WTKA Roundtable 8/24/2017: Craig Sold a Book at Literati
[Bryan Fuller]
Things discussed:
- Alcohol sales: Commerce is annoying. People in the suites can get up and get a beer without annoying Brian. Could you bring a keg to Michigan Stadium in the day?
- Florida really humped the shark: Three-headed quarterback situation can’t be good news for them. Going with Luke Del Rio is really not good news, especially for Zaire.
- The secondary has us concerned, especially after the starters. Sam suggests the trepidation might be the aliens at receiver making our guys look bad. Lavert Hill has come on.
- Keith Washington: coaches asked him to develop some safety skills and that caused it—weird. Michigan is now thin at corner: JKP is probably going to have to move.
- James Hudson to offensive tackle: good news for DL depth, bad news for OTs. It may not stick—this stuff happens in a Harbaugh program.
- The defense is the defense: Don Brown will help the kids out by calling up good doctor blitz. Lost guys but gained experience in the system.
- Having fun with the different types of players they’ve got. Michigan will spread it out to use the catching abilities of Evans, Hammering Panda, and the receivers and tight ends. Pep effect!

My father-in-law (MI grad) said that back when he was young, he was a boy scout and a stadium usher (I'm guessing this was early 60's).......he said the students would roll kegs into the stadium no problem........good times.

I asked an usher to hold a 12 pack of beer while I fished my ticket pack out of my coat pocket in the 80's. They leaned harder on alcohol around '89, IIRC.

From 1979-81 our fraternity (Sigmi Chi) brought a pony keg to every home game without fail. I carried that thing into the stadium many times. 100% true.

Prepare for the slowest week of the year....
Go Blue!

The Pep Effect has me the most excited for this season. I feel like spreading teams wide and using the hammering panda was the one thing we lacked for a championship run last year.

This secondary is giving me lots of Gone But Not Forgotten vibes.

12 packs of beer in paper bag - no problem, most common form of alcohol
Kegs - 1/4 barrel (pony kegs 7.75 gal) not uncommon, downside here is you had to carry the keg out to return it to Campus Corners.

I was 78-81 but same experience and same place to return the empty.
BTW - the other drink of choice back in the day was "cider" completely laced with booze. We used to bring in jugs of that stuff as freshman.

There still seem to be several unanswered questions at DB and OT - this can't be good news, no matter how you (try to) spin it.
I get the sense that we'll be a good team, but probably not yet elite.

We did bring a full 1/2 barrel keg to the 1981 NW game. Carried it up Main to the NW entrance, where we were told we couldn't bring it in because it would take up a seat. Turned around and bought a ticket for $1. Went back to the same guy and said the keg has a ticket now. He shrugs his shoulders and says OK. We sold beers for $1 to a large swath sitting around us. Good times.
