OT: Brent Musburger to retire
Brent Musberger announced he's retiring from sportscasting and he'll be calling his last game on Jan. 31 (Tuesday).
Long before his ABC/ESPN days, Musberger was the face of CBS' The NFL Today.
Michigan highlights he called that stand out in my mind include the 1989 basketball national championship game, 1991 football vs. Notre Dame (Desmond Howard's diving catch), and UTL I.
Edit: AP reports that ESPN and Musberger said the Sugar Bowl/Mixon comments did not factor into this decision (I personally find that dubious)

Even over Keith, for me. Having him thrown into the SEC Network prison for a very forgettable Fowler always rankled me.

Bye Felicia. People like him who excuse domestic abuse as boys being boys need to take long walk off of a short pier. Good riddance to trash like Musberger.

LOL. I confused him with Marv Albert and was wondering why nobody brought up his "scandal". My bad!
Wish you the best Brent.

As we say in the Navy, Fair Winds and Following Seas, Mr. Musberger. On the whole, I think he was a very good play by play guy who deserves some respect on his retirement.
As with many of the folks on this board, he regularly would drive me crazy. My college roommate used to call him Brent Mushmouth. I absolutely hated the team of Brent and Dick Vermeil. It was only when Brent started working with Gary Danielson, that I said to myself gee Brent calls a better game than I remember; he doesn't actually suck. What gives? I think the issue is that Brent is an exceptionally prepared and professional play by play guy, but he has the personality of a medical examiner. Just let him call the game and he's fine. But, pair him with a colorless color commentator, like Dick, and he tries to fill the void. That goes about as well as your grandfather trying to do gangsta rap. (Actually, your grandfather would be kind of endearing. About as well as someone else's grandfather doing gangsta rap.) Even worse, he has a tendency to show his elation when one team makes a great play or puts the game away. That wins him no friends at all. The winning team's fans couldn't care less that Brent is happy for them, and the losing team's fans think he's cheerleading for the other side, and right when they are at their grumpiest.
He also had the unenviable task of following the Keith Jackson/Bob Griese team.
So, best of luck, Brent; I'm mildly surprised to say this, but I will miss you.

When he'd call a college game, we'd always try to figure out which team he'd bet on.

He's a bandwagon guy - if a team makes a great play or is winning, he crows about how great they are. He switches sides as the momentum shifts.
Has always been hard for me to watch his games. Sometimes, I'd just turn off the sound.

yeah, it was over the top & inappropriate, but it's not like he was dry-humping a studio guest.
Actually, I'd probably tune in to watch that.

I never liked him because he always seemed to have an anti-Michigan bias when he worked UM games.

I have loathed Musburger for years. I think the last straw was him excitedly referring to "The junkyard dogs from East Lansing" during the Demetrius Brown 7 interception game in 1987.
Enjoy your retirement Brent, just don't ever appear back on my TV thanks.

was when he was missile locked on Honey Badger Tyrann Mathieu in I think LSU v Baaaama. Like brought up his moniker every damn play until it became stupid and then reverted to every other play.
I wish I could have reached inside my tv screen and dope-slapped him. (lol)
