I think he's saying the best bowl Tenn can expect is the Citrus Bowl.
December 6th, 2016 at 4:49 PM ^
It's an old Steve Spurrier line that he would use to dig at Tennessee, back in the days when Florida owned them.
I mean, that period in the 90s when Florida owned them. Because, this year excepted, they basically still do.
December 6th, 2016 at 5:21 PM ^
Spurrier used to say "You can't spell Citrus with out UT."
The OP has reversed the logic. A mistake? Or an update since you can spell Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl without a "T".

I was on my phone and meant to type 'without'. :(
That's like telling a joke and forgetting the second half of the punchline and saying "well, nevermind, but trust me it was hilarious."

College football is a less-funny more PC place without Spurrier. I would love to see him on Gameday.
December 6th, 2016 at 4:49 PM ^
the joke Florida fans would make about UT when it seemed like the Vols were a perennial fixture in the Citrus Bowl while UF would be in the Orange/Sugar/Fiesta bowl.
December 6th, 2016 at 8:32 PM ^
The Citrus was the runner-up bowl. Tennessee went to the Citrus because they had lost to Florida. For example, when Peyton Manning announced he was returning for his senior year, Spurrier said. "I know why Peyton came back for his senior year. He wanted to be a three-time star of the Citrus Bowl."
Tennessee lost to Florida but still went to the Orange Bowl. Florida went to the Citrus. But it was still a damn funny line.

The funny thing about a Michigan fan making this joke is that the only time we ever played Tennessee was in the Citrus Bowl, when they absolutely waxed us. Casey Clausen had himself a day, as did Jason Witten.

1998 Syracuse was bad. My first home game as a student.

My boss at the time (in Ann Arbor) was a Syracuse alum. I talked so much trash and he wasn't even a big football fan. Little did I know that they had Donovan McNabb,

It was a frustrating game to watch with my grandpa, a big Tennessee fan who didn't much care for his grandson's feelings that day.
December 6th, 2016 at 5:31 PM ^
The first game in my memory along those lines was the 1991 Florida State game, which we ended up losing 51-31.
December 6th, 2016 at 5:50 PM ^
It used to make me angry until I realized we went there just as often as we went to the Rose Bowl under him. To figure out why Sparty found that funny is to understand Sparty logic I guess. We went to the second best bowl game as often as we went to the best one. Real burn there.
December 6th, 2016 at 6:09 PM ^
Spartans are martyrs okay? They don't care if the joke also burns them, they will kill themselves just to get inside a Wolverine's head. It's hard to fight them because it's a deeply ingrained, ideological war.
December 6th, 2016 at 7:05 PM ^
That was from Drew Sharp.

That was a good team, though. They were #2 in the BCS standings until they lost the SEC championship game to one of Saban's early LSU teams.
Donte Stallworth killed us, too.

Thought Bama was actually the leader here. OSU was late to recruit him.

#1 in the ESPN rankings, #4 in 247's own rankings, but #97 in Rivals.
Rivals is such a joke that they hold it against players if they don't go to their own camps. Ridiculous.
December 6th, 2016 at 5:39 PM ^
A lot of OSU fans thought he would pick them since they're in the playoffs.

Tennessee is going nowhere with Butch Jones so glad he went there especially over OSU or Bama.
