Thursday Night NCAAFB: Nebraska vs K-State

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

7:30p, ESPN/ESPN3

Taylor Martinez, and the #4 rushing team in the nation host a K-State team that, much like Indiana was prior to last wek, is undefeated after playing a hosts of near no ones.

K-State isn't all that bad. They do have wins over UCLA which looks better now than it did in week one. They also have a win over UCF, who for those who watched Wednesday night, looks like a half way decent win. They also have a win over Iowa State in the Big 12, which, that may mean nothing, but hey, Iowa State beat Texas Tech?

K-State fans are also pushing for running back Daniel Thomas for Heisman consideration. He currently has 628 yards on 105 carries (6.0 average). That puts him 5th in the nation rushing, just 277 yards behind whoever that guy leading the nation in rushing is.

Yes, that guy.

Anyway, over on the Nebraska side, we've got defense and we've got the vaunted Nebraska option. No, not the old option of Eric Crouch or past Nebraska QBs. I'm talking the zone read with freshman Taylor Martinez. The guy isn't any Denard, but he's plenty fast. Nebraska is currently #4 in rushing yards per game (309/game). The Huskers currently are 11th in points per game at 40. More astounding is that they also have a top 10 defense in terms of points allowed (#7 at 12.8 per game).

The line is Nebraska by 10.5, 11, or 11.5 depending your source. O/U is around 47 or 47.5. I'm liking Nebraska to cover and taking the under. Both the running games should slow the pace down a bit, at least if K-State can stay on the field long enough to do it.

Discussion goes here.

Thought to ponder: is cheering for Nebraska fine? They're going to call us a rival in 10 years. Should I get the hate started already?

Martinez has a helluva first step.  Went from 0 to full speed in no time on that read option there.

I'd have my linemen always keying in on him, make him hand it off or get lit up.

Every time thy say T Magic I throw up in my mouth a little bit.  He's good but I already don't like him just because of his nickname.  Yes,  I am that shallow about our opponents, or future opponents.

Playing Nebraska the next few years is gonna be interesting.  Both defenses face a similar quarterback everyday in practice so will they be more effective than other teams at containing them?

You know espn is gonna blow up this comparison for the next few years once Nebraska joins the Big 10 with the obvious winner in this duel being the man with the dreads wearing the maize n blue,

When did this Jenn Brown chick start doing sideline reporting? They pushed her on Mike and Mike this morning, then on Sportscenter before the game. They trying to make her the next Erin Andrews?

Denard making the halftime show on Thursday night football!!  Will he really win the Heisman if we go 6-6...7-5???  Who cares we just have to take these games one day at a time and not get ahead of ourselves.   Which is the hardest thing to do when you have the keys to a red  458 Italia Ferarii and can't wait to see how she will perform!!!

Lou Holtz at halftime: "can you imagine how many yard Denard would get if he got to play against his own defense?" LOL...sad, but funny.

I can't believe I am complimented Lou Holtz, but how right he is with that one.

Lou holtz at halftime = OMG FACEPALM. Id link a pic, but I'm on my phone (yeah for watching tv on my phone! HTC evo FTW!) Dr Lou was the most ludicrous thing ever. And his and mark mays banter about pitt-nd was just sad.

It's actually pretty cool to watch a player like Martinez without having some sort of emotional attachment to the game. Making some great plays.

What is a slippery rock?

"The school and its football team have gotten all sorts of national publicity because some people thought Slippery Rock was a funny name. According to school lore, the attention started in 1936, when there was a dispute as to whether Pittsburgh or Minnesota should be ranked No. 1. A sports writer used comparative results to show that Slippery Rock should be No. 1.  The logic went like this : Slippery Rock beat Westminster, which beat West Virginia Wesleyan, which beat Duqusne, which beat Pitt, which beat Notre Dame, which beat Northwestern, which beat Minnesota."

If they keep scoring so fast they'll get behind too far in TOP, and they'll lose the game for sure.  Isn't that the rule?

Nebraska is looking like a great addition to the B10.

I look at Nebraska's schedule and see no reason they shouldn't be undefeated going into the Big 12 title game. People think we have an easy schedule...

Nebraska's schedule is a joke.  Non-conference schedule consists of Western Kentucky, Idaho, South Dakota State and Washington.

Texas is unranked and they don't play Oklahoma.  They don't play any top ten teams.  As of right now, they play just two ranked teams all year.  #22 Oklahoma State and #24 Missouri.

That's a painfully bad schedule.  They won't be tested until the Big 12 Championship game.

Love the announcers in the game mentioning that Greg Jones could keep up with Denard - if MSU seriously expects to shadow Denard with their best LB, then by all means go for it.  That will just leave masive holes open in the middle for the slants and screens that RR's offense can exploit.

t magic is pretty impressive not bad for a three star jk that's a shot at all you star gazers out there lol. I guess this game is also just another example that also disproves the notion of scoring too quickly. if your defense can shut the opponent out then your offense just gets the ball back and keeps scoringi!
