That's an interesting quote from Meyer . . . We'll see what unfolds.

ESPN is reporting failed drug test.

Meyer doesn't sugar coat.
October 27th, 2014 at 11:42 PM ^
What's he going to say?
"Rod Smith didn't come here to play school".
Wait, didn't he pretty much say that?
October 27th, 2014 at 11:44 PM ^
Glad you sorted that one out with yourself.

Blue Chip prospects. Don't they have _lue Chip prospects. Maybe it's an indiciation of how far we've fallen.

When they are scoring 42 points against our "matador defense," they are really going to miss Smith's 102 yards on 24 carries for the entire season.

I thought Rod Smith coached here a few years ago...now he is being dismissed from the Ohio St team?
Strange turn of events

Why does it always feel like someone on their team is named Rod Smith?
October 28th, 2014 at 7:56 AM ^
You still don't want to waste a given name on an inanimate object

Rod Smith was a Redshirt Senior this season.

Why can't we get one of the RS Freshmen or Sophomore's do stupid shit, too?

Shame. Fort Wayne product that people thought could be decent. Brother of Jaylon Smith.

I'd considered this a moderately significant loss. Rod Smith was a "power back" and used a significant amount in goal line or 3rd down situations. His running style is constantly compared to Eddie George's and the main reason he has never made a large impact outside of this season was ball security issues. It looked like he had fixed his butter fingers this year, and was going to get more and more carries as the season goes on. Plus, he was a senior leader and a huge contributor on special teams.
Without him, the only other remaining power back on their roster is Bri'onte Dunn, which the coaching staff is not a fan of due to his attitude. Last season, Dunn demanded more playing time instead of earning it through practice. This landed Dunn squarely in Urban's doghouse and deep down the depth charts.

Starting RB is Elliot, backups are Dunn and Ball (power backs) and Curtis Samuel (smaller, speedy back).

<rubs hands together>
Good... good... now we just need to get 21 more starters kicked off the team...
October 28th, 2014 at 5:23 AM ^
I'm not confident going up against their 2nd team either.

We lose a backup snapper and the whole team goes to shit.

If we lose Gardner, we get to replay the Minnesota game for the rest of the year.
Remember when we had such depth at the QB position that TOM FREAKIN' BRADY was third-string?

To flunk out of Ohio State?
This is a rhetorical question. I know the answer.
October 28th, 2014 at 10:11 AM ^
and they begin by finding out if the person is on the football team or not.
EDIT: ESPN is reporting its for a failed drug test. 11W may be reporting that also, but I haven't gotten up the desire to click the OP's link.
October 28th, 2014 at 9:12 AM ^
It should have said, "how stupid do you have to be to play football for Ohio State and flunk out?"
I went to Ohio State, and I can tell you that the football players do not attend the same university.

My bad. I do not believe OSU is a bad school. But in general, you have to try really hard or actually pretty stupid to flunk out of college. Tate Flunkcier is one who did a great job trying hard to flunk out of Michigan and succeeded.
October 28th, 2014 at 9:50 AM ^
Where did OP get the idea that he's not the only one?
October 28th, 2014 at 9:54 AM ^
Dismissed from an Urban Meyer team?
Did the kid literally eat a living baby with twenty witnesses and a certified notary?
October 28th, 2014 at 10:31 AM ^
OSU under Meyer has been arguably more strict than UM under Hoke.
October 28th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
sarcasm right?
CARLOS HYDE HIT A GIRL AND WAS CAUGHT ON CAMERA AND STILL PLAYED ALL OF LAST SEASON

One could argue that he's handled it better than Hoke.
