We get Hosed by Big 10 Officiating in every big game

Submitted by Rdog on

MGoBlog estimated penalties game MSU 21 point equivalents last year.  This year's OSU game OSU was penalized for 6 yards on 2 penalties.   There was a bad PI called on a on-catchable ball in addition to the bad Barret spot and about 5 other bad calls.

Should Michigan consider leaving the Big 10?

What does Michigan need to do in order to get fair officiating?

is common.  Happens every week.  But this was way worse than normal questionable calls we see every week.

It cost Michigan the game.  No doubt about it.

The no PI call when Grant Perry was cleary held late in the game was the worst non-call of the game.  The no PI call in OT was also terrible.  The spot on 4th down in OT was wrong.

Bitter about it.

What will happen?  Michigan AD will send in the bad calls and non-calls to the Big Ten office.  And the Big Ten office will do what it always does--nothing.

The game should have been decided on the Barrett stop. From what I saw, he was stopped short.  That was that.  But oh no...refs gave him a favorable spot.  No measurement, no serious attempt to review the play.

College football at this level is a big business.  Someone decided they didn't want to end the game on that play.

Oh, come on. I know we're all hurt over the outcome of the game, but Michigan had plenty of mistakes that cost them the game. Such as Speight being responsible for three turnovers. Let's not be this fanbase.

Even though we have treee turn overs, we still pretty much have more chances to win the game than buckeyes if the ref didn't screw us over.

If the ref want to scew us over, they can do a lot more even though we don't turn the ball over. They can call us holding, call us PI etc.

the turnovers has nothing to do with officiating and the officiating has a lot of things to do with the outcome of the game.

...complaining about officiating 15 years ago before it was cool.

Sad to say, the refs will never be held accountable for what people see as a lopsided performance.

All Michigan can do in the future is play as clean and hard as possible so there is nothing for the refs to call.

we live and die by a game that is often decided by arbitrary calls made by guys who are below average at their jobs. we also live on a fucking speck of dust.

throw a pick six, fumble the ball on the goalling, and throw another INT to a wide open OSU defender.   Speight sucked today so stop crying about the refs.

""That's a penalty? [The official said], 'Well, it is in basketball.' Well, this isn't basketball. He told me that he officiates basketball. It would have been a technical in basketball."

I mean seriously. They had a basketball ref out there officiating this game. What in all of the world of fucks is a basketball ref doing officiating a football game?

Tell me part of the original post is just mockery of RCMB or some other crap?  We had to beat ourselves, OSU and the Ref's.  Pretty sure the only 2 we should have to worry about are the Refs and OSU.

Officiating in big games. We could have and should have put this way. However, in the end the players did not decide this game. This is a problem that I'm sure no one will address.

Yep, that alone should be considered by the CFP when considering who is worthy to be in the playoffs. We won this game. Period. We just couldn't beat the refs who allowed OSU to hold, interfere, and even gave extra inches on ball placement. No team can overcome that

While it is true that Michigan made some bad mistakes, OSU looked like a corn-studded, mucus-encrusted turd up until the very end. Michigan clearly looked like the superior team today and should have won this game.

Refs aren't impervious to mistakes, but what we saw today was an entirely different level of bad. The fact of the matter is, Michigan played well enough to end up with the situation at the very end (through several other egregious calls nonetheless) and got screwed. They stopped JT Barrett from crossing the 1st-down marker on 4th down in 2nd OT with the lead, and despite doing exactly what they were supposed to do to win the game, they did not win the game.

This game felt like WWE with helmets and pads. I hate saying that, because it was very real to the kids who went out their and busted their asses for the university and all of its fans, but it is what it is. Disgusting.

Every game has some bad calls.  Some are gargantually bad; some are game-changing or game-deciding.  But, it's been a while since I saw a crew so swallow their whistles for the home team for an entire game.  That game, that result -- with one of the top defenses in the country -- does hot result in two penalties for six fucking yards.

And yes, I get home field advantage.  You are going to get some calls on the margin.  But this was all day from the opening whistle.

Great coaching and great athletic perfomrance requires at least competient officiating.  And fair officiating.  If these asshats are too intimidated to do their job in the Shoe, let them officiate on Friday nights, or in the fucking MAC.

I'm fine wiht Harbaugh calling out the officials.   Accountability starts with truth-telling.

It's in our pedigree. It's everywhere from the Phantom Touchdown to Denny Franklin's broken arm, to FGs called no good, all the way to Trey Burke's Phantom Phoul...

It happens to us a lot. M always has to beat officiating. Which is why we become champions only when we eliminate on-the-field mistakes while carrying a massive chip on our shoulders.

We've got the right guy driving the bus now. You'd have to tear the steering wheel from his cold, dead hands. And the refs will always hate him. The B1G home office will always hate him. And they will always love people like Urban and Dantonio and anyone else who wins that is not us.

We're not leaving the damn conference.

Let's accept it and move on.

Steel in the spine.

The Rose Bowl awaits.

We're Michigan.  While we haven't been back until recently, we have literal decades of hatred and bias against us.  It is never going to go away. It is what it is. We will always have to deal with officiating in ways other programs do not.

Yes Speight made some bad plays.  But the Defense stood TALL.  MADE THE BIG STOP ON 4TH DOWN IN DOUBLE OVERTIME.  To have these assclown refs rip that away.  It's shocking.  And nothing we can freaking do about it.  These guys worked too hard to have it taken away by incompetence and/or flat out cheating.  It's a crime.

This thread is heee-larious!!!! Don't sound so stupid.... -Should Michigan leave the Big 10? There's your arrogance and stupidity on display. Go join a conference where you can be a champion.... -Refs don't like Harbaugh? Who does? He's an eccentric kook...truth. -Conspiracy? The conspiracy is Michigan's schedule where they don't have to play to away games in a row nor do you play a team that had a bye week before playing you. And you barely had to leave your own state. Ohio State had to play at Wisconsin after Wisconsin had a bye week and at Penn State after they had a bye week. Both night games. Let's talk conspiracy, yes! - "Too many games in the past two years with officials going out of their way to let her bowl no his place."??? Note to Michigan fans, Theis statement's very premise displays the arrogance that Harbaugh and michigan fans have:..note to fans, he IS below the officials not above. Arrogant idiots. -great see at least a few of you acknowledging that your senior quarterback threw two interceptions, one of them a pick six, and fumbled on the half yard line. - The absolute most absurd thing about this entire thread and Jim Harbaugh's press conference is that no credit nor acknowledgment was given to the opponent. We have the greatest rivalry. Michigan fans are so arrogant consistently dating back decades and decades. Sorry. It's the truth. Show some class and sportsmanship. Harbaugh tossing papers and throwing headset is so childish and immature. He's a drama queen! -some of you see reality and don't like the whining either. Good for you. -look, Michigan has 18 seniors in starting lineup ...Osu has one, freakin' one! And look at the two deep. Lots of juniors and seniors for Michigan. Loads of freshman and sophomores. The Game is at home next year but probabaky won't matter. Looks like OSU will own for another 2-3 years.... -stop the arrogance and the whining.... -

I don't have the patience nor the crayons the explain this completely to you, so I'll keep it brief.

Where to even begin?...

Not to be that guy, but I love the fact that this is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. Some of us may be arrogant, but at least we have the capability of communicating past an eighth grade level. Also, claiming arrogance on our part but coming onto our blog the same day as you beat us, with a name like sore loser, to call us names and tell us how much better you are and how you will win the next 2-3 years without seeing those teams on the field is just classic. Irony might be too big of a word for you, but do yourself a favor and look it up for us. Google should work for that. Also, Speight is a Sophomore, not a senior. A pretty huge mistake to someone who claims to have deep knowledge regarding the current and future state of our roster, and the ability to predict our record. But I digress (shoot, probably also too big for you. Once again, Google is your friend).

In the end, I'll leave you with your own advice: Don't sound so stupid. Also, do us all a favor and go make toast in your bathtub.

..who saw Wormley being TACKLED on that 4th down play while making the tackle on JT? If that play is in open space, it's normally a yellow....

Secondly, how about the block in the back on Stribling during Samuel's 3rd down miracle run? Those are OBVIOUS CALLS - I just don't get it..

I understand if the officials don't want to "inject themselves into the game" but then why throw a flag for pass interference or unsportsmanlike on Harbaugh.

Just seems like they wanted to let the two teams battle and play it out on the field but handcuffed one of them...

my two cents.

p.s. And Harbaugh has every right to complain about it - it's his job to defend his 18-22 year olds.

If you're going to talk shit, at least get it right.

Michigan did the thing it had to do in order to win the game, and yet they were not granted the outcome that should have resulted from doing said thing. That's really all there is to it. You don't stop the opponent on 4th down in double-OT with the lead and expect to lose the game, just like you don't push out a shit and expect it to come out your nose. Complete robbery.

All my posts have contained poop references thus far, but it seems fitting considering today's events.

I dont think the players will blame the refs, they know thay could have made plays to win the game.  I seriously wonder how many Michigan fans ever played the damn game.  THe players will tell you it was right there for the taking but missed blocks, passes and tackles decided the game.
