NSIAP: Inside Michigan Football: Pre MSU

Submitted by The Fugitive on

Fellas are getting ready to open up a can of whoop ass on MSU.

Here is my scorching hot snowflake: Purdue is better than MSU.  Once O'Korn settled in against their aggressive (ahem, dirty) defense we rattled off 21 unanswered points and never looked back.  Once we got the lead it was over.

I look for State's defense to play as aggressive (ahem, dirty) as Purdue and their offense to get shut down.  If we are prepared for fakes on special teams, we will control all 3 phases.

Michigan wins 29-11.

S&P+ thinks MSU (32) is a lot better than Purdue (72), FWIW.

Look, I hope we destroy Sparty on Saturday, but I think we're in for another close game with them. I hope we're able to block Panasiuk, Bachie and Dowell and win the rushing battle. Our S&P+ scoring margin is about 12 points higher than MSU's, in line with the spread. I'll gladly take a double-digit victory over them.

I could have sworn that Woodson was slated to be honrary captain for the OSU game. Here it is Inside Michigan Football is claiming MSU. I'm very confused on this topic.

Also, I am excited to see what O'Korn does in this game. It took some time for him to "click" coming off the bench last game, but - when he clicked - they looked pretty good!

If second-half UM offense from the Purdue game shows up, I think it will be a fun game for UM fans! A lot of people may be surprised at the offense's performance. If first-half UM offense shows up, woof. It could be a rough day.

I thought the same thing and believe that its up to the OC to ensure the start we need.

Very comfortable with his TEs right now and they do present a hell of a problem. Can use a few delay routes, both across the middle and to the flats off play action. Of course we can line up one of the big fellows with DPJ or McDoom for quick tosses to the outside and let them run in space. Watched his confidence soar after toss into small window to McKeon and hard running on the bootleg.

As one of the receivers stated, "He's familiar with all of us because we simply jump in, receivers w/both qbs to ensure everyone gets lots of work with everyone else. I see no reason for our D not to remain their stingy selves and this should give us a decided advantage in offensive attempts. Thought the play-by-play man was nuts up two weeks ago, when speaking about the D said, "You might get them once, but never twice."

I actually see mismatches in our favor all over the field from our wrs to our TEs who are big and very very fast. Those crossing routes will be there until they make a concerted effort to take them away and if they do that, automatically creates opening elsewhere. Like a surgeon.

Here’s something we should get straight right now; Purdue is not anywhere near as good or talented as MSU. Period.

If we you remove dismissed players I'd bet the difference is minimal.  Just off the top of my head, the two DEs are walk one (zero stars), one or both of the safeties are near it, their LT was a MAC level TE, one of the guards a similarly ranked MAC level recruit.

And Brohm stuffed the roster with grad transfers and juco players immediately upon arriving - 11 in total.

Not saying Purdue is better because I don't know yet, I'd guess they're similar.  But recruiting profiles aren't a great argument given what's transpired at both schools

Comparing resume to resume, Purdue hung in there for a time with both Louisville and Michigan. MSU didn't look overly impressive vs two MAC teams and Iowa, but got wrecked by Notre Dame

I'm not saying we should discount MSU or that they aren't much improved, but I'm not sure I buy that they aren't in the same class as Purdue right now

Are Michigan fans forgetting the bullshit ending to the 2015 game? Are Michigan fans forgetting that our defense is on record of taking their foot off the gas in the second half of the 2016 game allowing it to appear close?  Our guys are going to be just as motivated to kick the shit out of MSU as they are, so, to me, neither of these instances will happen Saturday.

The game is not going to be close enough for getting off a punt to decide the game. Our defense is even better this year.  And the game is at home, at night and it's gonna be bonkers - State hasn't left East Landfill yet this year.

MSU simply does not have the offensive firepower to threaten our defense.  Our offense finally clicked and we got extra time to improve.

What am I missing?

I truly hope the staff realizes... 1. That MSU is gonna do all dirty things possible to take out O'Korn, knowing it's their best shot. 2. That Dantoni is sneaky and has a ton of plays that draw the defense too far upfield, boy I hope Coach Brown is ready for the trickery. Seems in years past we weren't ready for all the trickery and crap that's coming. Brown adjusted well to Purdue but Dantoni is sublimely sneaky and all is needed is to be aware of it, as it's their Super Bowl.

at Purdue, especially offensively in the second half and they wore Purdue out.  Expect a tough game from Sparty.  Beat Sparty !  All night long.

Love that hug between Kugler and O’Korn - I have a really good feeling about this game. I think O’Korn and Gentry are going to both have nice games. Hoping Isaac is 100%

Jeez - very poor form to interview Mel and ask all of those questions about Red. Let him be his own man, it's his time now. 5 of the 6 questions were about Red.
