Chris Evans Appreciation Thread

Submitted by WSU to Blue on

Kinda random, but I feel like it's necessary to give a shoutout to Chris Evans, who's our best running back (statistically) through 7 weeks.  After taking a look, our RB numbers are as follows:

Evans: 48 attempts, 400 yards, 3TDs, 8.3avg; 4 receptions, 28 yards, 0TDs, 7.0avg

Higdon: 35 attempts, 259 yards, 5TDs, 7.4avg; No receiving stats

Smith: 61 attempts, 336 yards, 2TDs, 5.5avg; 10 receptions, 21 yards, 0TDs, 2.1avg

Isaac:  53 attempts, 291 yards, 4TDs (career high), 5.5avg; 1 reception, 21 yards, 0TDs, 21.0avg

The good thing is all of our RB numbers are looking pretty healthy, but thus far Evans has been able to churn out more production with less touches.  As a true freshman he's exceeded my expectations personally, and it's worth noting that we haven't even scratched the surface with what he can do as a receiver.  I expect his skills to be in full bloom entering The Game.  It's good to know we're in good good hands when it comes to coaching and player personnel now, and in the future.  Here's to continuing our road to the playoffs! (Knock on wood)

Would redshirt this year given all the guys in front of him. But 400 yards later and only halfway thru the season, I pretty anazed. As I've said on this blog previously, I am SO thankful he's on Michugan and not Indiana.

I never liked Smith, or at least never thought he should be leading the team in carries, but i see a lot of potential in Evans to have a career like the great RBs of the past

I like Smith a lot, but he needs a bit of space to get up to speed.  Once that happens, people die.  I appreciate all of our backs this year, but the heavy rotation has kept Smith from finding a rythym, IMO.  Isaac has improved a lot.

All of our running backs are studs and bring something different to the table.  As we go into the second half of the season, our running backs appear fresh and have been taking care of the football.  Coach Wheatley deserves a lot of credit.

Who the fuck downvotes this? Also, who the fuck argues where this guy gets his stats from. Hilarious.

Someone earlier was way old school comparing Evans to Gayle Sayers.

I'm going to hope he developes into a Marcus Allen if you remember him with the Raiders.  All around runner(in and outside), but a huge weapon catching the ball out of the backfield.

if not, potentially, the best, or one of the best, in the history of football, college or pro. I mean, damn, Smith, Isaac, Evans, Higdon, Hill, and Peppers? Are you fuckin' kiddin' me? Plus Bobby Henderson?

I don't think I've ever seen a backfield in my almost 50 years of football watching (used to play, also) that brings so much diversity of styles and talents. Smith is smashmouth, Ty is upright style and finesse, Chris and Karan are smart, open eyed, burners, Khalid is unstoppable, Jabrill is unpredictable, Bobby Henderson is an unknown quantity. I've never seen anything like it.

There was a season, years ago, I recall a diversity in our backfield similar to this one. I recall Tony Boles, Leroy Hoard, Jon Vaugnh and Ricky Powers all contributing for bits of two seasons. Boles was the antelope, Vaunghn the sprinter, Hoard the bowling ball and Powers a combo back. Bo always seemed to have a stable where he could replace his starter, but I can't recall another period during his tenure where he featured so many different backs for a couple year period.

With that said and what we have coming in next season, losing only two from this year (counting Drake), It's just going to add more competition imo. But because this is about Evans, I will add he's been refreshing. He's just going to get better and better.
