Why Les is not more.

Submitted by Bluemandew on

I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me why we would want Les Miles as our coach? With his sleazy ness with over recruiting and the rumors of his negative recruiting against Michigan I don't want him anywhere near Schembechler Hall. Can any of you give me a good reason why he should be our coach other than he played here?

As bad as Miles is on the sideline in the fourth quarter of a tight game, he's that damn good at hiring a staff.

Looks at the coordinators this guy has employed. Pelini and Chavis on D. Gundy and Fisher on O. This is a huge part of what makes a head coach successful and is the A-1 reason Rodriguez is not here today.

If Brandon is trying to talk to big names like Gruden, Stoops and even Patterson and none of them are interested, hiring a guy with Miles' credentials who wants the job is not exactly a horrible idea.

veryone acts like Les is in some league by himself with regards to tweaking the rules.  Good thing that kind of stuff only happens in the SEC and not the big 10....

"Since 2000, Ohio State has reported to the NCAA more than 375 violations -- the most of any of the 69 Football"

oh wait

To the OP, and everyone else who thinks Miles is morally unfit to coach:

Say what you want now, but if Miles becomes our coach, shut the hell up. The media will do its own thing, and there will always be critics of a hire (especially one that's not Jim Harbaugh). There is no "everyone agrees" situation, here. But if we allow this rift to continue to grow, we are completely, unmitigatedly fucked.

I will use Gary Moeller's stapler to shut you up if I have to.

I am on the fence about Miles. My post wasn't about whether you agree with me. I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass if you do or not. And yes, this is a forum for stating your opinion. My opinion is: if we don't come together behind the new coach no matter who it is, we are in for the same kind of shit we've been dealing with the last 3 years. You're more than welcome to believe what you want about any of our coaching candidates. But when one of them puts on maize and blue, we need to support him. Period.

But he's right. You can say it's just a blog, but every little bit does contribute to the conflict that made things hard last time around.

People can argue about the past all they want and speculate on why things went wrong. People can argue about why things are currently happening when in the midst of a season. But I have a big problem with people droning on all emo about how our future is fucked.

Whatever if you guys don't have a problem with Miles thats your opinion great. I guess I just don't want to listen to anymore B.S about how Michigan has higher standards than everyone else if we hire Miles.

will still be a higher standard for recruits, and a higher education standard overall.  But since you say that once Miles becomes coach that is all gone, then I would expect Dorsey, and Kinard, and all the other recruits who had trouble getting in to be immediately admitted.  Hey maybe you can take their tests for them, what do ya say?

The center of gravity on this board was vehemently anti-Les as recently as yesterday.  Now that he appears to be our next coach, anyone who dares criticize him gets neg-bombed.  I mean I'm all for support the coach once he's named, but in the meantime, the inconsistency kind of bothers me.

Is anyone anywhere ever going to satify this fanbase?   Look, there is no perfect "Michigan Man".  He doesn't exist, never has.  It was reference that Bo made up when a current basketball coach took a job at another school while employed at Michigan.

Bo wasn't one, neither was Yost according to this fanbase.  Jim Harbaugh was our best option, that ship sailed.  Why, ask MSC and LC antheir freakin' minions.  Les Miles looks like he won't happen either thanks to LC and his cronies who want their version of a head coach that has no credible reason to coach here except for the fuckin nepotism of LC.

At the rate this program is deteriorating, we won't be able to compete in the MAC as we watch all our recruits flock to other STABLE programs.  Who knows if any current players will transfer and all the while the MSM and fanbases around the country laugh at this administration and its inability to land a quality coach.

Les Miles is the best "available" choice.  Patterson is not going to leave TCU after getting them into the easiest AQ conference and Gruden wouldn't leave the booth for this mess.

If Hoke comes here, you might as well put LC in booth.  This program needs leadership and unfortunately, DB doesn't seem to know it when he sees it.

Excellent recruiter, ten wins a year in the SEC, would likely keep Denard... Stop crapping on this guy. Had we hired him instead of RichRod we would've made a BCS bowl with Mallet this year.

Mallett would be a number one pick at QB had Miles been able to install his team of coaches.

Also, there must be a strong pro-Carr contingent lurking. So let me say this to the pro-Carr's:

1. His recruiting effort was junk his last couple of years

2. Questionable play calling year after year

3. He lived off the fumes of Bo's era.

This Monday or Tuesday we will see "Les Miles names U of Michigan HC"

Mallett didn't leave Michigan because of RR.  He left because he was homesick, wasn't happy at Michigan, and Mustain transferred to USC, leaving his native Arkansas QB slot open.

Blaming RR for Mallett's transfer is one of the many Great Slanders of the last three years.

....slander is more like when RR completely blamed the entire 2007 3-9 debacle on Schaefer. Saying that RM would have stayed at UM with a coach with a more suitable offense is just playing the percentages....certainly falls short of slander.

Have you researched the "oversigning" issue by Les yourself, or are you repeating a known "fact"?  Were you there when the supposed sleazy transactions took place, or are you taking someone's (bitter) words for true?

Rumors are a dime a dozen.  Hell, according to rumors, we already have 3 coaches next year.  According to rumors, Lloyd Carr is the devil incarnate, sabotaging his enemies regardless of the cost to Michigan, the school he loves (let me say that, while I never believed LC to be a GREAT football coach, I have always believed him to be a great MAN and a GOOD coach, one that I'd be honored to have my son play for).

We need a winnner; Les is a proven winner.  We need someone that wants to be here; if LM takes the job, it's because he's coming home and wants to turn us around.  We need a big name that can turn around our defense and our recruiting class; LSU has been known for its defense under LM, and has had very highly regarded recruiting classes.  We need a coach that can, and will, beat OSU (and MSU and ND); LM has shown that he can beat OSU.

Above all else, the new coach needs the support of the UM faithful.  RR never had that (even before he lost a game).  I am not saying the coach of UM is above reproach; that if he comes in and oversigns; or treats poorly the boys that come to Michigan to play footballl and become men, true Michigan Men; or cheats in other ways implied by the rumors about LM, that he should be supported without question.  I am saying that those that dislike him, for whatever reason, that make up (or believe without substantiation) rumors about such transgressions, need to look themselves in the mirror, and ask:  "am I a Michgan Man?"

Yep.  Also a good place to find facts: The Detroit Free Press.  The Ann Arbor News.  AnnArbor.com.

I mean, no way a news organization would spin something to sell papers or generate ad revenue.  No way.

And, ESPN reported that LM was our new coach in 2007 with no basis; and ESPN reported that JH was our new coach in 2011 with no basis; and Freep reported that UM exceeded the practice limits BY A FACTOR OF 2 with no basis; or that ...

many empty suites and more and more empty seats in the big house until he proves he can win 10 games in a season.  I wanted RR gone for the losing, the defense and presser BS, but not look stupid across the country and then hire a guy with less than half his credentials.  This program is beginning to resemble a fiasco.  Both coaching "searches" are way past that nopw.  The first was Bill Martin being a buffoon and this one looks for all intents and purposes to be DB as a shill for LC.

If DB is one thing, he's a good story teller.  Just wait until he introduces Hoke at the presser, he'll say something like "we have found the best coach in country to uphold the standards of Michigan, and he's a Michigan Man."   BS

I can't wait until Drew Sharp asks, "is this the best you could do, with a 'national search?"
