Dan Enos rumors

Submitted by amir_6 on
A lot of rumors floating around about Dan Enos and how he may have a spot on the staff, possibly as a Co-OC and or QB Coach.. interesting considering Harbaugh has no ties to Enos as far as I'm concerned. How would you guys feel about adding this guy?

was horrendous in 2017, 100+ ranked in total yardage allowed, plus the won one SEC game. Tends to make what the offense needs to do obvious. Not saying Enos is anything special, but just sayin'...

I think he'd come in for special teams coordinator and an offesnive position coach/run game coordinator?

That'd probably be fine. He'd be a great recruiter in the midwest and the staff needs that.

It seems like the early departures make sense. The team faded down the stretch in games so S & C coach goes away. Safeties struggled on defense so the safety coach is gone. Tackles were awful so Frey is leaving. Special teams were bad so they are bringing in a coach specifically for that. Midwest recruiting could be better so they need an Ace in the hole there on staff.

I imagine both Pep and Drevno wil be gone and/or have different roles and a new OC is being brought in.

He’s a head coach in FBS. He’s got a nice set up now and will get a P5 gig either this next cycle or the one after that. Guys don’t leave that for coordinator gigs unless something’s coming down the pike real fast. FCS coaches do. FBS don’t, Pete Lembo aside.

Well then get used to 4-5 loss seasons. This country club shit has to stop. If Harbaugh doesn’t win next year then his ass is gone. We can hire Hoke back for half the money. I don’t know how Harbaugh sleeps at night after this season. Bo is rolling in his grave

A offensive coaching change would be fantastic, but I have a hard time seeing Michigan's athletic department buying out the remainder of Drevno and Hamiliton's contracts. Collectively, Drevno and Hamiliton have $8.95 million left on their contracts. I know we all like to believe that Michigan football is an endless well of cash, but that would put a noticeable dent in their budgeting.

Even if it happens, and I doubt the athletic department is going to turn around and let Harbaugh spend another $1-2 million a year to find an elite OC.

Everyone says it doesn't work but really..you based that on what exactly? Your empty speculation - i.e. stab in the dark - about what went wrong this year?

The top offense in the country - Oklahoma - had co-offensive coordinators. Cale Gundy and Bill Bedenbaugh. So did the no.3 offense in the country Louisville. And so did Memphis (no.4) kinda as they have a run game coordinator in addition to a OC (no.6 USF has the same setup). And of course no. 7 offense OSU has an OC, a co-OC and an 'assistant head coach for offense'. The list goes on and on.

In other words, there is zero evidence that a co-OC setup hurts an offense. It's a hot take that would embarrass Skip Bayless.

The reason this is becoming more common is because a better job title and a broader distribution of responsibilities means you can attract better candidates and maintain well-performing staff. Coaching has always been a team effort and gameplans are usually designed collaboratively. In this new world of college football, it's not enough to give that position coach a pat on the back for his contributions because he'll be the OC somewhere else very quickly that way. Give him a better job title and you may keep him for another couple years.

I think having someone who wouldn't call the same plays as harbaugh will help in stead of having 3 guys that would call the same exact plays. That lacks creativity. But I doubt he would hire him as an OC harbaugh knows the offense is terrible. He will go out and get a top guy to get this offseason to match the defense. Enos isn't the answer

Would be a train wreck.....ran my Chips O into the ground.

As a QB coach (or the rumor I'd heard was RB coach with Jay moving back to TE's) maybe but I think that they can do better.....

go look at the top 10-20 scoring teams in FBS and find five OCs that might be poachable and go get one.  Unfortunately, the one from Memphis is taken, but what about the UCF, MIssouri Univ of Ohio, FAU, South Florida.  All these teams drastically outsciored UM in ppg.  We need  a young fresh mind and boot Drevno and Hamilton to the curb.

Move into the 21st century JH PLEASE!!!!

Spartan Dan ruined my Chips. They were 48-28 under Kelly and Jones with 3 MAC championships. They were were 26- 36 under Spartan Dan with no championships. In Jones last year they were 12 - 2 with a MAC championship,Bowl Win,and a win over MSU! The following year, 2010, with Spartan Dan at the helm...3-9.....followed that up with....yes another 3-9 season. Just say no to Spartan Dan!

For assistant coaches, I think of two best cases: The new guy doing something different and working their way up and the coach that was fired and has a ton of experience. Enos definitely falls into the latter category but how much of it was good? His Arkansas offenses aren't on the map for performance and his experience seems to be more RBs/QBs. If Jay moves back to TE/ST then he may have a spot there but why him?

I will say that I do admire what he did at CMU. Pretty big rebuild, all things considered. His last game was that wild Bahamas Bowl several years ago where it was like 49-48 WKU.

What in the hell?

Dan Enos inherited a CMU program that had gone 9-4, 8-6, 8-6, and 11-2 the previous four seasons, and promptly led the Chippewas to two successive 3-9 seasons.

And his "rebuild" was 7-6, 6-6, and 7-6. This is even more ridiculous than saying Brady Hoke "rebuilt" Ball State.

We all agree the play calling has been bad especially this year. From my understanding talking with some boosters it was Harbaugh call to let go Wheatley and Fisch. If Harbaugh can convince Fisch and Wheatley to come back I’m all for it. Make them Co O coordinators, Fisch would be the passing coordinator and Wheatley would also be the RB coach. Can Pep and Drevno and make Frey the O line coach, if Drevno leaves for FSU bring in Jumbo Elliot or Chris Jansen and the O line coach. Bring in Toomer as the WR coach since he seems to know it all.

This had better not be a "Co-Offensive Coordinator" thing!  I am sure a lot of our issues are from too many cooks in the kitchen.

With Frey leaving, it is time to let go of PH, TD, and coaches son.  Then bring in a new OC along with an O Line Coach, an RB coach and a Wide Receivers Coach.  An epic opportunity to install an offense that is better suited to 18 to 21 year olds.

And no more "Passing Game Coordinators" please.  The OC calls the plays and runs the offense.

The offense has been an absolute disaster.  Just the same mistakes repeatedly.

If Harbaugh continues to bring in multiple guys and does not make the tough decisions.....we are sunk.

What if instead we created a Dynamic Football Structure™ similar to what they have at ASU. All of our coaches will be offensive coordinators which will lead to an innovative and collaborative social media experience for our student athletes while providing much needed synergies. With the innovative Co-Co-Co-Co-Co or C5 structure we will be able to come up with multiple ways to run play action on 4th and 25 while not developing talent to its full potential.

Drevno, Pep and Frey all gone to other jobs and Greg Roman and Dan Enos are in. Also possibly new WR coach and RB coach. The next few days could be intresting.

I know this is what a lot of the fan base wants, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The offense had a lot of creativity the first couple years with Fisch, and now we are firing the whole offensive coaching staff a year after he moves on. Offensive line still has major problems among other things, but flipping over the whole offensive staff will most likely slow the progression of the offense for next season and also hurt recruiting. I am not saying they shouldn't go, but I think losing Fisch hurt the offense more than anything.
