Darius Morris on Big Ten Pulse: "We're all coming back."

Submitted by gpsimms not to… on

For all the rumor mongerers about Darius leaning towards going the nba:

They don't ask him about the NBA, they only ask him about how exciting it is to have such a young team playing well, and Darius says that everyone will be back.

But, but....random internet site vaguely said he was leaving....Were they misinformed??? Man, total mind-blow...

Good to hear from the horse's mouth. This team has a lot of potential, what with no seniors and about a zillion freshman. Can't wait to see what they can do if they stay and grow for next year and beyond.

There are very few things that make me lose faith in humanity more than when a large group decides to take a single sentence someone wrote on a website, believe it, expand upon it, and panic about it.

I have to believe the benefits of staying are going to outweigh the benefits of leaving early.  What are the %ages of second round draft picks making it onto an NBA team?  Lots of potential for washing out.  If Morris can develope his jumper he is going to move from a borderline/NBDL player to a lottery pick.  I have to believe that long-term that makes more financial sense.

Totally agree. If Darius's staying a year helps him develop:

  • His handle
  • His left
  • His 15-20 foot jumper
  • His post game
  • 15-20 lbs

He will be a lottery pick. He's never going to be Chris Paul or Tony Parker, but he could be more in the mold of Deron Williams or even a better passing/worse slashing version of Derrick Rose.

No, Freddy J would be: "Darius Morris is like a combination of Steve Nash, Pete Maravich, and Derrick Rose, except he sees passing angles those guys don't see and he's also better at getting to the rim."

I'm just saying that Darius will never be the jitterbug type of PG, but he could, with some creatine shakes, develop into more of a mauler like Deron Williams and his ilk.

Thats a terrible comparison. Morris just doesn't have the athleticism or the explosion. Morris struggles to dunk without a good running start. Both the PGs you mentioned play above the rim and have blinding speed with the ball. I won't even get into his shot. Morris could be a nice back up if he works enough on his shot.

Agree with all the points on him staying.

I just dont get why you leave early (ala Donovan Warren) after some scout tells you your 2nd round material....newsflash they tell that to 50 kids and there is a finite number of teams that can draft you in that 2nd round.

Stay in school, your a big man on campus enjoy it, then make that jump to your payday.

Well he said that they are all coming back sort of in passing as if to just say that the team is young. While I don't think he's going to the NBA for many reasons, I also don't think this video really has any insight as to whether he wants to go or to stay(or will go or stay for that matter)

For all of these players there is something on the table as a major reason to stay: the opportunity to win.

As I said in an earlier thread - 8 of the 12 (next season) teams in the Big Ten should be losing their leading scorers to graduation or (tOSU) the draft.  A few also lose their #2.

The teams not losing (as of right now) thier top scorer are Indiana (loses their #8 only and brings in a 5 star recruit), Iowa (loses only their #5), Northwestern (loses their #2) and UM.

Outside of Indiana and their 5 star, the other teams with potentially difference-making recruiting classes are MSU, tOSU, and Illinois.

That should mean that for next season the Big Ten race looks to be between tOSU, MSU, UM, Illinois, and potnetially Indiana.

20+ wins should be a given, with 22-25 certainly within reach and a tourney seed an expectation.

Orrrr......fringe 2nd round pick and Europe or D-League a real possibility?

The Big Ten could be wide open next year.  OSU, MSU and Illinois all lose major contributors.    Their frosh may step in and fill the gaps, but that's far from assured.  I think we will see IU make a big leap.  Purdue, with Hummel, may still be in the mix.  If we can shore up the 4 spot  and find a second ballhandler (Burke?), we could be a load.

Interwebs explode with rumor.  The next day, player in question goes on BTN to quash rumors and generate more fluffy good press for the team.  I like this media savvy we're seeing from the AD these days.

It would be nice to get some seperation with the 6 frosh currently on the roster. With everyone back maybe Belien can RS Colton and possibly Horford, although I do think Horford is going to be to valuable  to RS next season.
