Disciplinary/Curfew Issue UPDATE-Mike Williams Sent Home
Apparently there have been some curfew issues because the team was moved out of the hotel they were in all week to a more remote location (I believe on Amelia Island) last night. Only reason I know is because my whole family was staying at the new hotel and when they came back from being out yesterday the team busses pulled up right behind and when my father saw one of the coaches who he goes to church with, he was told about the issues of staying where they were. Has anyone heard any follow up about any issues or suspensions because of violations of team rules?
FA Edit: Via freep twitter,
Michigan safety Mike Williams was sent home from the trip for a curfew violation.

NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.

I saw RichRod on Mgoblue.com say that he was going to take the travel team to a more remote location for the night before the game. This was pre-planned, with nothing sinister about it.

NOt uncommon. I know this. I phrased the original post poorly. Like I said, one of the coaches said there were some curfew problems. Anyone heard anything about players not being allowed to start.

No bad news, only good Chi....

I also heard that 5 Buckeyes are suspended to start next year. Has anybody else heard this?
Curse your speedy edit.

need to be paid for with Barwis back in A2. At some point, there has to be room for young players to be young players. If no laws were broken, don't punish the team.

This happens all the time. From Alpine Skiing to Wrestling, from JUCO to BigTen teams. Kids get caught coming back after curfew, usually a group of three. Not a problem, not a distraction.

A group of three?

I know Mike Williams got sent home for some disciplinary reason. (per premium scout) But that was a day or two ago.

did not email six papers and four take home tests in to his professors. Guess what happened?

If you're looking to send your grades to the crapper, that's a pretty good way to do it (if what you say is true).

Bumped due to Mike Williams bit.

College kids like to stay up late and go out???
January 1st, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
They're different than regular college kids during the school year. These guys are preparing for their first bowl game in three years and some guys are going out. Not good
January 1st, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
You obviously aren't friends (or weren't friends if your older) with any football players. They're kids just like the rest of the students....
I'm not saying its right to be out past curfew, but its also not a surprise.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
Actually, I played college football. Thanks though
January 1st, 2011 at 11:23 AM ^
Plus, I'm talking about the position they're in right now. I'm not talking about during the school year, I'm talking about them breaking curfew during the week of their bowl game. I'd put money on some kids going out/drinking more as football players then some regular students.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:22 AM ^
Yeah, not an issue of right or wrong... I just wish they were a little more aware of their situation. This is not the time to be staying out late. There are plenty of nights when they can stay out as late as they want, why do it the night before a bowl game when they know the consequences.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:03 AM ^
Not during bowl week when they're representing the University of Michigan.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
Dude, please.
Did you ever drink on a bowl trip (i'm assuming you were/are, you know, a Bando)? Do you know anyone who did? I hear what you're saying but it's absurdly idealized. I don't believe you're that naive.
Williams got busted (apparently) and was, appropriately, sent home. End of story.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:46 PM ^
I didn't. And didn't know a lot of people who did on bowl trip, although it happened.
The point is there are rules, you abide by them, and when you don't, there's consequences. There's no making excuses for this.
January 1st, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
The point here is that college kids are going to act like college kids, whether they are representing M or not. It's naive to expect otherwise.
No one is making excuses.
Also, bear in mind we're talking about curfew. My presumption is that he was drinking because I can't imagine that breaking curfew warrants being sent home, but if that was the penalty the coaches though were appropriate, I cool with it. Regardless of that, breaking curfew just isn't the crime against Michigan you're making it out to be.
Yes, it was dumb and he deserved the consequences laid out for him.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:16 AM ^
... academic ineligibility or curfew problems would not be an issue. All the players would be not only in good standing but would know how to tackle and win games.
Go BLUE! BEAT MSU!

go ahead and stick with if Harbaugh were the coach in this situation....
Also, is that a dirty work reference? If so, +1 to you...

Mike Williams probably wouldn't have played, anyway. He's been out the entire year with multiple concussions. He's still a part of the team, but hey...this must have been a tough year for him.

and try to sneak in the side window with a manequin in the bed. We have all done this at home, at summer camp, in college, or me just recently out with my buddies.
We all get caught and have to pay the price. Sometimes the price is worth it (a swat on the butt from dad however you got to "feel up" Suzzy down the street) and sometimes the price is not worth it like Mike Williams on a Michigan Bowl trip gets sent home, and me sleeping on the couch for a week and no "nude wrestling" (definately not worth it).
Kids will be kids at any age.

Mike Williams might not be getting a 5th year - but that was likely already the case. I hope they get him a medical scholarship so he can finish out his degree if he needs it.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
this would be a real actual medical scholarship used on someone with an actual medical issue. And yes, getting the degree is the most important part of any program, IMO. Most of these kids won't make the NFL (how many do anyways?) so getting that degree will set him up for life.
