Your unpopular Michigan opinions?
This can be any sport.
-I think we should keep the all-Maize as a permanent alternate in Football and wear them for big non-rivalry games (PSU, UW etc.)
-The endzones being green is stupid. Make it Blue and step into the 21st century. Almost everyone has colored endzones and they look great.
-The renovations have made The Big House feel smaller and boxed in. Not a fan. They look great don't get me wrong, but I miss the stadium I first walked into as a 9 year old kid.
-The holier-than-thou degree waver fans are obnoxious, thinking because they went to the school they're higher than non-grad fans on the totem pole.
- "Wins and losses is just a statistic" is a more absurd quote than "we aint come to play school"
- Owning a Brady Michigan jersey because of what he has done in the NFL makes little to no sense
- One night game every 4-5 years is the right amount
- John O'Korn was the most NFL ready QB in this years draft
"Wins and losses is just a statistic" is a more absurd quote than "we aint come to play school"
Sure, but way less funny.
I never cared for Ufer's over-the-top broadcast style.
As long as Ohio state is in Ohio it will always have better recruits to pick from
Dantonio is the best coach in the big ten
They should re do the divisions and separate Michigan and Ohio state. This is not a rivalry anymore it’s a joke and Michigan will win 1 out of ten years if it remains the same.
As long as the game remains they should move it to a night game so that I don’t have to be so angry every year putting up the Christmas lights
I don't get how you could say Dantonio is better than Urban Meyer. I get that Dantonio maximizes talents but Meyer has took 3 seperate programs to greatness and the numbers speak to itself to prove him and Saban are on a whole new level. I get he has all the talent in the world but its part of being a great college coach is recruiting that talent and sustaining it.
Harbuagh's need for a transfer QB this year is a massive failure on him as a coach. RS freshman and sophmores and even true freshman are winning jobs and football games all over the country. If you need a good 5th year QB to make your offense work you need to fix your offense. Since that likely isn't the problem you need to recruit better and develop the talent better. One of Peters or McCaffrey should be the starter this season if Harbaugh had done his job better.
It's fair enough as an unpopular opinion.
But for all we know, Michigan Mcaffrey or Peters (less likely since we've seen him) could be legit and lead us to 10+ wins.
Passing on a talent like Shea would be silly for any program. It'd be purely based on hubris.
After Yost, Crisler, and Carr (Moe would have been better too). Bo benefits greatly from being the first successful Michigan coach to be on TV all the time and beat up on a mediocre conference.
the fans here that constantly banged the "fire drevno' drum last season are miserable, unhappy assholes that will be bitching just as loudly about something completely new this season.
their lives aren't full unless they're unhappy and making sure everyone knows it...and, preferably, making everyone around them feel the same way.
If you have a degree from another school, and never went to Michigan (or went to Michigan but you did your undergraduate elsewhere), and your alma mater plays Michigan, root for your damn alma mater.
That said, Go Orange and then Go Blue.
And having a degree from both means I can root for both.
I agree with the root for both. But I went to Iowa and was a Michigan fan since I was 4. Can't root against Michigan for a place I went to school out of convenience.
- In the same vein, Michigan fans are over hyping Shea Patterson. He will be good but some fans expectations are top 5 QB nationally.
- Michigan football recruiting is not in a good place right now. The 2018/19 classes, while not atrocious, cannot be classified as anything better than below average. You can’t judge the 2019 class right now but projecting ahead doesn’t give much optimism they will stay top 15.
- JB shouldn’t even attempt to recruit top 10 one and done players. Not worth the hassle and his system is so complex that you don’t see the true player until his second year at Michigan, when the one and done will already be gone. The sweet spot is 25-100 ranked (or even lower).
- The play design and sequencing last year on offense is just as much to blame as youth and Drevno.
- Michigan should stop using Tom Brady so much as an example of “ProBlue”. He had tons of ill-will while he was here and still has mixed feelings about Michigan.
I’ve probably been described as a negative fan, but I more prefer the term realist. I probably have a few more, but those are the hot button issues I have.
Urban Meyer is the best coach in the B1G and the second best coach in the NCAA.
Because of their superior local talent and their head coach, Michigan fans shouldn't expect to win half of the games against OSU.
If I was a recruit I would pick a school that didn't have Michigan winters.
Go back to natural grass in the Big House, it made the games more interesting.
Officiating in college sports is having a major negative affect and Michigan has unfortunately suffered from it.
I'm not saying this is a conspiracy against Michigan. Or that Michigan didn't make its own mistakes that cost them games. But, that the quality of officiating is poor and badly in need of reform. And it has cost Michigan games (or at least opportunities). It should even out for Michigan sooner or later but I would rather they just fix it.
My other unpopular opinion: there is too much money in college sports and it is inexcusable to not compensate these athletes beyond their scholarships.
As MSU has enjoyed recent football success, particularly head to head, Michigan fans have become much more obsessed with MSU in the same way we used to (still do) make fun of them. And in some cases its insufferable.
I love Scott Bell on twitter, but man, sometimes I cringe. He's an example, but I imagine it's what MSU fans were like once they first experienced some success against us.
Putting him at Runningback would've made him a Heisman contender and us a very scary team to face. Putting him on an already awesome Defense was fun but a waste.
Ohio State is on a top 3-4 national program tier. Michigan, Sparty, Wisky, and PSU are on a tier just below. It would be very difficult and perhaps unrealistic to expect Michigan to reach that top tier.
Harbaugh has done an outstanding job in taking us from average to that second teir. It would be foolish to insist on our going to the top teir to the extent of firing him if we don't.
I dont think Harbaugh has taken us up a tier, because I think we never left that second teir. He has just, for now, stabilized us at that second teir.
That Cato June stunk.
WichitanWolverine will disagree.
