2 Sports Questions For You

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

These two questions are for you and relate to events that you personally participated in, not just things that you attended or maybe watched on TV.   This is a pretty biased blog in that most of the folks that post here are sports junkies and played some level of sports relative to the overall population.   All of us (or nearly all) at some point participated in athletics.  It might have only been in gym class up to 9th grade, but for many it was high school at least and for many it was beyond that.

The questions are closely related and are as follows:

1.  What was your most disappointing or embarrassing sports moment?

2.  What was your favorite, most memorable sports moment?

My greatest sports moment was the one time I put on boxing gloves.  I knocked out some loud mouth in the first 10 seconds of the bout.  I believe his name was McFarlin or something stupid like that.  It really wasn't that impressive though as the dude was built like Barney Fife.

WTH did I miss?  I saw the McFarlin tidbits on pg 1, and see where LSA nuked him.  So sad - he said he was reformed!  But I gotta say, 2173 posts are the most I've ever seen on this board in one thread...

Most embarrassing: I punched the first baseman in the belly when I was thrown out at first in little league one time.  Was trying to hit his glove.  Maybe 10 or 11 at the time, but that was so out of character for me...  I apologized to him and his parents after the game without even being prompted to by the coach and my parents.

Best: Telling the announcer at the scoring table that the US beat Russia in Lake Pacid, 1980.  I was in 8th grade, and it was during the girls bball game (JV played first, then girls, then varsity).  The game was stopped, the score announced, and a 5-10 minute standing-O commenced.  I had a heeluva game after that, completely shutting down the opponents (and league's) star guard.  I even went behind the back bringing the ball upcourt against a press for an easy layup assist.  Yes, I remember that so long ago!  LOL!!  (BTW, you bunch'o degenerates, I was on the varsity team...)

Proudest moment: During recess in 4th grade, we were playing pick up football and the teacher, a big hulking guy (at least it seemed that way to a 4th grader), was playing qb. I headed to the endzone, he threw it to me, and I caught it. It was a real football, not some squishy Nerf. And I'm a girl, so it was an especially big deal.

Most embarrassing moment, on the next play, he threw it to me again, this time for a touchdown, and rather than catch it with my hands, I caught it with my face. Black eye. To be honest, it was embarrassing in the moment, but then cool as hell to have a black eye.
