Better stadium experience

Submitted by Canadian on
I haven't seen anything noting the improvements made in the stadium. I for one noticed a few small details that actually made my day better
1) the biggest improvement for me was the NCAA scoreboard scrolling through the games across the country all game long on the scoreboards. I absolutely love this as now I can kind of keep in touch when I'm over at a game.
2) my cell service was pretty excellent all game. Was able to send and receive texts without the difficulty I had noticed in past
3) improvements at the concessions. I only got a pretzel but they were a lot bigger and way better than in years past.

What say you guys??

Did they run out of frozen lemonade? I stood in two lines last game I was at, just to have them run out right before I got to the front.

at stands near north end zone.  My daughter and her BF were 3rd in line behind someone who bought the last four; they then checked two other stands only to find nothing.

Warm, humid, partly-sunny day---you'd think they would be better prepared with sufficient supplies.

scoreboard with score updates.

I still find the lack of silence incredibly obnoxious.  Just a few commercials I would like nothing going on where I can just talk to people around me.  I don't need to be entertained every second I am there.

I also really would like the music to go away on kickoffs.

Students still can't do the wave right......

I'm a student who is right on the edge of the student section literally right where the wave started today and usually starts, so I feel I'll have some influence going forward this season on getting the wave done right. The big issue I think is that we did it on offense and not defense, thus we scored the touchdown and that kept us from being able to do to the split wave following the slow one. Otherwise I thought it worked well, only 1 or 2 failures before success (thanks to the pathetic alumni section next to us), we did it middle of the third quarter which is when it should be done, and of course in a blowout.

So was doing it on offense the only problem with the wave as it was done today?

You know, this seems to be a huge controversy around here.  I agree with you, the wave should be done while Michigan is on defense, but when I posted that opinion here a year or two ago, there were many people who insisted that I was wrong and the wave should be done while Michigan has the ball.

I don't understand that point of view at all, but the last time this came up it seemed to be pretty evenly split.

Yep, today showed the main reason why we should be doing it when Michigan is on defense and not offense. I also kinda like the angle that by doing it when the other team is on offense (and of course we're in a blowout), it's kind of subtly disrespecting them by showing that the entire stadium cares more about doing the wave than paying attention to their drive. That's not as big a factor as the Michigan-TD-interrupts-the-wave issue, but it's another point in favor of doing it on defense and not offense.

So the matter is settled. Defense it is!

I think the Wave should be done when we're on offense.  When we're on defense, that's when we should be most engaged as fans, ready to generate noise.  The Wave makes it hard to do that.   And in most games like this, our offense doesn't do much in the second half while the opposing team is frantically trying to move the ball on our defense.

I like the scoreboard inprovements, I can actually see the down and distance now.  Cell service was great, music has been changed, and concessions were fine--although a bit pricey.  Overall, the experience was great.  Most importantly though, the team looked much better.

The food is still pretty awful. I used to be able to at least count on some decent pizza but now and the last two years that MGoBlue pizza has been just truly terrible. None of the food is very good IMO. I went to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games this year and was amazed by the food in Indy. Same prices but the food tastes good AND IS FRESH! The pizza was actually made and baked at the counters where it was bought. Obviously our great leader Dave Brandon totally walked by the food though there as he continues to sell us crap.

Scoreboards were definitely an improvement, and they kept accurate stats. I guess it only takes 4 years to work out the kinks. The piped in music is still terrible, but at least they didn't play 7 Nation Army.

$4.50 for a bottle of water is unconscionable.  Granted there are the free cups at the water station.  The DiGiorno pizza tastes exactly like what it is,  grocery frozen pizza and is also beyond overpriced.  I understand about making profits but not happy about the blatant gouging.  While many adults can easily last a game without eating, a lot of kids can't, and we can't bring food in for them.

Agree about the scoreboard updates.  The other nice thing about the scoreboard was that they kept the stat board up pretty much all the time, whereas in years past they'd only show it at certain moments.   The board is big enough that they don't need to go to full-screen mode that often.

My one complaint is reserving the entire northeast gate for students.  That's the most popular gate by far and it's a pain for the rest of us to have to walk over by Crisler to get in.

The game day experience in my living room was great too.  The sun was brighter, the air a touch sweeter. Half a hundred tends to do that.

Have never had good cell service at a game. Today was no different. I liked the changes to the scoreboard and the piped in music was not as bad. I have no idea about concession items. I have not bought anything from the concession stand in over 10 years. Once I get to my seat I don't leave for the whole game.

Loved the stats and the other game scores. Did they do a better job with showing replays too? Seems like it. I have Sprint for my iPhone. Could not send or receive a text until I was at Allmendinger Park on way back to the car. Nice Game! Go Blue!

If you had sprint you were SOL but then again who has sprint? AT&T was solid all day. First time at the golf course from our usual spot on Berkley of a over a decade. Good time for sure.

1.  better music, no old 'favorites' that are past their prime.  also way less of the ultra-loud music to make you think you are at a pistons/wings game and the sound guy is on meth.

2.  cell coverage was fine.  i use my old clam-shell phone as a watch and noted i had bars all game long.  fyi, we are up in row 76 so maybe that helps.

3.  scoreboard run better since we got replays almost all the time and right away.  last year that was inexplicably but frequently missing.   and as noted, they kept scrolling the relevant out of town games all during the game instead of one lame update at half-time.   they even had a few highlights from those other games.

Michigan football has as much history and football tradition as any school in the land. But you'd never know jt because instead of doing something like showing great moments in Michigan history or whatever, they just cut to endless crowd shots all day. I don't care though. They played well and we all had a blast today. I can't wait to make the trek to South Bend

they have problem with not fitting all the students in the student section. The people working were great but there needs to be organization in the student section. I felt bad for some of the students that wanted to watch the game and were having trouble finding spots. Especially since a lot were seniors having problem finding a spots. The students deserve their time to shine and have as much stress free sports experience as possible.

Great phone and 3G coverage and awesome updates to the scoreboards. Only issue they ran out of hotdogs

Overall, it was a great day.

On the RAWK front, it wasn't too bad because there was actually some variety.

I sit in the West Side Chairbacks so we have very easy access to the upper concourse on the West side.  The food service was abysmal today.  I waited almost ten minutes and never advanced in line; I finally gave up so I wouldn't miss pre-game.  My wife was with my daughters a couple of minutes behind my son and I.  By the time she got to the front of the line, still before kickoff..., they had already run out of hot dogs.  And I didn't like the new hot dogs at all.  Too fat and not, well, hot.

A HUGE positive is that at either end of the upper concourse they had about a dozen push faucets.  So once you bought one bottle of water, you could refill them at those stations.  My wife and I were commenting that all 5 of us drank a lot more water because of it.  Nice to not feel like you have to spend fifty dollars to keep the family hydrated.

Cell service seemed better.  Still spotty at times, but I got on the WiFi and it was decent. Eventually. Still bad at busy times (like half time or between quarters).
