04/11/2017 - 3:08pm Artistry with words

Brian, you are the George Carlin of sports writing. George's ability to create a tapestry, a Picasso, with words was legendary. His orations had depth, character, emotion - they painted vivid images in your mind. You have that gift. Thanks for this.

09/27/2011 - 2:21pm Seven Nation Army

Playing Seven Nation Army once or twice a game is tolerable, although it makes us generic.

Playing Seven Nation Army before every big play is way too much.

Also, I want a t-shirt that says: "Put those damn keys away, get on your feet, and yell your fool head off!"  I know the saying isn't catchy, and I know that jingling your keys is nice and traditional, but "Key Play" needs to go.

01/17/2011 - 1:09pm I like Tabasco, but prefer...

Melinda's XXXX Reserve or Ass Kickin' Cajun

Pretty funny...  Looks like the first thing they did was decapitate the thing.  Beautiful little beasts, they are!

11/24/2010 - 10:56am Zoo Wolverines To Tear Into Buckeye

I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I figured this would be the best place for it.  Sorry if it's a double-post.

Two wolverines are getting the chance to tear into a piñata designed to resemble the Ohio State University mascot a few days before the annual college football rivalry between that school and the University of Michigan.

The Detroit Zoo said the treat-filled piñata would be given to Luka and Jigi Wednesday morning at the zoo in Royal Oak.

Zoo officials use such piñata to enrich environments and make them more engaging to the animals.

11/23/2010 - 8:25am Absolutely Amazing

I'm in awe.  The only shame is that due to the short week I won't be able to show this off at work for as long.  I can't wait to show it to my tOSU fan/boss.

I too would pay money for this one.

11/21/2010 - 8:21am My thoughts from this game

- Wisconsin fans have got to be the nicest fans around.  I had quite a few near me in the stands, and all I heard them do was cheer for their team, relatively quietly I might add.  Only once did the Wisconsin fans start a "let's go Badgers" chant that I heard.  This team is 10-1, they've got a right to some swagger, but they had none.  They were almost too quiet.

- I also had an "UNACCEPTABLE" Mich fan behind me.  He started screaming himself hoarse just before the half.  Actually, he was kind of entertaining.

- Booing at end of halftime -  I can't imagine that had a very good impact on the visiting recruits.  That said, I hate RRs decision not to call TO.  You can't play the game with a goal "not to screw up".  Be aggressive, let Denard chuck a few downfield and see what happens.

- Is it just me, or was there less RAWK music?  I remember specifically one time in the 3rd on a critical 3rd down where I expected crap from the speakers, and instead they let the band play The Victors.  Please do more of this.

- I loved the first onside kick call, even though we didn't recover it.

- I'm getting tired of hearing "they kick great in practice."

- Keep RR, send GERG on his merry way.

- I bet we beat tOSU next week.

11/05/2010 - 2:09pm We need a new shirt

For a while I've had a shirt design in mind.  The image is one of a hand jingling a set of keys - it has a red circle with a line through it.  The text reads:

"Put away those damn keys, get off your ass, and yell your fool head off!"

11/05/2010 - 1:53pm That was awesome and epic

Brilliant - thank you for the well needed humor!

10/25/2010 - 12:11pm Off Tackle Empire also has us to the Gator

Off Tackle Empire also has Michigan to the Gator bowl, against the Gators.  It would be fun to trounce Meyer again.

10/07/2010 - 9:51pm Nebraska better watch it...

If they keep scoring so fast they'll get behind too far in TOP, and they'll lose the game for sure.  Isn't that the rule?

Nebraska is looking like a great addition to the B10.

10/05/2010 - 4:18pm Thank you - I'd forgotten about this

Thanks for posting, I had forgotten about this.  I believe it tracks your vote by IP, so you can probably vote from different computers each day.  I'll vote daily from work and home.

09/22/2010 - 2:19pm By age 8 your son will probably be able to watch the whole game

I'd imagine that by age 8 your son will probably be interested in the whole game.  I've been bringing my two daughters since they were around 3 (they're now 5 and 6), and we always stay for the whole game.

Tailgating: If you can tailgate with some friends that have kids his age that will probably help.  We tailgate with a group that has a few other kids and my girls are always excited to wear their cheerleader outfits and see their friends.

Walking to/from: Catching the band and/or the Victory Walk before the game will probably be a highlight.  We walk up Hoover to Greene/Keech street and the mass of students is always fun for the kids.

Before the game: I always get in about an hour before kickoff.  I talk up the Barwis Circle of Death to the kids, and they're now fans of Barwis, since I told them that he's a proponent of Chocolate Milk.  I think their favorite time of the whole day is seeing the MMB pre-game show.  Just before kickoff try to get one last bathroom trip out of the way.

During the game: My kids are just starting to get into the game itself, but just barely.  I started describing exactly what was happening each play and my older daughter seemed to appreciate that.  Eventually, though, their interest fades away some.  The cheers during TV timeouts help keep them in it, but sometimes it helps to get them out of the seats and walk around the stadium a bit.  One year on a nice day one of my kids spent 20 minutes rolling down the grass hill on the north side of the stadium with a bunch of other kids.  I listened to the game on my ear-radio.  Snacks are also a way to keep them up and interested, especially the kettle-korn and frozen variety.  Try not to miss the wave in the 3rd quarter.

Having more than one parent helps, but if you're by yourself expect to miss some of the game (bathroom runs, getting food, dealing with some boredom, etc...).

09/08/2010 - 1:30pm He can catch his own Hail Mary

Denard is so fast . . . he can catch his own Hail Mary TD pass.

Denard is so fast . . . he ain't got time for this post.

Denard is so fast . . . he can knock Charlie Weis over with his sonic boom (I miss that big guy...).

Denard is so fast . . . he makes Michigan color analysts say "Whoop!"

Denard is so fast . . . there were actually three flyovers last Saturday - two were by plane, one was by Denard.

Denard is so fast . . . in three years he's going to turn blue and maize into $green$.

09/02/2010 - 9:06am That's exactly what I thought of

That's exactly what I thought of when I read that article - that idiot Boren.

Elliott watched his teammates surround his brother, watched the Michigan family adopt him. It almost overwhelms him.

This is a guy who is currently an OSU (grad) student and we've adopted him as our own.  "No family values" my ass.

08/31/2010 - 3:36pm I'm in

Now the question is: Will I ever stop being a homer and pick against Michigan when it's obvious they will lose?  (Here's to hoping that it will never be obvious that they lose!)

08/20/2010 - 1:00pm Are you able to walk on the field?

Are you able to walk on the field or see any other interesting parts of the stadium (locker rooms, walk the tunnel, etc...)?  I'm interested in bringing my daughters, and while I doubt they'd be interested in waiting in line for hours to see the players, both they and I would love to walk out the tunnel and see the new turf.
