Magnus, any "household name" college players that were originally offered scholarships at that young of an age? I don't follow recruiting well enough to know if any of these insanely early offered recruits ever pan out.

I agree. Does make one wonder what could have been had Michigan been able to retain Enos.

Pining for anything MSU did offensively over what Michigan did this year is a terrible, terrible take.

I think they have a systemic play calling issue. We've all seen the "too many cooks in the kitchen" comments. That's at least partially based in reality. The most obvious times for that issue to rear it's head is when the clock is working against you. It's so broken, and the end of the first half against Florida had me cringing, for sure.

01/08/2019 - 10:14am We agree on more than one…

We agree on more than one thing. The assertion that you'll get negged for disagreeing with Harbaugh is not somewhere we agree. I see plenty of (often very justifiable, sometimes baffling) criticism thrown his way around here. We definitely don't agree on how many times one's opinion should be stated on the same message board. I guess my options are to stay away from the boards or to find a way to enjoy reading the same comments over and over? That's a bummer.

01/08/2019 - 10:08am Just so I understand. Excuse…

Just so I understand. Excuse: "The OL isn't elite" Reason:"Harbaugh hates 5 stars, but loves 3 stars"? Got it.

01/08/2019 - 9:57am At the risk of "getting you…

At the risk of "getting you started", Michigan consistently needed an extra blocker (Tight End) on the field this year because their OL is not yet elite. All of that running they did was in large part due to the strengths of their individual linemen (basically, four guards and a center), despite how painful it was for us poor fans to watch rather than of all those exciting passes we'd hoped for. Martin didn't get nearly as many snaps as DPJ or Collins this year. Black had a pretty significant injury. Tempo/improving their 2-minute offense 100% has to happen next year. I'd be pretty surprised if this isn't equally as evident to Harbaugh as it is to us. This offense will be better next year. Enjoy the off season.

01/08/2019 - 9:46am Another narrative that…

Another narrative that should be laid to rest around here. Baumgardner is actually pretty good at what he does. Certainly not the greatest writer, but his overall coverage of Michigan sports is solid.

01/08/2019 - 9:43am Quit acting like a martyr…

Quit acting like a martyr every time you criticize this coaching staff/team/offense/whatever. Nobody's arguing that Michigan can stagnate their approach to football and win a National Championship next year. I'd love to see an analysis of how many posts read "fire Pep" "outdated offense" "dinosaur" "up the gut" run, run, pass, punt" etc. lately. You're not in the minority here, and we've seen more than enough iterations of your opinion. I'm sure it's making the difference you're hoping it does.

01/08/2019 - 9:35am Right, because that's…

Right, because that's the narrative we've all been berated with around here... I'm all for the offense improving next year, and it must for Michigan to win the B1G. I feel like I'm in the minority thinking that it will. Michigan averaged 10 more points per game this year than they did with a very young offense in 2017. I'd be surprised if they don't average 40ppg next year without this "air raid" offense that everybody assumes is necessary. Not quite willing to climb out to the ledge with you, yet.

01/08/2019 - 7:14am Nebraska scored 360 points…

Nebraska scored 360 points this year.... Michigan scored 457. But, let's all continue the "Michigan can't offense" narrative.

Neither McCaffrey nor Milton were "5*, can't miss" prospects, either. Though, they were both ranked higher, and Dylan was incredibly well regarded. Still not sure I understand the assertion that Joe Milton is a surefire starter at Michigan. There's a lot of required development between then and now.

Don't be surprised at the unfavorable responses you get to any of your posts when it comes to recruiting, in particular. You've basically shattered your own reputation by aligning any praise exclusively with 5* recruits and using terms like "reach" for any 3* or below recruit. I'm just impressed you continue to find new ways of essentially saying "5* good, 3* bad".

11/19/2018 - 5:17pm This is kinda a poopy post,…

This is kinda a poopy post, man. From what I've read on this site, I think most people feel that Michigan's best effort is slightly better than OSU's best effort. It's the first time we've been able to say that in a loooong time, so maybe you're just misinterpreting this sentiment as overconfidence. A cakewalk this definitely will not be. But, Michigan is favored for a reason. Beat OSU!

Same could be asked of your very presumption post. If Jim Harbaugh didn’t want Pep around, Pep would not be around. Can we at least save the “thing I’m angry about needs to change” posts for after Michigan losses and not after a systematic dismantling of a top 15 team?

I should probably note that these are taken from the Bill Walsh portion of the statistical profile.

10/03/2018 - 11:21am Viewers of this thread are…

Viewers of this thread are probably non-existent at this point, but I wanted to look at some OSU numbers compared to Michigan's:

Standard Down Success Rate: UofM = 55% (Ranked 13th) OSU= 57% (Ranked 5th)

Avg. 3rd Down Distance: UofM = 5.9 yards (Ranked 3rd) OSU = 6.2 yards (Ranked 11th)

3rd Down Success Rate: UofM = 52% (Ranked 11th) OSU = 44% (Ranked 31st)

I thought it was an interesting comparison, especially considering how many vocal Michigan fans seem to prefer an Urban Meyer offense over a Jim Harbaugh offense. I'm so far from an expert that I probably shouldn't even follow up on this sentence, but I have actually been quite impressed with the efficiency of the offense this year. I think this is getting pretty close to Harbaugh's ideal, coupled with few turnovers and an improving/elite defense.

09/05/2018 - 9:31am Even if all of this is true,…

Even if all of this is true, I still see Harbaugh being the type of coach who can maintain 8-5 as the floor, and pull out the occasional 11-12 win season. While that's not Bama or OSU, it's still not a bad place to be. The biggest surprise to me is how dramatically Harbaugh raised the expectations around here. I don't think "Harbaugh is the best we can do/hope for" is an undesirable destination, honestly.

You make good points, but considering how he poured himself into getting back on the field, I'm absolutely heartbroken for the kid. Was hoping he'd at least get to see some ceremonial playing time to publicly validate his hard work. Definitely one of those guys that we'll hear more about going forward for off the field accomplishments, but bummer man.

Hopefully, James Hudson is more of a Grant Newsome style revelation than he is a Nolan Ulizio experiment. Good to know that the coaches might have faith in a guy with the higher ceiling at this point, though.

Bluey,

Thus is the best, most reasonable post of yours that I’ve read. This is a tone that will promote discussion (I think that’s what you’re looking for?), and stem the slanderous responses you’ve been getting. I think most of us agree with what you’re saying, honestly because it’s pretty obvious Michigan isn’t recruiting at a Bama/OSU level. The confrontational style of your posts is what gets old and isn’t wanted or needed on this board.

05/02/2018 - 1:03pm That's not how I remember it.

Didn't he first plan to resign at the end of the '09 season for "health reasons", but ended up coming back to coach the '10 season before resigning (for good) again at the end of that regular seaons? I though we all asssumed it was the whole cheating with a coed thing..... Maybe I don't remember it correctly, but I never assumed he had insider information about the Tattoo/Tressel debacle.

02/16/2018 - 11:35am Yes, bad.

According to ESPN's FPI efficiency;

#71 in 2015

#84 in 2016

#105 in 2017

I think I'll give him a slight pass, considering the lack of QB talent through most of that tenure. Here's hoping having Shea Patterson will make all of the difference for 2018.

02/16/2018 - 11:27am So Harbaugh’s

track record is completely null and void because of one, injury plagued season where we saw young players struggling with complex assignments? Okay

02/15/2018 - 3:56pm Meh

I think this year will be a blip and we'll see the return of 2016-2017 level recruiting classes. Bama was able to topple Urban Meyer's Florida "machine" with less than top ten classes. Then again, I did say we shouldn't try to compare ourselves to Bama, so..... I still think Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and Dabo Swinney at Clemson is a fair comparison. It may take some time, but when (not if) Harbaugh has a game changing, Deshaun Watson-type talent at QB, sky's the limit.
