So how much longer can this go on?
DB said he would work quickly but carefully and everything seems to point to having this business wrapped up by midweek. But what if it's not? I know Tressel wasn't locked up until Jan. 17 however at some point not having an actual, you know, head coach is going to irreparably damage recruiting and thus the whole program for maybe more than just next season. So what is the true, hard-deck bottom line date to have a coach? As a card-carrying MGoLunatic I want this to be over before we all asplode.

... as long as it is not someone whose name rhymes with Brew Harp

Right now I kind of cant wait for the whole 2012 thing to happen
January 9th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
Wednesday! I don't know why but I just have a feeling that DB is waiting until after the national championship game. Get someone in line on Tuesday and make the announcement on Wednesday.
That seems to make perfect sense...therefore it probably won't happen.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
Wednesday is the first day that DB can legally make that announcement.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
Do we know this to be true? I have heard this rumor, but no backing for it
January 9th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
And if he was bound by this rule, the AD probably would have communciated it to us to stop the M faithful from freaking out.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Even though you're not claiming to be an insider, I just convinced myself you somehow know Dave Brandon's "super secret plan" and he's waiting till after the NC game to announce Guz Malzahn as the new HC
January 9th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Nary mind my post, your CJ song was the wrong one at first.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:21 PM ^
Probably until it's over
January 9th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
The sound of thousands of season ticket holders throwing away their 2011 renewal forms.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
maybe, i'll get better seats for next year!!!!
January 9th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
With a season-ending 4 game win streak and the apocalypse striking UM football, the Lions are probably pretty excited right about now. They might finally sell some tickets.
January 9th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
Fun Fact: The Cleveland Browns sucked worse than the Lions this year, for the first time in, I don't know, a decade or so.
January 9th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
Ugh...As a Browns fan this makes me feel like garbage. At this moment in time, neither football team I watch has a head football coach.

WTF does a restaurant chain CEO (not founder or owner) know about running a college althetic department/ being an AD?
Should the CEO of Appleby's become the next AD of USC or UF?

Les Miles once consumed eight large Domino's pizzas in one sitting. Hawaiian style with pineapple and Canadian bacon. That is his favorite.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
Was that after the "stapler incident"?
January 9th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
January 9th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
I made myself a large sausage and onion pizza last night (I work at a pizzeria--shame is me). It was gooooood, worth trying next time you order pizza.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
Disagree with how he's run this coaching search, fine. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more perfect candidate for AD. Played on the Football team while he was here. Ran 2 major corporations. Was a Regent at the University. Who the heck else would you like to be our Athletic Director?
January 9th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
He did such a great job the first time around (Amaker, Beilein, Rodriguez) let's bring back BM for a swan song!!!
January 9th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
Someone who had done this before.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
Can you hurry this thing up a little bit? K Thx Bye.

How many legitimate candidates are there still out there that we can drive away???
January 9th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
We didn't drive any away. Harbaugh wanted to coach in the NFL, better now than later. If Miles is offered the job he will take it, in my opinion. He wasn't offered last time and regardless of rumors, I don't think he will be offered this time either.

OSU for Tressel - 15 days. Miami for Golden - 15 days. Florida for Muschamp - 3 days although you have to wonder if Meyer gave his AD a heads up that he was retiring.
I am guessing that DB had an inkling that this was coming although so likely did those other guys. Could be 10 more days although I would think by next weekend is critical to try to have any recruits that still want to visit to come the weekend of 1/22.

to jump out of the rabbit with Lancelot and Galahad taking the French entirely by surpise. He has commenced work on a giant wooden badger recently.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
I vote Wednesday at the latest. It coincides perfectly with the Michigan v. tOSU basketball game. Whoever it is, get's to emulate Tressell and gaurantee a victory in 320 days.
I sit next to a co-worker from Wisconsin and his parting words to me on Friday were "Here's hoping for Michigan to pick a coach this weekend...for the sake of your health."
January 9th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
since it would be the first day that DB could legally make it happen anyway -- plus at the OSU game -- how fitting.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
But knowing Dave Brandon, there will be fireworks involved, lots of fireworks...
January 9th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Presser with fireworks and a flyover produced by Michael Bay.
If it is Miles I assume this is what the flyover will look like.

Good old '90s movies. They seem so quaint now, what with the World Trade Towers in the NYC skyline and all.

Monday is the MNC game. All news coverage for the day will be on the game.
Tuesday is obviously the day after the game and news coverage will be heavy on analyzing the game. That's the 11th. Coverage will still fall into the next day as well, the 12th.
In my opinion Michigan would have to make an impact selection (notably a Gruden type pick) and take all the attention away from the aftermath of the game to draw VERY positive coverage (read: excitement) of the football program.
The selection of Hoke, for example, will be met with a "yawn" by most of the media: "In college football news, Michigan reached back within their football family to select Michigan Man, Brady Hoke, as their new football coach. In other news...."
So hopefully something breaks big the next day or two or we might be looking at the 17th.
January 9th, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
that they have to wait for the MNC because gruden is doing the play by play for it (pleasepleaseplease)

January 9th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
At this rate, your productivity for January is not going to go so well. I hope you got the raise last year...
January 9th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
It's not going to happen before 11 AM on Monday.

Jan. ... maybe Jan 20-22. So DB has time to get it right. Not really sure why everyone is workng themselves into a frenzy.
