Georgia becoming threat to M for Nico Collins: and what is up with Georgia?
Small note from 24/7 that Georgia is challenging late for Nico Collins. But my larger question is, WTF is up with Georgia? They are recruiting at gangbuster levels with Smart this year, rated ahead of our class and in contention for more high level recruits--was Smart known as a great recruiter at Bama or is it someone else on the staff?

The worst case scenario here is probably a #5 finish. Did you forget commitmas? I know it was like 2 or 3 whole weeks ago so it's hard to remember

Has the Harbaugh recruiting bubble broke?
Sure, because a Top 5 recruiting class above perennial recruiting powers like USC, TX, LSU, FL, OK, Clemson, etc. is a disaster.

Georgia has had a top 12 class every year since 2006
probably why Richt was fired
now, they already have a few tall WR in this class so not sure what Nico sees there

It has already been noted here, but I don't think everyone realizes just how talent-rich that state is when it comes to recruiting. I didn't feel like doing any real math, but a quick perusal of 247 indicates that Georgia's (the state) 20th-highest-rated recruit has an average rating of .925 and is the 180th player per 247's composite. Compare that to our state, where our 20th rated recruit barely cracks the top 1000 per the composite. Combine this insane talent discrepancy with the fact that they are the only major program in the state (except GT...I guess) and it's truly a wonder that they have ever been bad.

I know Clemson is in SC, but they basically have the same access to Georgia HS talent as UGA does. Kind of like how OSU can poach the state of Michigan, and Michigan/MSU/PSU/ND can poach the state of Ohio. Now obviously the in-state college has an advantage (exhibit A: This years haul for Michigan in Michigan, and Ohio State in Ohio).

I have never understood the Georgia draw. They never and I mean never win any big games and are overrated year after year. They get these great recruiting classes and just blow it time and time again. Besides cash, I wonder what they sell these guys on? I guarantee I'd probably burst out laughing if Kirby Smart interviewed me and started feeding me bullshit about what they are going to be and this and that.

Lest we forget, Clemson challenged late for Rashan Gary last year. What goes around comes around. Has an actual committment to Bama stopped M from challenging for Najee Harris? Nooope. It's Crootin', Yo!

I can't get over the fact that Collins would still want to take visits. He's had 2 years to think about where he wants to go.

Have to be promising these guys something. Georgia is an average football team at best. Don't see how these guys are going there. Have a better chance at a championship at Michigan. The degree hold its own weight regardless. They get all these good recruits yet always suck.

recruiting "more aggressively" under Smart than the previous coach - the results speak for themselves. Whether this means dirtier tactics is anyone's guess. However the fact their president made up the sleazy claim that their B-school was better than Ross sort of points toward the path they are taking. As far as Collins goes, I'll start worrying when Sam Webb tells me to start worrying. Until then, I'm not worrying.

I would very much like to hear his justification for that claim - got a link?

Hmm, finish 8-5 but recruit like gangbusters? Sounds alot like Ole Miss in years past, doesn't it?

In all truth, Georgia should be a top 5 recruiting program every year.
They have it all: Great college town, tradition, talent rich state with little in-state competition, talent-rich surrounding area within driving distance, good weather, proximity to a great city, and they play in the glamour conference in college football.
They are Michigan in a better talent state with better weather. What's not to like?
They are actually one of the most under-performing programs of all time given their natural advantages. A new coach could easily change that.
And given the lax recruiting oversight of the SEC, he can goose the process a little and get there quickly.
I'm actually surprised Georgia hasn't made this kind of noise much sooner.

From a 5-star football recruit's perspective, they indeed are.
Put away your blind homer glasses.
January 5th, 2017 at 7:38 PM ^
Indeed they are. Their history isn't on par with ours, but most people still consider Georgia to be a traditional Blue Blood powerhouse football program, pretty much in the same regards as Michigan.

a southern school with a new coach if more-than-likely cheating until proven otherwise. I agree as to kids making decisions not in agreement with that which we would have them make, but that group of SEC schools sans Vandy have more than earned their reputations for being the cheatingest motherfuckers known to mankind. And every apple that has fallen off that Saban tree is not immune to repeating, as much as possible, every bit of rules bending allowed them. We've seen it with Dantonio right here in the same fucking state, getting kids out of jail on the weekend when they should be serving weekends in order to do their school work. So regardless of how pissed you might be I say they be cheating until someone proves to me they not be cheating.
