OT-Lions trade for Guard
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/05/lions-acquire-rob-sims-…
Hope they didnt give up to much, but other wise sounds good.
We need a better Oline. I don't know if he's any good, but he must be ok if he is expected to start.
Didn't Sims go to Ohio State? If so, boo.
Yes he did.
Yes, and now some of his taxed income is going to the University of Michigan.
Guy who started most of last season for a 5th rounder....sounds good to me
According to the radio, they gave up a 5th round pick. Apparently this guy is pretty good, young and a for sure starter (duh, it's the Lions). Seems like a pretty good trade to me.
According to the Killer, it's a fifth round pick.

In addition the 5th rounder this year, Seattle gets DE Robert Henderson from the Lions and a 2010 seventh-round pick.
Still a good deal though.
Anything to get that O-Line functional.
Its like the Lions are trying to win or something. Never experienced this before in my lifetime. I like the moves they're making this offseason.
Martin Mayhew has a clue. He's been on a run for the past 18 months.
The Roy Williams trade
What appears to be the right coach
A good draft that will produce 4 starters at least this coming season and maybe a fifth
A really good off season bringing in Williams, VandenBosch, Burleson, Houston, Hill and now Sims.
I know it's the Lions and all but I am getting more optimistic that Mayhew may be the man.
Looks like their confident with Backus at Tackle, which means...
With the second pick in the 2010 draft, the Lions select...
NDAMUKONG SUH!!!
YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES
with a decent guard next to backus, he can play just his position and not worry/compensate for a having a crappy guard next to him.
"Seriously, do they have some kind of master plan?
I do appreciate the air freshener the Seahawks sent me, at least I'll have something to help with the stench coming off the field."
An air freshener? The Lions haven't even givens us that.
At least the Seahawks have gone to a Super Bowl...
They did with the season ticket packages 3 seasons ago.
Seeing as our 5th round picks never seem to make it out of training camp we basically acquired a player who fills a position of need for nothing.
Good job Lions?
Wow, feels weird to say that.
This is the best offseason I can ever remember as a lions fan. They are making moves for legitimate players. Never seen it before. Doesn't mean we will win more the 6 games this year, but I love the apparent effort to actually make us better in the trenches. If we are willing to spend for Suh, which I think may be a big reason they want to trade due to the fact that the draft is deep at tackle, Our line(s) will actually, maybe, be a strength on the team. So wierd....
glad to see the Lions making PROgress
It's weird watching a Lions offseason and thinking there's an actual plan in place. And that they're trying to get good in the trenches (which along with two good corners I think is the key to winning football).
but for the sake of discussion i think that you only need one lockdown corner because very few teams have three elite receivers. If you can go one on one with the best receiver then the rest of your defense should (key word) be able to not necessarily stop but contain the other
Randy Moss/Wes Welker, Marques Colston/Robert Meachem
Reggie Wayne/Pierre Garcon, Larry Fitzgerald/Anquan Boldin (Steve Breaston now) Donald Driver/Greg Jennings
Jerry Rice/John Taylor, Lynn Swann/John Stallworth
Isaac Bruce/Torry Holt, Art Monk/Gary Clark
James Lofton/Andre Reed
Not trying to be a dick, just saying...
to add Jermichael Finley to Driver/Jennings. He is going to be a stud. Like Antonio Gates stud.
for the ex texas TE. hes gonna be a STUD.
you listed about 10 teams and had to go back about 20 years to do so. i know there are more exceptions, but the dude is right, in general. one lock-down corner is generally good enough.
wen u say one lock down corner being good enuf would be the jets. they had a solid ass defense with one lock down corner in revis. course...they just upgraded with cromartie but still
with 2 lock down corners, like use the safeties to blitz or for run support to cover for other weaknesses. It also helps with the Manning/ Brady quality QBs who will find the open receiver, no matter who he is.
from just this past season.
I listed the other tandems to give examples from the 70's, 80's and 90's...
I just disagree, with the one "lock down" corner theory.
seen a Lions organization make such great offseason moves as this one. Two thumbs up.
A starting guard for a late draft pick, a draft pick that in all likelihood would have been wasted on a bust.
over a 5th round draft pick any day. I can't wait until the draft, and I can't remember the last time I've said that and really meant it as a Lions fan.
forgotten that they're the Lions? I'm accustomed to their getting their fans' hopes up without real reason. This is pleasantly different.
All these solid offseason moves have to be building up to some massive, twilight-zone-esque fuck-up.
When they trade Ford Field for cash considerations and a seventh round pick in 2011, don't say I didn't warn you.
Sims was pretty promising when he came into the league a few years ago but had some injury problems the last couple of years.
Seattle like him, but thought he was expendable as he didn't fit in with their move to a zone-blocking scheme. He's a decent fit in a man-blocking scheme.
I would love to see Suh in a Lions uniform, but I think the D line should be pretty solid next year, and we still need a lot of help in the secondary. Eric Berry would be a great pick if we could trade down to somewhere around #5. Whatever management decides, I trust them (never thought I'd say that).
It's so weird to see a Lions coaching staff with a actual plan in place for building this team. It looks like we are actually making progress.
Correction: An actual plan that doesn't involve signing a hoard of throwaway/garbage players that other organizations (i.e. Tampa Bay) no longer want.
Drafting Stafford last year combined with the promise he exhibited, really gave the Lions great flexibility in this off season and upcoming draft.
It feels good to have a possible franchise QB on the roster and start to put the pieces in place around him. I don't think people would be nearly as excited about the draft if we had to spend the first pick on Bradford.
