Hell of a season

Submitted by GoBlueBill on

I know, the season didnt end up the way we all wanted it to. But we are so  much better off now than under Hoke and Rich Rod .

We lost 3 games by a total of 5 points .

Look at the whole season , dont just look at the last part .

Dont complain and cry because we didnt win every game .

I consider this season a  success and I hope it is leading to better things .

I hope everyone enjoys the off season for Football and I'll see you all next Fall .

Defense is there I think. Offense is still 1-2 seasons away. Like others have mentioned, is Drevno cutting it?

listen this OL he inherited was not great and Drevno made them way better than decent. We need to recruit much bigger, faster OL prospects and then coach'em up. Unfortunately, that is a multi-year rebuild project at the OL position.

We could've lost those three games by three points and the result is still the same.

We lost three of the last four. We lost to fucking Iowa. We lost to OSU. Again. For the 13th time in 15 tries. This was not a bad season per se, but it sure as hell was not a good one. Another season of zero marquee wins and watching OSU play for another national title.

Disappointing end to a disappointing season.  If Harbaugh wants to earn that $9 million salary he has to start doing better than 10-3.

If Speight is our QB next year we're in big trouble.

Good lord Michigan fans got entitled fast. Maybe Finebaum was right.

Harbaugh took over a program that was just ass for 7 years and immediately got them to 10 wins twice with the previous regimes players. What do you think will happen when several of his recruiting classes start coming through? Some of you guys are unbelievable

ever.  And now it's just plain dispiriting.

Sure, I get the arguments about how close M was in the 3 losses, but a better team doesn't let Iowa or OSU get close. M had every chance to blow Iowa out early and failed.  OSU could have easily been a 2 or 3 TD victory.

I have no idea what to think about this game.  Florida State appeared to have more team speed and better athletes.  The O line went from terrible in the first half to not good in the second. The best part about the O line was the defense getting FSU off the field quickly to tire FSU's DL out at the end.  But the D gave up way too many big plays -- and they folded at the end of the game in each of the 3 losses.

Not sure how much to pin this on the coaches, how much on the individual players, and how much on just not being good/talented enough.  Michigan's margin for error was just too thin against better teams or when facing adversity -- and they made too many errors.

Got his ass kicked by Mountain West rep Utah in the Sugar Bowl. Anyone who thought Michigan was going to have all their problems solved by year 2 of Harbaugh's tenure hasn't actually considered how long it took some of the big guys like Saban, Dabo, or even Jimbo to get their programs as good as the are

Saban won it all in year 3, Jimbo in year 4. It took Dabo 6-8 years to finally shake off "Clemsoning". Harbaugh will get to the CFP soon.

Some of you are so angry.  The lack of even an average OL couldn't be papered over anymore (and no real playmakers at WR or RB), even with this defense.  The fact that M still Almost made the playoff and Almost won the Orange Bowl is fantastic.

The loss was a bummer.  But they fought like hell.  I'm very excited for where this program is headed, can't wait for spring ball.

8-0 in games decided by more than 10 points, 1-3 in games decided by 7 or less and 0-3 in games decided by 1 or in OT. Playing with an injured qb in two of the losses. Playing without one of the top 5 players in the country in the 3rd (and missing a top 30 player for most of it). Give me Doc Brown, Harbaugh, a competent OL, and a healthy qb and we'll win championships.

I just want to know when we can have some of the obnoxious good luck that OSU always has. It was a fun season but ultimately disappointing. I'm excited for 2018 and 2019 and maybe 2017 will be a pleasant surprise, but I'm not counting on it.

When Michigan finally gets a really good o-line.

3 flukey losses by a total of 5 points.  Lead in all three losses in the last 40 seconds.

Speight not playing his best game?  Bad officiating at OSU?  Weird FSU kick off return with an easy missed tackle and and FSU guy who could not decide whether to run or take a knee?

None of that 'bad luck' would be a factor if the o-line were good enough to generate even an o.k. running game against good defenses.

Get the o-line fixed and bad officiating, QB on an off day, arguably poor play selection, weird fluke plays, etc., all becomes irrelevant.

Go Blue! Adversity builds character for the future. 5 points from perfection. Love the heart of the comeback. But we need some serious rebuilding next year ... OL, WR, DB ... big shoes to fill.

It was a great season.  The team was literally 3 plays from perfect.  The O did enough in 2 games, but not at the right times.  Three losses - by 5, FIVE, points.  That's as unlucky as it gets.

The O has been a two-year OL hodgepodge that has managed to make things happen.  Unfortunately, we're probably another year away from the OL machine Harbaugh left behind at Stanford.

The D could have won all three games with a stop (actually did in one of them).  And yet, FIVE POINTS.

Regardless, M is relevant again.  We're nobody's pushover anymore.  Nobody can say that wasn't the case less than two years ago.  The culture has changed.  The players improve every week.  And to say 'this was the year' is to say you only want to have a shot at a National title once every few years.  This O was not National title caliber, especially with this OL, God love 'em.

Better Michigan teams have come up this short or worse (1994, 2007, 1999).  I expect Harbaugh to build what's happening in Columbus and Tuscaloosa.  And it's clearly coming.

I know they came very close, with the three losses coming by only a total of five points, but I don't think this was ever a championship caliber team. The defense was good enough, but the offense clearly wasn't. QB is obviously the most important position, and I think Speight has firmly established that he just doesn't have what it takes to be a championship caliber quarterback. The O-line was very average, and the backs and receivers were above average, at best. With the possible exception of Evans, they didn't have a consistent big play threat. Not good enough. Given all of this, I think they played right to the edge of their abilities, which is a testament to their hearts and good coaching. This wasn't the year, and I don't think it was ever going to be. Nevertheless, they battled with very talented OSU and FSU teams right to the heart-breaking ends of those games. They could have folded tonight. They did the opposite. That's admirable. The end of the season was disappointing, but shouldn't be demoralizing. I'm confident that between Peters and McCaffrey, they're going to find the kind of QB championship team needs. With better quarterback play and guys like Peoples-Jones, they're going to become more of a big play threat on offense. As we all know and should keep in mind, this will be only Harbaugh's second full recruiting class. The future is bright.

How many Alabama QBs are really game changers?  They're game managers.  Because the OL is all future NFL starters.  Once we get there on the OL - and we'll get there - the Speights will flourish, with a running game that further takes pressure off the passing game.

Jury still out on Speight.  He missed some throws in all three losses.  But he also showed some impressive stuff all year.  He does need to improve before next Fall.  He probably will.

But the 0-line could not maintain the pocket yesterday.  Or generate any kind of holes for the running game.

A decent running game and a decent pocket make QBs look a lot better.

Let's be honest..this is Al Borges play calling with an excellent qb coach. Our play calling takes too long to adjust. We get pressure from the lbs, quick slants and drags. We get 4 man pressure up front, trap and counter. We took 1 fucking shot down field?!? We didn't look deep over the middle til the 4th?!? Harbaugh is a great coach and great qb coach but him/Drevno are extremely mediocre play callers.

Success is accomplishing what you set out to do. I promise you no one on that team set out to win 10 games and beat msu. You can't lose to Ohio state, fail to win the conference, fail to make the playoff, lose the bowl game and say this season was a success.

Harbaugh '15-16: 20-6, 1 New Years Day bowl win (citrus), one BCS/NY6 loss, 0-2 vs OSU, 1-1 vs MSU.

Hoke '11-12: 19-7, 1 New Years Day bowl loss (outback), one BCS win, 1-1 vs OSU, 1-1 vs MSU.

The future is undoubtedly brighter with Harbaugh but damn. That's a couple of pretty similar starts.

That kickoff return by FSU late will haunt me for the rest of my life. He double pumps in the end zone, starts, stops, starts up again....then literally runs straight upfield and doesn't make a single move, Jordan Glasgow misses a easy tackle attempt. He bounces right off him. He then runs past too slow would-be tacklers all the way to FSU's 35 yard line.

Unbelievable.

Go fuck yourself, troll. 9-0 and we lose the last 3 of 4. Do 1 thing in each game and win, but nope, Michigan always did exactly what they had to in order to lose most heartbreaking way. Just cover one kick. Just punt one ball away. Just stop one third down. Just get one first down. What a fucking joke.

A fine season! First back-to-back 10-win seasons since 02-03! Sad to close it out with a loss, but fighting back down two scores and two All-Americans to take the lead makes me a proud fan!

Should be a step back next year, but the future is bright. Rest assured, this will not be Harbaugh's best team, nor his best season.

Oh, and all you whiney losers give me the lulz. Enjoy it for what it is!
