An apology to the board
I would like to make a sincere apology to the MGoBlog community. When I started my "A Few Interesting Recruiting Notes", my aim was just to update you guys on the comings and goings of recruits around the country. I'd also post what my friends were hearing about the Michigan recruits, because I thought you'd like to hear it. I had no idea, however, that it would turn into something as far reraching as it has become. These threads are being referenced on 247/Scout/ and even on the Bama and SEC boards. While I stand by EVERYTHING I've written, I'm bound to be wrong about something, because my friends can be wrong. I'm not very thick skinned truth be told, and I really don't want the backlash that will result from it.
I do this for fun, and I want it to continue being fun for me. With that being said, I'm no longer going to be doing these recruiting updates. I love this board, and I enjoy being a member of the community, so I will remain and be happy to share my thoughts on all things Alabama.

Wait.... YES! That's what I should have said!!!
You're through Riley! You just screwed yourself!!!
(I had to finish it, that's one of my all time favorite episodes)

One of my all time favorites too without question. I really think someone should start a Friday night Seinfeld open thread sometime. That would make me a happy man.
March 29th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
No matter how many times they play Seinfeld, I'll continue to tune in from time to time. That was probably one of my favorite episodes along with the two Michigan Bottle Deposit episodes.
WE'RE PULLING IN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS A MAN!

I was flipping through the channels the other day and I stumbled upon a Sienfeld episode that I never saw before. 9 years as a series and a decade of syndication after that and I find an episode I never saw before. It was like finding money in an old coat pocket.
I suspended all knowledge of future events and watched it like it was 1995 and brand new.

Could've had a cool nickname like T-Bone, but instead now we will refer to RDT as Koko.
...Gammy! Gammy!

Considering I didn't know there was a kerfuffle, I accept your apology for a non-issue and wish you the best in your online ways.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:10 AM ^
On the one hand I thought: who cares what a bunch of nameless, faceless, internet goofs think? If you have information, let 'er rip. If you're wrong, well we all get stuff wrong sometimes.
Then on the other hand I thought: You're right, this is a community. If we all didn't give a crap our community would turn into RCMB, or those godless heathens who spew propoganda for Ohio. I respect your respect for our community.
ROLL TIDE. Except on September 1, 2012.
An aside.. my brother-in-law's Dad played ball for 'Bama back in the day, so I adopted the Tide awhile ago. Yeah, I know.... cool story brah.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:24 AM ^
Speaking of roll tide, I love that ESPN commercial where all those people say "Roll Tide" in various situations. I started using the phrase on spring break at every gas station/rest stop we stopped at as we drove through Alabama. Most of the time I got a return "Roll Tide." Not sure why I enjoyed it so much, but it just seemed to be the thing to do. I'm sure half the people figured I was making fun of them.
March 29th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
Great commercial. Would have been better with GO BLUE though, of course.

People on the Internet can wildly overreact at times. Here it's no different. I (and I imagine others) understand your reticence. But your updates were valuable and appreciated. In any event, don't worry about the nasty people, and be sure to stick around and contribute to the dialogue.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:10 AM ^
Just take off the houndstooth hat and put this leather winged helmet on, my friend... It's that easy... Go... Blue...

I have seen his recruiting updates referenced on other sites, and they seem to have gone a long way in convincing more than a few people that Ty Isaac is in the bag for the Blue.
While I don't think it warrants shutting down the updates, I can understand why RDT is afraid of the possible backlash. Ty Isaac still seems a good deal away from a Michigan commitment, if it ever comes. And if it doesn't come, he would be breaking some hearts.

Ahh fuck 'em. That's what I say. It hasn't worked very well for me in the past, but hey, it might work for you since you actually contribute to the board and are well liked by the mgoblog community.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:17 AM ^
don't let idiots get in your way.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:18 AM ^
I enjoy your updates moreso for the SEC point of view, than the nuts and bolts of the information. I do not post very often but I have been coming to the site long enough to know a good poster when I see one. Its not like you are pulling your info from thin air, your updates appear to be thought out and have the requisite caveats to help you avoid any persecution. I for one hope you keep us in the Southern loop. Anyone who complains later can go f@#k a goat.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:20 AM ^
I am not well versed on your updates, but they couldn't have been worse than the Blockhams.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
These things happen. I totally understand your motivation and hope you still contribute. Thanks for the work you put in, it was much appreciated.

I don't know that what I'm about to say is much different than what many have already said but seriously, I always enjoyed your posts. There's a lot of pissing and moaning from time to time, but you're one of the few posters from an enemy camp that was always respectful and seemed to truly have his ear to the ground. I don't know where the backlash is coming from or to what level, but I hope you brush it aside and continue on. If not, it's been a joy reading your material.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:42 AM ^
Keep posting RDT, you are a thoughful and informative contributor.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:26 AM ^
My advice.
1. Its the internet, don't let e-backlash bother you.
2. Grow a pair.
Magnus gets hated on every time he posts about a recruit but we still love him and he keeps coming back(he might be a masochist but don't let that stop you).
March 29th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
Magnus fills that void with dougnuts and the possibility of more doughnuts to come.

While I support your decision... I mean, shit, there's no reason that your posting here should be a source of significant stress in your life, and if it is, the simple solution is to stop posting... but, I would also say that if others are citing your posts on this board and something turns out to be wrong, that's more on them than it's on you. I mean, come on, they're referencing an anonymous post on an electronic bulletin board fergodsake's... how reliable can you expect that kind of information to be?
Then again, if the issue is that your posts are negatively affecting your relationships with your sources... then I can see where you're coming from, and by all means do what you have to do!

March 29th, 2012 at 11:34 AM ^
Thanks for the updates, RDT. As it is with most recruiting notes, I think if taken at face value, they're very interesting. However, some people will take whatever they read, extrapolate and start a whole shitshow out of an innocuous comment.
Thanks for coming by. Hope you stick around through the Jerrydome showdown and beyond.

March 29th, 2012 at 11:38 AM ^
Screw those folks who gave you crap. However, I enjoyed your updates and you need to do what's best for you and your well being.
March 29th, 2012 at 11:42 AM ^
You were doing something that you enjoyed, added value to the community, was well-written and well-received. Now, because some "douche bags" aren't doing their homework but instead publishing opinion as fact, we all lose. But mostly you, because it appeared to be a passion and a nice connection to this board and to a fanbase outside of Alabama.
This just pisses me off. Sad for you, sad for us and pissed at the blow-hards who believe everything they read on the internet. I'm glad you'll still be around but I'll miss your updates. Roll Damn Tide!

RDT, you are posting on a blog. Also, no one knows your real name. Are you really so thin skinned that if someone says that someone with the handle Roll Damn Tide was wrong with a recruiting update that it will seriously have an effect on you? Just enjoy providing information as long as the intentions are good. No one should take recruiting too seriously, as we all have seen how the minds of 17-18 year old kids work. Just keep posting and enjoy both the praise and criticism that comes with it.

If you don't want to post your updates anymore, email them to Brian. Brian takes all kinds of info and anonymously distributes what he thinks is verified. That way we could still hear what you're hearing, if Brian deems it credible. He'd protect whatever sources you have too.
