2010 Michigan (and NCAA) Football Fact/Fiction
An aggregate for every baseless prediction regarding the Michigan Wolverines and NCAA football in general:
I will pose a query, the next person responds fact or fiction with a little exposition on their answer and then posts a query of their own. The subsequent post follows the trend.
Fact or fiction: Michigan will be 4-4 or better in Big-10 play this year.
Fact
Fact or fiction: Ohio State is the spawn of Satan.
That is the ASU Sun Devils for obvious reasons. Maybe the WKU Big Red as well.
Fact or Fiction: It is definitely the off-season with stuff like this.
WKU are the hilltoppers so fiction to that one?
Fact - It goes without explanation.
Fact or Fiction: Roundtree leads the BigTen in receptions.
Martavious Odoms will prove to be equally valuable and will divide some of the pass receptions with #12
Fact or Fiction: Ezeh and Mouton find themselves splitting time with Moundros and Demens in the 2010 season.
Mouton and Ezeh are going to impress this year.
Fact of Fiction: Denard establishes himself as the starter early and keeps it.
Robinson's confidence soars after dominating Notre Dame and never looks back.
Fact or Fiction:
Michigan has 2+ players on the All-Big Ten team.
After Michigan's running game is in the top 2 of the Big Ten this year, two Offensive Lineman alone (Schilling and Molk) will be on either the first or second teams.
Fact or Fiction:
Michigan will be undefeated 5 games into the 2010 football season.
Fiction
Fact or Fiction, a freshman (true or redshirt) running back finishes either first or second on the team in rushing.
I think it'll be more like 75% Tate, although I expect Denard to be on the field more than half the time.
(edit: Fiction to redwings8831 as well. Shaw's your man this year, in my opinion.)
FoF: One of the running backs breaks the 750 yard mark.
Someone will break out, I think we have alot of unproven talent at rb that will break out this year.
FoF: Lindsey Lohan will OD this year? Wait thought I was on the TMZ website. UM will finish in the top 25 at the end of the year.
Fiction: They'll be a top 40 team but won't break the top 25
Fact or Fiction: Shoelace will get equal or more snaps than Tate at QB.
I have a hard time believing that Ezeh and Mouton are just going to start "getting it" and become a top LB corp.
Fact or Fiction:
JT Floyd becomes the unsung hero of this years defense because of his improved CB play?
Fiction - I just don't think JT Floyd has the athletic ability to get it done without superior experience and technique.
Fact or Fiction - By the end of the year, Woolfolk and Turner are the starting CB's
An 8-4 record, and an upset against Wisconsin in the second-to-last week of the season keeps Michigan in the 20-25 range, and a bowl victory over a solid opponent cements it.
FoF: Michigan, and an opponent, reach a combined 1,000 yards of total offense this year during at least one game.
Fact: it'll be the Buckeyes
Fact or Fiction: Denard passes for more yards than Tate
Denard improves greatly but Tate is still number 1 in passing.
FoF: A freshman will define the season.
QB play will define the season. We're aware of the issues on the defense, so Michigan is going to have to score points. The QB's will either reduce turnovers and increase production in Big 10 play, or their struggles continue. Forcier and DRob are the difference in being an average team, or a much improved team.
FoF:
Michigan wins at least 2 of 3 between MSU, ND, and OSU
MSU and ND for sure. OSU is still a year away as much as it pains me to say. We should have beat msu last year. Don't tell me nd got better over the year after losing what they did with a coaching transition on top on it. Nothing against BK I think he's a great coach but I'll be surprised if they break .500.
FoF: RR is the coach of the 2011 team.
RichRod will get 8-9 wins (including a bowl) and give himself a chance to cool down his seat in 2011.
Fact or Fiction: A True Freshman will start in one of the 5 secondary positions.
Fact: Cullen Christian will start in the 4th week and lock down the side opposite of Troy Woolfolk.
Fact or Fiction: Will Campbell is going to have a major impact on the Defensive Line?
Fiction: Campbell doesnt get off the line to good, and he tends to stand straight up
FoF: Cam Gordon will play in the fall as good as he did this spring
Fiction: You hear about these "dominating" spring performers that don't do jack in the actual season and Gordon just doesn't seem to be like the kind of safety we need.
Fact or Fiction: Tay Odoms returns back to his freshman form...
Cambell will turn into a dominating NT by the end of the season!
Fact or Fiction: Will one of our backs run for over 1,000 yds?
We wont have a back run for over 1000yds. I think we will platoon at the start of the year which will keep us from a rb with 1000yds. Not saying its impossible but its unlikely.
FoF: Mealer leads the team out of the tunnel against uconn and 70% of the UM crowd doesnt have a clue who he is. (which is really really sad) but 100% know UM is facing sanctions.
its a fact that Brock walking onto that field will be the biggest accomplishment Michigan Stadium has ever witnessed. And the 30% that knows what's going will be in tears.
Cox, Smith, and Co will develop into quite a tandem. Smith may get close, but not break it.
Fact or Fiction: The defense will finally start to make sure tackles.
Doubt we get as many sacks, but i think the defense gives up less yards.
FoF: Tate is the first string punter.
up Mgopoints its pretty much a huge negbang which I dont really care, but how do you check who negged you?
I'm actually really curious on whoever negged me and there opinion on which they negged me. Was it because I thought the D would give up less yards, or that I think Tate is our best punter?
Also, we just signed the best high school punter in the country.
Tate was NOT the best HS punter in the country. Or near it.
Hang'erup is going to be the best punter.
I negged because you didn't use the reply button and I have no idea who's question you were responding to.
That's how this FoF thing works. You are replying to the post above. Reply button is just if you have something to add to the previous. Otherwise by the time we got to the bottom the replies would be all the way on the right of the screen.
Hopefully you were just trolling though?
Fact or fiction: Denard passes for more than 1,000 yards this season?
Fiction: Tate is still the better passer, but Denard will be much more effective this year.
FoF: This actually turned out to be a pretty good thread.
Hate to sound cynical, but no game is a lock other than maybe Illinois.
We barely beat Indiana last year and go to their stadium this year where they played OSU tough for a half or three quarters last year.
Name the last time we have stopped an offense with an accurate QB, and MSU has one.
Name the last time we were able to stop Purdue's offense. We play at their house.
Iowa and Wisc are both top teams in the Big Ten, although Iowa may be overrated a bit. Wisc was the only team other than PSU to really pound us last year (and should have beaten OSU) and they return something like 19 of 22 starters.
PSU has suffered a drop-off but they had no problem with us last year and we play them at their house.
OSU will be much better on offense than last year, and Tressel always loosnes up the play calling in the horseshoe. Pryor to Posey will probably connect deep at least once.
You don't sound cynical; you ARE supremely cynical!
Fact or Fiction: Michigan will have a candidate to wear the #1 jersey by the end of the year
There is no such thing as a "lock" anymore when it comes to wins against certain opponents.
I think Roundtree becomes our best offensive weapon. He will be used similarly to how he was used in the spring game(end around, bubble screen, and usual throws over the middle) and be an all Big 10 performer.
FoF: UM will be ranked in the top 25 at some point in the upcoming season.
Fact or Fiction: Michigan will have a candidate to wear the #1 jersey by the end of the year
Fiction. I don't think the vertical game is just there yet. Although, I guess Roundtree is probably the closest by the end of the year to that mythical #1 status.
FoF: A team other than Ohio State wins the Big-10 this year.
Fact. Michigan beats Ohio State in Columbus by a final score of 38-35 to win the Big 10.
(Hey, I can dream, right?)
Fiction: The score is actually 31 - 13
Fact: Michigan beats osu but not the Rose Bowl Berth...
They go on to win the crystal trophy in January.
FoF? Who dreams the best dreams?
Wisconsin beats OSU @ Camp Randall at night to win the Big Ten.
FoF- Death Roh's sack total is 10 for the season.
I'm not answering this, but does anyone know if Gallon is supposed to play this year? Would he be behind Odoms and Roundtree in the slot?
he was in the running for punt and possibly kick return. As for WR, maybe if RR starts to go with more 4 WR sets and Roundtree is playing on the outside. But Terrence Robinson maybe pushing for playing time also.
Fiction. Ricardo Miller leads all freshamn with 10 receptions.
ForF: The 2012 recruiting class ranks top 10
