He's still 8/18 for 72 yards at just 4.2 ypa

post that. Cook may look better relative to what they had before, but those numbers would not be considered good by any normal metric.

Nix is getting absolutely bullied out there. Pathetic.

at home against Utah State. Would LOVE to see USC get beat, and the meltdown afterwards.
September 21st, 2013 at 5:56 PM ^
Utah State finished the year in the top 25 last year, and has a very good QB.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:16 PM ^
Utah State is no joke. There's a reason why their coach from last year is now the head coach of Wisconsin. He helped develop them into a pretty good team before he left.

It ended in a field goal, but that was a good drive by MSU. Some nice power football.
September 21st, 2013 at 5:55 PM ^
After seeing ND 3 weeks straight, Tuitt and Nix are faaaaar from being first rounders. If MSU's perennially terrible OL is dominating you, you've got some work to do.
September 21st, 2013 at 5:57 PM ^
drive equals dominating. Still don't think MSU is over 4 yards a rush.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:00 PM ^
Nix and Tuitt have been ineffective all game. They're getting single blocked too effectively.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:05 PM ^
averaging only 3.5 yards a rush. They may be keeping Nix and Tuitt in check, but that is freeing up other guys.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:11 PM ^
My point is if you're a 'first rounder' you shouldn't be getting single blocked by Staee's cavalcade of mediocrity.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:18 PM ^
not being single blocked. Every replay I have seen he is being double blocked.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:30 PM ^
Same here. I have not seen him single blocked yet.

This may be a bit of talking out of my ass, and I haven't read throuhg all of the comments which will most likely be obvious, but I've been a bit impressed and/or surprised at Sparty's offense today. Granted, I haven't watched play-by-play as I've been watching multiple games but I'm going to claim that they're going to be typical Sparty this year. The pushover theme that was going on based on their offense being completely terrible I think is over. They're coming into form and frankly that sucks; they'll be a legitimate opponent.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:08 PM ^
It is not because of their offense though. Their defense will likely keep them in most games, just like last year. They still only have about 150 yards of offense in this game though, that is still pretty terrible. UM had more yards against ND through not even two quarters.
Edit: They have 165 yards so far, averaging 3.9 yards per pass and 3.5 yards a rush. That is still terrible anyway you slice it.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:03 PM ^
They've scored 10 points in nearly 3 quarters of play with 165 yards of offense.
We just expect them to be terrible so doing anything at all on offense makes it seem like they're doing well.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:03 PM ^
Remember though, Michigan scored 41 on ND and Purdue 24.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:10 PM ^
True. And to the points above, you all may be right in that we've/I've been a bit conditioned to think their offense is otherwordly bad when maybe it's only just bad.
I guess though I've been impressed by some of their running backs/runs and their QB is also hitting more marks than I expected. Caveats apply for sure.
And now they toss up a terrible trick play pass, go figure.

before we head up to East Lansing. We need to start winning there again! I don't want to be out muscled bullied again by lil brother! Don't understand why our higher recruited lineman can't break into the starting unit. MSU OL in manhandling that fearsome ND DL? I don't get it!
September 21st, 2013 at 6:12 PM ^
to the tune of 3.5 yards of rush. MSU's defensive line is good, but their o-line isn't dominating jack so far this year. Their o-line wasn't great last year either, they don't have Leveon Bell to bail them out somewhat this year though.
September 21st, 2013 at 6:08 PM ^
Sparty NOOO!!!!!
September 21st, 2013 at 6:09 PM ^
September 21st, 2013 at 6:13 PM ^
But I consider MSU an upper middle pack of the B1G. If they rough up our OL again it will be a tough game to win in EL! Hopefully our D can improve to match the more physical line play of the B1G!

Sparty's O line is doing a much better job of keeping Cook clean than ours did. I think they have 2TEs and the RB blocking though. So its apples to oranges - they want to make Cook beat them with his arm, and we can see, based on that last pick, that it is working.

Nice to see MSU actually getting called for being overly-physical. They do this every game and tend to get away with it most of the time. Bout time it caught up to them
September 21st, 2013 at 6:16 PM ^
