Hey english scholar, then why use "assholes" which is PLURAL, not singular like your hivemind/log/pile reply - should have used "an asshole" if that was really your highbrow subtle thought.
Nice failed comeback, and can't wait for the reply. BTW, I have a question for you....
February 26th, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
everybody from opposing fan bases, not just State, takes lumps when they first join and comment. And when the Penn State stuff broke a few years ago, people were RUTHLESS to Nintany Fan. He just toughed it out. That is just what happens if you venture here. I wouldn't create an account on RCMB or really even The Only Colors as GoBlueJohn unless I was ready for a reasonable amount of hazing.
If it appears based on a reasonable sample size of posts that you legitimately want to just discuss Michigan or BIG sports from an outside perspective, things settle down. But no, this isn't one of those blogs where people kiss ass to fans of other teams who post. Eventually you could be just another poster, even as SpartyJon, but it doesn't happen right away.
Have a take. Don't suck. And don't freak out the first time another poster blasts you for being a State fan, it will happen from time to time if you want to post here.

Dear Jo(h)n,
I don't post often, but I read this blog every day and every fan of an opposing team takes a reasonable amount of hazing at first. No other sports blog is different and others have responded with what you will need to do to feel welcomed over time.
With that said, you joined 2/26/2018 - does quick calendar check - yep, that's today. How you think 90% of the board have been assholes in that amount of time made me laugh enough to post. If that's going to be your immediate response and thought process, then you already had your mind made up about this place well before posting.
Good luck in your quest to feel welcomed!

February 26th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
See, you really have to do what the pros around here have done and bide your time for months - years, in some cases - before you go full troll or completely ballistic and try to tear the board a new asshole. Doing it the day that you create an account is very amateur.

I mean what isn't clear? Michigan's best win is MSU, and OSU also beat MSU. OSU has the same overall record, and a better B1G record than Michigan. Both got beat by UNC. OSU has 7 losses and 4 are to teams ranked in the top 15. Michigan also has 7 losses and 4 are to teams in the top 15. Each team won their home game against the other. OSU lost to PSU twice, and Michigan lost to Nebraska and Northwestern. Neither team has an impressive non-con win, and OSU's non-con schedule was demonstrably tougher. Michigan's loss to LSU was probably worse than any OSU loss. Dismissing OSU's win over Purdue in Mackey is funny to me, when you specifically ask the question "What have they done that we haven't?" and then immediately dismiss the biggest thing OSU did that Michigan didn't.

I'm sure I've given Buckeye Ross some shit. Because reasons. But he usually shows up to our parties with good posts and a six pack of reputable craft beer. We shouldn't ask for much more than that.

February 26th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
Yeah, it's remarkable how similar our two teams' résumés are. It's basically a coin flip as far as who gets ranked higher. We can argue that Michigan is currently playing better basketball than OSU (and perhaps, the rest of the Big Ten) but if you look at the entire season it's really close.
February 26th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
Agree with this completely. OSU hasn't been very impressive in February. Of course they beat Purdue on the 7th, but they also had close ones against Iowa, Indiana and Illinois, lost to Michigan and got demolished by PSU. OSU spent December and January pulverizing bad B1G teams, and spent February squeaking games out against similar competition. Maybe the week off before the tournament will help them since they're more shallow than usual. They looked worn down by the end of the season.

their starters are pretty good. it's their bench that sux. holltman has done a good job of getting his guys to play better. i expect their team to drop a bit next year due to talent losses. if they finish in the top 5 next year in the BIG, he should get coach of the year.
February 26th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Since there is really no separation. It bothers me that with how similar the resumes are, and the slim margin between the two teams, that somehow Auburn is in between them. How two teams can be so close and have a random team in between them is weird.
February 26th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
I think a lot of the reason many fans on here think they should be even or above OSU is because of the eye test. Michigan has played two bad games since the early december trip to Columbus, and are looking better every game, OSU on the other hand is starting to sputter a bit and as Michigan fans, we know the perils of having to play Dakich for a ton of minutes each game. It wasn't homerish that many of us here felt confident going into the game a few weeks ago, as it seems as if recently, Michigan has just been the better team.
Obviously none of this should matter, I am a firm believer in resumes, and I think the two are incredibly similar. I think there is an argument to be made that both teams going a combined 1-2 against Penn st. and Purdue should be taken as the same as the Away Win at Purdue should be balanced out with the home loss to Penn State. All in all, I'm fine with OSU being two spots ahead, especially because it does not at all matter.
February 26th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
when you put it that way, the purdue win can justify osu 1 spot ahead of M, i will say tho M was playing so good ball against osu at home and they were sticking right with M until the last few minutes, that was a good game, 2 pretty even teams.
spartyjon should take a note how to comment on rivals blogs, or just dont go on rivals blogs....
February 26th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
i agree. i thought osu looked pretty good in that game for a while, but their guard play just couldn't hang in the last 8 mins. will be interesting to see how the game goes on a neutral floor.
February 26th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
I can live with that.
February 26th, 2018 at 4:24 PM ^
Both Ohio and Michigan have tough roads to set up a neutral-court game. I can see either Michigan beating Nebraska then State, or the Bucks beating Purdue, but not all of this.
February 26th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
both Nebraska and Northwestern were road losses and OSU lost to PSU both at home and on the road where as Michigan beat PSU both at home and on the road.
February 26th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
what's your point
February 26th, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
You seem to be drawing some kind of equivalence between OSU's two losses to PSU and UM's two losses to Nebraska and Northwestern and I'm pointing out that I don't think you should compare a home and away loss to the same team against two road losses to different teams (one of which is better than PSU).
I also doubt many would consider the Butler loss a quality loss either.
February 26th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
I think the point of comparison is we both lost two B1G games to teams that are quote unquote "inferior" that the other team also beat.
I also didn't say OSU's Butler loss was quality. I do think it's a better loss than U-M's LSU loss, but that doesn't mean either loss is particularly great. I also think if OSU played UCLA and Texas instead of Gonzaga and Clemson, we'd have two less losses, and there'd be no debate about OSU being ranked ahead of U-M.

Why are they a fraud? Weak non-con but they are 2nd in a tough conference and had a shot to be in 1st before losing to KU (whom they beat ealier in the season) by 2 points.
Honestly, most the of the teams in front of us look pretty solid to me. I don't think there's a lot more upward mobility in our ranking. More importantly though, I hope our seed reflects our ranking and not our RPI.
