Big Ten officiating is atrocious

Submitted by Maizen on

16 penalties for 141 yards on Michigan and many of them of the dubious variety compared to 5 for 55 yards on IU. Multiple uncalled holds, multiple uncalled pick plays, multiple uncalled intentional groundings. Either big ten refs are incompetent or corrupt but the result is the same. Refs nearly handed IU the game. Not saying UM played perfect (they clearly didn't), but that was bad.

UPDATE: BTN just said the 16 penalties is an all time record.

The officiating in the B1G is poor. It’s amateur hour out there for the four hours the game takes. My favorite part of the game is watching the stripes meet to discuss how they want to screw Michigan. I bet there were at least 20 conferences and probably 30 minutes of officials talking or reviews of things that were fairly easy calls. And yet somehow they still didn’t get targeting called correctly. Morons!

Michigan earned most of their penalties, but good lord did IU get away with a lot. multiple blocks in the backs on that punt return, the pick play to get their TD. One of them just tackled Gary when he was going for a sack in the 4th.

I am honestly not sure if there was a hold on that play. Watson looked to be running along side of Cobb step for step. But there was no replay. I think what pisses me off the most was their DB were allowed to play physical and get hands on wr, outside the one call that is. The play were fant hooked Crawfords arm and turned him while the ball was in the air was the clearest PI/def holding off the night, and in front of 2 refs. I think Perry got hit well before ball got there on third too, but I can't be sure because no replay.

Been that way now for 58 years. Maybe the tide will turn for the next 50 years. T hree possible ressons why IMO: 1. We're an incredibly dirty team that cheats every chance we get 2. We're an incredibly poorly coached team that doesnt know what to do 3. Officials do not like Michigan and resent our school and the players that represent it. You choose which one seems most likely

Cobbs huge play and onset kick recovery went our way while they prbly wouldn't have against osu or psu. I'll refrain from complaining too much.

But that is not a new thing.

They did get the on-sides kick call correct.

And shouldn;t M have an at least average offense?  That would made questionable officaiting irrelevant against teams like IU.

There were a lot of close calls I would say the game was even. The refs didn’t cause 3 offsides or 2 delay of games or 4 pass interferences

And then yea, it wasn't even a catchable ball, clearly the receiver wasn't even concerend with any PI or holding and the throw had no chance of getting to the receiver.  Just a dumb flag that had no iota of sense to it.
