Is Harbaugh planting seeds?
He was quoted (Detroit News article) as crediting Michigan and Bo for his coaching success. Is this a harmless statement of fact, or is he making an overture that he would be eventually open to a Michigan offer?
Hmmm?

Even his negative comments made me think that. If RR is successful this year, Harbaugh may be out in the cold for much of his career.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:49 AM ^
while it's always nice to have a Plan B, I don't think RR is going anywhere for a long long time.

was married, but I suppose its possible. Women love a hot commodity, and he may want to add some future branches to the Harbaugh coaching tree.

one of the coaches wives again? Oh wait, wrong former Wolverine, prodigal son grapevine....

The story goes that Les Miles was never offered the head coaching job at Michigan because he had an affair with Gary Moeller's wife in the 90s. Apparently, after this, Les left the University and Moeller started drinking, leading to his disorderly conduct arrest and subsequent resignation. Lloyd and Bo knew what had happened, and Lloyd made sure that Bill Martin didn't offer Les the job after he retired.
Personally, I think this is a load of crap, but that's the story.

It's a good one, but i'm not sure how it's looked upon to be posted here.
I'll let someone with more MGoClout/Experience decide whether to post about it or not.

Harbaugh will be in the NFL next year because the Michigan job will not be open.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:57 AM ^
Harbaugh is going to need to a lot more than a few comments to win over fans. We have a great coach who is finally getting his team. It will take a lot to go wrong to go to Harbaugh after what we have been through.

Epid class is boring.
(I just noticed he has a mullet/rattail going on.)

I think I'm sitting in your same class right now. Patho?

I'm in CVD, Epid 604 with Prof. Lisabeth. It's interesting at times, but I'm just not in the mood today. Also, I'm an EHS student so this Epid stuff is a bit over my head,
September 29th, 2010 at 9:27 AM ^
Ah, I'm an Epid student in an EHS class right now actually (EHS 513). Dr. Lisabeth is my academic advisor though.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:32 AM ^
Ah, well you, sir, are lucky (if you are a sir), because I find Dr. Lisabeth to be very, very easy on the eyes ;)
Not gonna lie, she's part of the reason I stuck with this course.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:38 AM ^
Yeah, Epid is loaded with PILFs. Not only is there Dr. Lisabeth, but there's also Dr. Aiello...

I've seen these "glasses" pop up more frequently now.
Can someone help me out? What is their significance, besides providing me with humor?

I'm just gonna put this out there... you have been en fuego in this thread.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:10 PM ^
Heh, it's been a very slow day of classes. I'm sure the people behind me in lecture wondered what I was doing while I made the disappointed eyed highlander in mspaint instead of paying attention to occupational causes of cancer.

Seeing as every coach is 1 bad year away from getting canned (see Richt, Mark)
They have to plant as many seeds as possible
September 29th, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
Perhaps Harbaugh wants to make peace with his alma mater. Perhaps he heard people say he was putting down Bo with the comments he made. (I have a hunch he was horrified by that.) Who knows? As he was one of my very favorite players of all time, I wish him great success as a coach. But we have a coach. A damned good one. Can we just drop this line of thinking?
September 29th, 2010 at 9:00 AM ^
He's still rough around the edges (IMO, anyway). This might be viewed as part of his "maturation" process. Just trying to mend fences, maybe ... even if he doesn't pursue anything at Michigan, that will serve him well.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^

I recall he planted a fair amount of seed when he was a student.
HAY-Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
September 29th, 2010 at 9:11 AM ^
Everybody wants a piece of this action.
I have no idea whether that's what he's doing, but I don't think he'll be coaching here any time soon regardless.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:13 AM ^
I guess I've missed most of the Harbaugh thread saturation quotient on this blog. Didn't realize I was picking at scabs here, guys.
Apologies. Just thought Harbaugh's comments were noteworthy.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:00 AM ^
This is a forum to discuss Michigan football, and those tangential topics related to Michigan football.
I see no problem with you posting a comment (1) about Michigan, (2) by a former standout M player, (3) who has reputedly always wanted to coach at Michigan.
Now, I do think that no matter how many seeds he plants, Harbaugh will not be our coach because RR will show over the course of this season and next that he is here to stay. But,it is still a good thing when a former star mends fences with Michigan.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:14 AM ^
If he's planting tomato seeds that would be telling.
Personally I'm fine with him mending fences and nosing around for a job here. It's comforting to know we have options. I remember the dark days after we bungled the Les Miles contract and were flailing around until RR contacted us. I want RR to succeed and stay but I like having a solid Plan B.
(The first year we win a BCS Bowl I'm mailing a flower arrangement to the WVU AD with a little "Thanks for pissing RR off" card. I'm classy like that.)

Here is an old article about the comments. Granted it was 3 years ago, but it seems like things were pretty rigid. I don't know if a couple shoutouts in an interview can bring him back.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:39 AM ^
When he took the job of coaching the football team of John Pollack's alma mater, he straightforwardly said it was his dream job, and that Palo Alto was the place he had fondest memories of. Why would he soil himself by coming back here? It's clear it would be a step down for him.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:42 AM ^
Harbaugh is an arrogant jerk. Stanford can keep him.
RR is much more genuine. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see there is a DIRECT CORRELATION between the quality person the head coach is and the quality of the kids he brings in. This group of M players is perhaps the most likeable in the history of the program. Coincidence?
No.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:01 AM ^
September 29th, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
Bo was an arrogant jerk? B/c he brought in Harbaugh, the arrogant jerk. Or maybe RR is academically challenged? B/c he brings in kids that don't qualify?
I happened to think a lot of the teams in the 90s were likable as well. I think I'd put that on the players, not on the coach.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
my logic was perhaps a bit flawed. But Bo didn't just have JH, he had a bunch a great kids. The typical quality of the kids under Bo, Mo, and LC are a CREDIT to those coaches as being good people.
But look at Jimmy Johnson at Miami, or Switzer at Oklahoma. Many times there IS a correlation between cheating scumbags and the quality of people they bring into their program.
I'm just trying to say something nice about RR.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
From my personal experience with Harbs, I wholeheartedly disagree with you.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:47 AM ^
Many people desire the Michigan head coaching job. And a lot of people want to become Pope. But since the turn of the last century, there have been eleven head coaches at Michigan, and ten Popes. So, I guess what I'm saying is that some jobs you don't simply get by expressing interest.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:52 AM ^
For the Pope comparison. Seeing how RR just about has this team on track for national domination once again, I'd say the numbers will be even at 11 a piece in due time.

I'm sorry, but where was Harbaugh when we were out looking for a coach a few years back? He could have sucked-up a bit and made nice and been in consideration. But that didn't happen. Now that he sees Michigan on its way back, he figures he would just drop a little hint that he would be interested. That ship has sailed.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:14 AM ^
Harbaugh wasn't even on the radar when Michigan was looking for a coach. He had been at Stanford 1 year. He wasn't about to pull a Kiffin and come to Michigan, and no offense to him, but at that time I don't think he had the resume to get the job anyway. Had Carr waited a couple years to retire, then maybe you'd have a point.
