Georgia moves ahead of us to 6th. Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State are 4th, 8th, and 9th, respectively.

Georgia had jumped us last week, so we slide up one with the USC loss. Penn State is still at 4th, while Wisconsin (9th) and Ohio State (10th) also move up one spot.

opportunity to smash a team to bolster the resume. UGA crushes UT at Knoxville, PSU has blown out bad teams, etc - those move the needle of confidence by pollsters. Can JH get this offense humming enough to put up 30+ points?

top three defense and top five coaching staff, I think it's pretty easy to consider Michigan a top ten team. Especially when you look at the rest of the college football landscape. Alabama is the only team in the country that I want Michigan to avoid playing. Let somebody else try to knock them off. Bring on any and all other takers!

We have an elite defense that gives us a chance to win every week, but we're not an elite team.  This year, that's good enough for second half of the top ten, I think.  Only Clemson and Alabaama are complete teams.

Hello all. A few years back I created a college football ranking system. The system ranks teams by how a team does versus their strength of schedule week over week. This year, I am publicizing the poll for anyone who wishes to follow throughout the season.

Visit www.collegeplayoffbound.com to view the rankings. I hope to make that site more entertaining/informative over time as well.

The rankings to date will look very unorthodox to what we see at this time of year as it ranks teams based on what they have done against the schedule they have faced. Rankings are not based on subjectivity and preconceived opinions in any shape or form. As the season progresses and more games are played, the polls will look more and more like the top 25 we are used to seeing. In the 4 year history, BCS era and CFP era, the top 2 and/or top 4 teams have been correct every year, based solely on a computer algorithm. I recently uploaded the final (pre-bowl) rankings for the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons for reference to compare and contrast with the AP/Coaches/CFB Playoff committee rankings.

Anyway, this is a fun hobby of mine and thought some may find it interesting.

Michigan is riding high at #2 due to a quality win versus a good Florida team.

Alabama is climbing, but still just at #4 this week.  Their win versus Florida State is looking less impressive.  Their best quality win right now is versus Vanderbilt.
