Cam Gordon set to join next MSP trooper recruiting school
There's an article in the Detroit News this morning about former WR/S/LB Cam Gordon. Apparetnly, he was still hanging on in the NFL, but some back injuries have put an end to that path. He is now going to join the Michigan State Police trooper recruiting school with the hope of becoming a full time trooper. The majority of the article is about funding for the MSP and how pending retirments mean that more recruits are necessary.
Just for fun, here is his Hello post from December of 2008.
I just saw this, too. Good for Cam (and the MSP).
when I was a kid. Feeling that call.
Now, after watching the news and YouTube videos I'm not sure you could pay me enough. Lots and lots of scumbags out there and it seems like they are the ones that get the benefit of the doubt more often than not. Nonetheless, what an admirable profession. I'm sure he will do us proud sporting a different color blue!

I was a criminal justice major in undergrad and almost went the law enforcement route, but ultimately went in a different direction. Several of my friends and roommates from college went on to become police officers though and I admire them greatly for it. Not sure I could have done it myself.
He wants to become a Commissioner.
The mayor called the chief, the chief called the deputy chief, the deputy chief just chewed my ass out. You see I don't have any bit of it left don't you??? Where the fuck did you get a truckload of cigarrettes from anyway??? - Inspector Todd (AKA Gil Hill) BHC. . .
His advice: be a firefighter. 1 on, 2 off. You get fed for free. You lift weights while being paid. Depending where you live, you don't actually ever do that much.
Yep. I know several firefighters who have picked up side jobs, because there's just not that much to take up their time. And it's not because they're paid extremely poorly. It's still a dangerous job, but I don't think it's overwhelming like many other jobs.
Yep, one of my favorite car mechanics and the shop I use is also a firefighter. He doesn't particularly need a second job, but he likes working on cars and gets bored on his days off, so he works in the shop. Plus, no one dislikes firefighters. Unless your the fire marshall and can piss off buisness owners, they don't really have the kind of power that can make people angry at them. The only downside is, you know, having to get up close and personal with fires. Turns out they're dangerous.
It seems like chicks really dig hockey players and firefighters.

Chicks dig a damn good puck, and there is simply no debating that.
at the pic of Commissioner Gordon. I'm the Commissioner of the pro Ultimate Frisbee league across the US and Canada and my last name is Gordon. Certainly never a shortage of Batman jokes! Ina ll seriousness, wishing the best and a safe journey to Cam.
hearing that you're a fan and your comments. We have a long way to go, but it's going to be an exciting journey!
and by extension, Devin and Inkster. I recall when they were recruited I learned they were being coached by former DePorres HC - Thompson?- and just how dominant the Eagles were in their division. Figured Inkster was in for a long run of sustained success. I was wrong.
As for Cam, the play that stands out is losing the foot race to Eifert. That's not a slam on Cam - Hell being in the NFL says all one needs to know - but just what a truly gifted athlete Tyler is.
Certain he'll be a success in any field he chooses, so good luck Mr. Gordon. BTW, you people espousing the benefits of the Fire Dept are spot on. A good friend of mine, Mike Ribecky, former All-Stater at Muskegon Catholic; now ret'd as a fireifghter, was able to handle his volunteer job as OL coach at MCC for decades - still is - and his job both. He was free to play at the highest level of softball Muskegon had to offer us and it was not difficult for him to make the weekend tournaments as well. And, oh Hell Yes, lifting weights. He stayed in great shape and still loves his job as line coach. Says he never even considered the HC job.
Was it Cam or Thomas Gordon who had the full-blown, "been on the inside since 1997" prison abs?
Thomas Gordon.

Ah, right. Too bad. A state trooper with prison abs would have been hilarious...

I was a cop for 30 years and retired two years ago. Things have and are continuing to change out there and not necessarily for the better. I agree about becoming a firefighter from the time off and public perception perspective. I have a lot of respect for young men and women who choose to serve in blue because even firefighters need heroes Good luck young man, it's an amazing career.

Is your father named Phil?
My favorite UM Football - Police story took place in 1993 or 94 when a couple buddies of mine were tossing a football around with an open case of beer. The AAPD stops the car and asks what they're doing. Out of instinct or drunken stupidity, my 5'6" buddy from Marquette, MI decides to run from the scene. In about two seconds he is tackled to the ground from behind by the AAPD officer ...none other than Vada Murray! (RIP) He was often on the Party Patrol back then and it wasn't uncommon to have him in a group of officers sent to disperse a party from noise complaints, etc. but to think you could run from him ...AND with a football in your hand.. LOL
Best of luck to Cam and thanks to those who do serve in both the PD and FD - very difficult jobs that many take for granted.
