OL recruiting getting interesting

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
There's some slight buzz that Aaron Banks may commit to us tomorrow. He is a top 200 player so that's a good thing, but it would make things interesting. He would be #5, we consider Ruiz and Wilson to be virtual locks which would take the class to 7 OL, most of them tackles. Then consider Filiaga is announcing next month (and also many of his recent Twitter follows are UM players) and that's a lot of O linemen. I know we are still recruiting Slaton hard as well but we will not have room for all of these guys. Wonder if there will be any late shuffling with someone who drops.

I realize this may not be totally correct but it seems that the vast majority of our problems since 2007 have been centered around our poor offensive line play. That and the inability to defend spread offenses. So I am happy to take plethora of good OL's

You're missing a rimington award winner and another top 15 draft pick. Rich rod had good lines, really started with hoke. Recruits didn't match the stars next to their names

It'll be interesting to see if big Mike stays on the O-Line depending on this recruiting class. I think it was mentioned before he has a higher ceiling on the O-Line, it will be nice to use him both ways as needed tho too

I'm honestly expecting a Herbert flip at this point and Slaton only gets back in the picture if he can get his test scores up.  Its obviously doable but worrying about him before he takes an ov doesn't seem worth it so I thin we have room.  The real question is from where on the current roster these extra 6-7 spots are coming from.

I'm all for getting a ton of OL recruits. When's the last time we had a great line? Even that one recruiting class we thought would save us has been off (Dawson, Kugler, Bosch, Fox, LLT, Samuelson...oi it's a little depressing to see how bad that class turned out). Get as many as you can

i agree OL may be the toughest though its hard to evalute all positions when projecting 16-18 year olds several years down the line.  OL is also one of the more mentally challenging positions, plus they must all work in sync which makes it even more difficult.  all reasons why OL coaches are so vital.  as is finding guys with the right mix of athleticism and mental acuity to develop

I don't think I really see a problem here. What can't happen is what happened last year suffering big decommits at DT and OT weeks before signing day and having no replacements. That can't happen so take who wants to commit and keep recruiting.

Ruiz at C and Brederson and Big Mike at G will be rock solid (hopefully)

plus even our 247 3-star OL are 4-star on some sites - and I think both were lauded for their ability to play multiple positions, which Harbaugh likes

If we get Banks, it will speed up some of the time lines of other big men. That and it may cause some other guys to look around. Definitely will be nice to have a few maulers on the line again.
