facetious. I knew Rod was in his last year of eligibility. He should've been like his brother, Jaylon, and not been so damn stupid. Fort Wayne product and not taking advantage of his chance. Just following in the footsteps of his extended family back in Fort Wayne.

I'd considered this a moderately significant loss. Rod Smith was a "power back" and used a significant amount in goal line or 3rd down situations. His running style is constantly compared to Eddie George's and the main reason he has never made a large impact outside of this season was ball security issues. It looked like he had fixed his butter fingers this year, and was going to get more and more carries as the season goes on. Plus, he was a senior leader and a huge contributor on special teams.

Without him, the only other remaining power back on their roster is Bri'onte Dunn, which the coaching staff is not a fan of due to his attitude. Last season, Dunn demanded more playing time instead of earning it through practice. This landed Dunn squarely in Urban's doghouse and deep down the depth charts.

Hyde was suspended. It likely cost him a Heisman finalist. Hyde also was never charged, everything was dismissed, and the girl is the daughter of a police officer. Columbus is One of the top 20 largest cities in America and if you think the Columbus Police Department is some podunk Barney Fife type outfit willing to sweep things under the rug, then you better get out from behind your computer and educate yourself. One could definitely make a strong case that Urban at OSU has been more strict and consistent on discipline than Hoke has been.

The rumor-mill over at 11W says that other names overheard involved are Dontre Wilson, Marcelys Jones and Corey Smith. Would be a decent haul of suspensions if true.
