to key opposition players (Oregon qb) and went purely by record, and in a season of blowout bowl games, that was the biggest one.

I can't remember the committee member, but there was one who had multiple ties to multiple schools. So he had to leave the room for multiple schools when they came up. They take that shit pretty serious.
January 15th, 2016 at 6:25 PM ^
Yes, they leave the room. But regardless, don't forget that Lloyd refused to fight for us in 2006. I don't think he'd unfairly favor us.

LC had his shortcomings as a HC, but there was nothing he could have done or said that was going to get us into a rematch with OSU for the NC game.

That's just tremendous news, Jim. I can't wait for the day that Coach Carr announces the four tremendous programs that have made the playoffs. They'll all have just finished up a tremendous regular season and there's no question that they'll all be ready to compete in a tremendous playoff run to decide the champion.

False. 2 losses in 99 (or 00?) and 06.
Great coach. Great man. Ran into a cheating buzzsaw in Tressel. Only real blemish.

A class act MICHIGAN coach. I still can't imagine the pain he is suffering after the loss of Chad! Hope he gets the job and wish nothing but the best for the Carr Family!
January 15th, 2016 at 6:13 PM ^
It would be good for him if he did it and is respected in the game of football.
January 15th, 2016 at 6:24 PM ^
I am still confused as to why exactly they need an official committee, though.
January 15th, 2016 at 6:32 PM ^
but I have to question a genuine interest on his part to become a part of this. It became pretty clear that when he decided he was done coaching, he was done coaching. He really took his foot off the gas during the last couple of years in terms of keeping the shelves full. This is not a knock on Lloyd at all because he unquestionably gave us some very good years.
I realize membership on this committee is more of an honor and speaks to the knowledge and integrity of the members and I don't think there is a great deal of stress involved in giving your honest opinions on which teams are actually the best. However, to be able to do this in the manner Lloyd liked to do things when he was at his peak in AA obviously requires numerous hours of film study in order to formulate an honest opinion. I really believe a large percentage of the members involved do not put in the hours they should in formulating their opinions. The same is true of Heisman voters and I have huge doubts, except for former Heisman winners that live on the west coast,, just how many really tune into those midnight games. I think this is contrary to Lloyd's mind set when he accepts the obligations of a given position. I really have no concerns that he would hold Michigan to a higher standard if he does accept an appointment.
I think it could be beneficial to him if he approached it as a means of staying involved with the game he devoted so much of his life to, and if he still maintains a high level of interest in the game then there would be no downside. I am just uncertain that Lloyd still holds a high level of interest in the game. And actually aside from the qualifications of understanding the game, I think this is the only other real requirement.

The committee members all take it pretty serious. They are each assigned a region and set of teams to focus on, and they become the "expert" for those teams. So say Carr is selected to be part of the committee. He'd get assigned like the Big 12 or something like that. So it would be his job to watch as many Big 12 games as he could and be knowledgeable on those teams. You don't have to watch every single Top 25 game.
So if Carr still wanted to play a role in CFB, and was watching games anyways, and didn't mind giving up 6 or so weekends a year to go to the committee meeting in Texas, its not that much extra commitment.
January 15th, 2016 at 8:11 PM ^
He's kind of an intellectual type anyway and I think he might enjoy something like that. One thing I know; they would get an extremely detailed report on the teams he is assigned to cover. It would be good for him and help keep him sharp. Can't help but laugh though when I think of Bo and Woody being put in a similar situation. Something tells me they would not relinquish the floor until the other members were in total agreement with them.

It won't be the fact that they have no defense. The fact that they have to beat both USC and Stanford probably won't either.
January 15th, 2016 at 6:48 PM ^
I really don't see him wanting to do this at this point in his life. He'd have to give up his Saturdays with his family in Ann Arbor, that would be tough to do.

January 15th, 2016 at 7:35 PM ^
He wouldn't be a candidate if he wasn't interested. And if he's already watching CFB on Saturdays, its not that much of an additional time commitment.
People get bored when they're retired. Something like this could be a fun thing for him to do.

Hell yeah, Lloyd's the fuckin man.
Won a ton of football games and turned a lot of high school kids into millionaire, ass-kicking nfl football players, and I know a lot of old players who love him too.

That came directly from Freddy, who stated: "Fred is methodical like socrates and decisive like Lance Ito. He'd be a tremendous asset to the committee"
