Two more football players depart Michigan State program

Sorry if this has already come up, but I didn't see it anywhere.

Kenney Lyke and Kaleel Gaines have both left the program, totaling 7 players with eligibility that have left the team since the end of 3-9. It's unclear why Gaines left, but it is reported that Lyke left because he fell a credit short of a semester course load and is likely going to attend Ole Miss either next year, or the following year. (I camped with Lyke before, he's not a dumb guy, just wanna throw that out there before people attack his character)

With the 3 suspended players still up in the air, MSU is looking at possibly losing 10 scholarship football players in an offseason. That is an insane amount of attrition.

regardless of his grades. If he transfers while academically ineligible, he can't get a scholarship or practice with the team that year. In other words, expect him to go the JuCo route.

I'm not indicting any of the kids individually, but I do wonder if there may be some addition by subtraction. Clearly a culture shift was needed on that team, maybe this is making room for fresh blood. Too many bad stories to laugh here, so I'll just leave it at that.

But, given the attrition due to graduation last season and all of this among the experienced backups can't bode well for this year.  I feel like the waterboy will be playing left tackle and the student manager the field corner.  If it wasn't MSU, I would almost feel bad for them.  As it is, I want to crush them into dust under our heels.

That means you can't get a scholarship at another 4 year school.

As far as being able to play immediately, I'm not sure that he should. Some players don't. You're using up a year of eligibility that might be better spent after he transfers again.

He burned his redshirt playing in two games and making one tackle. A reminder that Dantonio's redshirting strategy is not what it is often portrayed to be..

I do actually feel bad for them.

I mean, kinda. This doesn't change anything this season--we were going to mop the floor with them at home anyway. And it comes as I have had basically zero contact with MSU fans in months (hello, northern Minnesota!), so I don't have the fresh aroma of obnoxiousness in my nostrils.

But the fans are people and we've been through program meltdowns and I can sympathize. A bit. The problem not the Lyle issue (academics, always good for a chuckle) but all the other stuff this just adds to. Because the other stuff is awful and there's nothing funny about it.

Mind you, this isn't going to reduce the enjoyment I would experience this fall during a hypothetical disaster season. Not at all.
