What a bizarre career for Aubrey Solomon.
I told myself as I was putting this together the first comment was going to be about 1 of 3 things:
- Aubrey Solomon not getting signed by anybody!
- Wow, I forgot Elysee Mbem-Basse existed.
- SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY!!!
I would've put money on the "msu no udfa + nelson haha" as a potential top 3 comment.
EDIT: Oh, that was a joke. I clearly don't care enough to follow msu to know that was a joke. Joke's on me, I guess?
It DID give us this gem of a picture (for which I am forever grateful):
I'm starting to wonder if Frankie Collins is the Aubrey Solomon of basketball. Frankie changed teams in high school multiple times and now changed college teams after 1 year. That level of mobility between programs, schools and teams is typically a red flag. I hope Frankie finds a home that suits him and he's able to maximize his potential, but the way he left here has me wondering and remembering Aubrey Solomon
He’s one of the recruitments I followed the closest and it honestly makes me sad for him now. I thought we were stealing one of those dominant SEC DTs who you would often times see at Bama or Auburn at the time.
What are the odds we could land two 5* DT from SEC country in a couple yr span and neither one of them gets drafted.
Definitely one of the more mysterious college football careers. I was sure he was going to be an impact player. His high school film looked like video of a bear attack. Football is hard.
After he left for Tennessee I stopped paying attention, but just went back to look at his stats.
Played in 11 games his first year there with 4 TFLs and 2 Sacks. Seems decent without knowing the context of those numbers.
Then he played in 9 games the following season and then only 2 last year. 1/2 a TFL in those 2 seasons and no sacks.
Haskell Garrett-I guess everyone has seen the Michigan game.
And the clip at the senior bowl of Stueber planting him into the ground.
Seems like most of the guys who left didn’t exactly make their mark on the game. I was glad to see Luiji Vilain had a good year this year and get picked up
Missed a big one: Luiji Vilain to the Vikings for $200K guaranteed, might have been one of the top UDFA's with that price tag!
Solomon going undrafted seems crazy to me, but then again Hinton also went undrafted so maybe we're all just overrating DTs?
Also, MSU I do think they've had a couple of guys signed as UDFAs. Panasiuk and Coughlin, I think, signed UDFA deals. Also, they had so many transfers out the past couple of years they may have had a guy or two get signed who effectively played at MSU.
Yeah I think 3 UDFAs and they got like 3-4 drafted
Well Seth's caveat was UDFAs of interest, so...
They're still coming in so I'm updating.
With all the holes on his roster, there was no interest in any UofM kids from Baalke. #odd
The Lions signed UDFA Kevin Jarvis from MSU for $155,000.
Wow. Aubrey Solomon from 5* to not even being an UDFA signee
edit- I can't even really find much evidence of him declaring for the draft. Apparently he barely played in 2021, got redshirted, then left UT a few months ago. I guess he declared but I don't see that anywhere. If he wasn't drafted, could he theoretically return to college somewhere?
In light of your edit I fixed it for you.
Wow. Christopher Hinton from 5* to being an UDFA signee
I think it should also be noted that Bryan Cook (Not that Brian) was also drafted by the Chiefs. :)
The things I found interesting is that of all the players who left U of M the most successful were two UDFA. Charbornet (Maybe Carpenter?) will probably change that statistic in the near future.
Thanks for putting this list together.
Out of curiosity, what made you decide to include all B1G UDFA signings, but not the ones that were drafted?
I started adding UDFAs of note and then kept adding until they were complete.
Didn't that inbred defensive end from msu sign someplace?
Nebraska, my goodness. 3 guys drafted and 5 guys signing UDFA contracts. They really were the best 3 - 9 team ever. Well done Scott Frost!
Also, losing 8 of that quality might spell trouble for them next year.
man JoJo Domann is going to make a roster and be an annoying ST thorn who everyone calls gritty for like 10 years.
Memories of Eddie McDoom!
McDoom dropping that pass at the end of the MSU game has really stuck with me.
I know it was raining and he was far from the only Wolverine to egregiously drop the ball that day but man, do your job. Catch the pass that’s right to your chest and Michigan may win that one in exciting fashion.
WOW! After watching those freshman year highlights, I can't wait to see how his career turns out!
Who among those listed will become as successful as future medical doctor Andrew Vastardis?
